Beautiful. I love Ian Bostridge. Although I have one thing to say about him that's not good. She looks like she has won on a lottery or something. He..he could as well sing about "Yea, well, I went to the supermarket today, yeah, bought some fruits and vegetables." And one hand in the pocket. Come on Bostridge, be happy for petes sake!=DDDD
You are a talented singer Mr Bostridge, but do take your hands out of your pockets when you sing - don't know what music college taught that mannerism.
am i the only one who things this tenor is terrible? there is no complement to the piece, he's singing to the ground and in my estimation slightly too self-involved to to be a really good duet partner. I also somehow believe that even as a soloist he wouldnt do so well as his voice is everything but delightful.
but that might just be me. the piece was a mistake.
Much as I love Handel and admire Bostridge, this is, there’s no denying, extremely silly. One expects the Pythons to mince on stage any moment. Do you think Handel was happy when he wrote this? I mean, the lyrics aren’t exactly Sondheim, are they? : )
Ya gotta love the blond curly-headed female bass player! Speaking of hair, who does Bostridge's?? He always looks ridiculous ( and underfed).
@Paules8460 I doubt if anyone's going to be singing Sondheim's cutsie-pie lyrics 300 years from now. Mozart thought Handel's lyrics were good enough to use himself.
and something tells me your look leans toward the overfed and undereducated ... just a guess
@maggregoro warum findest du, dass bostridge hässlich ist? er ist einer der besten Tenöre die es gibt. da kommt es selbst wenn es so ist auf schönheit nicht an.
"Happy We"?? "Happy She", might be a more accurate title. Perhaps She is happy because she does not have to sing next to him. The soprano seems truly happy and sings quite well overall. The tenor, wow, where exactly is his left hand...is his hand in his pocket? Hmm...Is that his "happy place" ?
He is so loud! Too loud together with the sopran! He is a pretty bad actor too: he looks always at the floor and opens his mouth like a yawning lion, specially the left side... it doesn't look so happy, he looks more worried that high tones and coloraturas come LOL
Listen to the Tom Hobbs/Dunedin Consort version on here - it makes this sound quite 'un-together' and the blend is rarely there! It's as if a policy of 'everyone for themselves' has been applied.
She's wonderful, but what horrible singing posture he has! It's a wonder he can sing at all all crumpled up like that, singing out of the corner of his mouth with his hand in his pocket.
I love him !

there's not really a 'we' in this performance, kate is doing all the social work!

I was also wondering why he had his hand in his pocket... Maybe some singers are more comfortable recording than performing on big stages?

I know; it's all I can do to stop from laughing! But in spite of that, he is still a phenomenal singer.
