  • Cant wait to see the taste test for this one. I'm looking at trying a partial extract brew soon too!

  • I always dry pitch my yeast too, no problems so far.

  • Craig! you need a bigger pot! Every once in a while I give youtube a break and your videos are one of the few I can come back and watch all those I've missed as well as watching some old vids again. Thanks Craig!

  • oh don't you hate when you forget to heat the extract up! It really gives the arms a workout! Great info. Why no hop bag?

    Cheers Prost Skaal

  • Craig, I've loved your videos for a ages now mate, one thing, I personally like it better when you talk when you are doing your brew videos rather than doing a voice over. I guess you do the voice over so that you dont make so many bloopers?

  • Hey great video Craig,I noticed you had some slight issue with focusing at one point and assuming you where using your Canon camera for this I've noticed with my Canon Vixia when you want bring something in close and get it to focus you have to pretty much fill the frame with your subject and it does work much better. You might have already known this but I thought I'd throw it at ya anyway,Cheers!

  • Gah! I was literally standing in the brew store here looking at that kit (on special) vs the brewer's best whiskey barrel stout and my room mate and I decided on the stout. Now I wish I had picked up this holiday ale kit before they are all gone because it looks like a cool kit.

  • i never get tired of that intro tune

  • what does your wife think about all this brewing? just curious as to how you compare to me and my gf lol

  • @HokieHomeBrew She pays no attention to it. If I did an all grain batch every week, I'm sure it might be somewhat different tho.

  • I do find that with partial boils that the hop flavours get overpowered by the malts. I'd be tempted to split all the ingredients in two and boil twice. Although that does take much longer.

  • Partial mash brewing is great, you get some excellent results without the need for going all grain,

  • I bet it smelled great!! i remember my first airlock blowout, nothing like hearing a POP and SMACK of an air lock blasting out of a glass carboy at 3 am and hitting the ceiling, and having to lift a heavy carboy into the sink. good thing I have hardwood floors, Now I always use a tube for the first few days.

  • Hello Craig great easy home brew vid. Suggestion. When I add my hops I usually use a muslim bag. Thye do have hop balls where you can use while adding your hop additions. Then you dont have to strain the wort or if you do strain the wort while pouring th wort into the fermenter , it will not plug up your strainer. Also, what ever happened to that Octane IPA kit with the oak chips I gave you?. I thought you were going to make a video on that Midwest brew kit? Cheers.....Paul from Minneapolis.

  • OMG, that's that Nottingham. It cakes. It always cakes, that stuff. LOL. Good job Craig.

  • That beer looks great. We just started brewing wheat beer along with hard apple cider. It's bubbling away, hope that it turns out alright. Your videos have been extremely informative!

  • i had the same problem with the 1820 IPA partial I did......turning it down slightly worked for me and was still at 100C.... my video should be posted on Weds =]

  • I'm relatively new to brewing. What doe 'rehydrating the yeast' mean? This beer kit looks awesome by the way.

  • Craig,

Have you ever tried Fermcap S? I don't know if you have it available but it virtually eliminates the hot break.

  • Thank you for this video, i just made my first extract kit last week and I learned a bit from our process.

  • i didn't read all the comments but i think with the strainer you should have emptied it out a fe w times, i think that would have made it easier and faster

  • Oh I love your vids craig... I'm in the philippines right now... Too bad I can't find any score here that sells materials for home brewing, and beer kits. :( But someday I'm looking forward to do my first home brew. :)

  • Craig, excellent video quality. Your new camera works well. This looks like a nice kit. I'm looking forward to hearing how it turns out. Cheers my friend!

  • I use a 5 gallon paint strainer bag in my bucket to pour the wort into the fermenter. Just lift it out out and clean for future use.

  • do you have a email for questions?

  • i realy wish this was my first brew kit. wowza

  • Zen and art of brewing.

  • Great vid Craig. Good quality too.

  • Great video! Awesome camera used in the shooting of this video. Was it your new one? Can't wait to see the model and review of this Camera. Cheers and keep up the Outstanding Work!

  • Nice video, Craig! I too have to move the hops out the way over and over when I filter the wort into my fermenter. I really need to get a paint strainer bag and start doing that for the hope I think.

  • Every time I start to lose interest in homebrewing, all I have to do is watch one of your videos. Cheers!

  • @Carlinistic Same here! Sooooo true!

  • Great job with the shots, edits and commentary, Craig! Keep it up!

  • good one Craig, congrats!

  • Very nice camera quality Craig! Awesome... Cheers

  • wow your glasses are super thick! how much dioptrine?

  • Yay, finally another brewing video. Great job Craig. Now to watch the taste test.

  • thats a hell of alot to go into one 5gallon

  • Hi Craig, Looks good. My Son brewed this kit for His first brew ever and he had no problems. (I've created a Monster) He said the smells in the kitchen and the whole house were "AMAZING". I only wish I could have sampled some of it LOL ! He was very impressed with himself, the kit, and enjoyed the whole process. I've been brewing (Extract kits with the grains) For a year now and I too credit you for inspiring me to do it. Thanks for all you do and share in your videos. Cheers !

  • Craig...I reccomend straining with 5 gallon paint filters. You can get a 2 pack at a paint store for like $6US. They have a elastic band and fit nicely into a 5 gallon bucket. just pour your wort in and then gently pull the bag up and out...if it clogs, just roll the bag side to side...I've been using them since day one....

They are easy to clean out and reuse them over and over....

  • Got impatient and went ahead and bottled my very first 5 gallon batch today. It sat in the fermenter for exactly 1 week and the active fermentation stopped a few days ago. Brewer's best American Cream ale = Wow - just wow.. Thanks craig for inspiring me to start with that one! ... I'll just say this much: I drank 3 beers straight out of the fermenter (Been a couple weeks since I've had ANY brew) -- It tasted better warm and fairly flat than most any store bought macrobrew I've had! ... Yum!

  • Ripper!

  • The quality is amazing man

  • Nice vid craig cheers.. or skål... From oslo norway

  • Great video Craig! Cheers from Italy

  • Cheers Craig, enjoy my friend. I enjoyed this kit a lot it is too bad I finished off the keg during your cast last Friday. Good thing I squirreled some bottles away for a rainy day. Thanks for what you do, I have learned a lot in a short time and still learning every batch. Thanks to everyone int he community that post information about homebrewing on Youtube. I enjoyed watching how an experienced home brewer makes the same kit as me to see if I did everything right. Thanks again Cheers 17!

  • I brewed this Kit back at the end of August 2011 it came out really good ! I still have a case that I'll be saving for a while and see how it conditions.

  • Another great vid, Craig.

Even at 10am, that beer looks tempting LOL

Going to be attempting our first all grain mash this weekend...

Hopefully, we (my friend and I) should end up with a lovely English Bitter at the end :)

Been gathering all the equipment and ingredients since the week before Xmas and we've just finished constucting the Thermos mash tun conversion ready for the mash :)

Should hopefully be videoing the whole days events!

  • At least you didn't burn you hands on those hot cans like you always do. lol

    Cheers!!

  • Hi Craig! Great video and editing! I have question regarding aerating the wort. I see some homebrewers shake the fermenter at different stages of the brewing process and especially before pitching. My question is: Why are you not aerating the wort?

  • @filrhodes

He is aerating the wort to sufficient levels IMHO. Pouring in the wort from above like that oxygenates the wort all the yeast needs. After all , he had a very active fermentation so it must be doing the trick :)

  • @filrhodes I believe aerating besides the usal vigorous stiring is optional. It just reduces the lag time from when you pitch the yeast to when fermentation starts by giving the yeast a suitable high O2 starting environment. Once the yeast get going, they don't like oxygen too much once they start producing that lovely alcohol and CO2.

  • I have one small suggestion, mix the grains in a bowl before putting them in the grain bag.

  • yummy...you make this all look so easy

  • Great video! Makes me want to pick up this holiday ale kit! ... My first batch ever (which is still in the fermenter - been a week now, few days since last bubbles) was the Brewer's Best American Cream that you seemed to enjoy so much! ... Wow, I know what you're talking about with the smell coming from the fermenter in the first couple days! AMAZING... I imagine with the spices , this Holiday Ale would be even better.

  • Looks like an awesome kit!

  • G'day from Australia.

  • amazing! I want one of those kits!
