This is basically like Jail breaking an iPhone...they do not commie rooted out of the box because Verizon...like Apple...like to control what you can do with your phone. Rooting the phone will allow you to wirelessly tether your phone(for example) to any computer and have 3G connectivity using your phone as the internet source! You can do many more things.

and in my first attempt to root it I succeeded, but then I bricked it by flashing the rom with a faulty image, I may have even cried a little when that happened but i was smart enough to back it all up first, I fixed it looked online some more and found that app I mentioned before. and here I am with a mean ass Droid, multi tasking like a mother. others put in the work, all we have to do is read and give those hard working guys the respect they deserve

actually, there is an easier way to root the droid. go to the android market download an app called sholesmod updater and follow the steps. not only do you root the droid but you can also overclock, flash the rom, change to a better theme, add multi touch and a few other cool stuff all with just one app it wont hurt to get a terminal emulator eather I run better terminal emulator

I've gone to many different sites getting droid_root.zip to droid-superuser.zip and renaming them all to update zip. Nothing has worked yet. There are apps you can download like overclock app and all that you can have a choice to make it where when you reboot your droid it will automatically do this for you so you dont have to hold x and all that again.

if you named the file update.zip your droid will really read it as update.zip.zip it wont say it on the screen when loading, just name it update. this is a problem that comes up when computer wizards try to explain things in a simple manner and they end up messing up with something simple. and the rest of the site just copy and paste

Since Android is a Linux based OS "root" means the same thing that it would on Linux. Think of it as having Administrative Privileges on Windows. So it basically means you have full power over your phone to do anything: i.e. modding, themes, etc.

I just love how these people take the time to create beautiful videos like this and then completely fail to explain the entire process. He says to download the file. Well, after you download it, it comes zipped. If you unzip it, it turns into 6 files. NOW what do you do? Zip it back together into one file and save it to your desktop? If you search the internet for a better explanation, you find that everyone is just as lousy at explaing how to root your phone.
