I have a Fox and it works great on larger placer, not sure how it would work on 100 mesh, that's what got my attention. I would think a blue bowl would be best for that. I'm very impressed with it. One thing though, the jets get clogged from time to time. If you like a sore back keep panning away.
I had bought a Desert Fox and tried it, was not to impressed so I gave it away. Our gold is fine and it just does not work for that, If you gold is chunky which it works real good on then you don't need to wasted your money on the desert fox a good old fashion pan works just as well. In my eyes I wasted my money, I gave it away because I didn't want someone thinking I sold them a peice of junk.
I mostly agree with you. I would rather pan. I'm making a video on panning 400 mesh material soon. The DF will get all the gold it is said to get. It just has very small perimeters that it has to work in. If your water or angle is off just a bit you will start collecting garbage or loosing gold. I have recovered 200 mesh consistently with this machine, but it also means I will have to run it so slow that it could be done as well panned in 1/4 the time. Remember to classify
i have a desert fox wheel.and it get's lot's of gold from where i prospect.down to the finest flour that a pan some times doesn't get.but!i run most of my material through a sluice first,{dirty material plug's up the spray on the wheel}but i have just classified to 20 mesh, found lot's of gold, also i don't throw away my 12 minus material either.just through the wheel.but one thing they do not tell you when you buy a wheel ,is the angle setting for most material.
@rickheft The bottom line with any equipment you use is classification. If you have big stuff knocking around the little gold, the gold gets knocked out. If you want a better recovery average, classify. Once you have that accomplished then you can refine the set-up for your equipment. It's all fun, go git some!!!
i saw another video where a guy separated the black sand from blond/gold using a magnet and a bunch of trays. then used the wheel or pan to seperate the gold from the blond sand. Have you tried that?
as for wheels, there's one of a different brand than this that seems to work better. don't remember the brand so i'm of no help. sorry
The tray guy was me. Removing the magnetics will get you the best chance of recovery. After you have all the cons classified and mags removed, use a pan on +12 and a wheel on -12 to +50 then a blue bowl on -50. Those are the ranges I find most effective. The key though is to classify. If you don't , you will have big rocks bashing around small gold and you will lose quite a bit of it. Classify and remove magnetics and you will get %25 more recovery. Thanks for the comments
ok thank you! I know one of these spiral wheels comes with some sample stuff, and booklets and a video, so I might buy one of these, a blue bucket, a pan and a sluice. Yes it may be a lot to buy, but I plan on making my money back :P So yeah, I'll just test around with lakes/beaches - near river run-offs, rivers creeks, fields, sandy areas and see what gives the most. One more question, what is a good thing to do with the nuggets/'flakes' you find? just sell them like that or make em into bars?
Anything that goes through a #8 screen is ok to melt down or sell as is. Nuggets larger than 1/8th" are for making jewelry . That makes them worth more than spot price on the exchange. You will generally get around 10% less than spot for your fines to be melted down and 20% and as much as 200% more for you nuggets. Just don't sell to the first buyer. You worked hard for them, get what they are worth. If you find gold in quarts rock, leave it alone. They're worth more than just the gold.
hmmm.. I hear that a 'blue bowl' will work better (more at one time) is that true? and I still need answered by anybody what kind of stuff you put in. I know 'concentrate' but dont really know what that is lol. and if you could also please say where to get it to, thanks.
Concentrates are all the material left in the bucket after a clean-up of a highbanker, dredge, drywash, or river sluice. So basically a pick-up load of gold bearing material will concentrate down to a half bucket or so. Where to get them is the good question. Just follow someone with a claim or buy some practice stuff from ebay. The blue bowl and the spiral wheel both have their good and bad points. I have them both and use them both during large clean-ups. My favorite though is the pan.
Got it. Thank you. I saw that I could buy a variable speed model for about 20-30 bucks extra. Like you said, it will just take some practice. Do you think this is more for pickers, or will it go down to flake and flour gold?
I've seen it go down and do a nice job on 200 mesh. I've heard of people bragging about 600 mesh but the amount of 600 mesh it takes to be able to see it, isn't worth the hassle. 200 mesh will take you about 30 minutes to get 5 cents worth of gold. It sure is fun though. The key is to make sure everything is classified. I use 20, 30, 50, 100, and sometimes 200 if I was in a super fine gold area. Have fun with it and make sure you use jetdry so your gold doesn't float away.
Now I have heard you can use Simple Green instead of Jet Dry, and it is biodegradable. Is that true? I love to fish, and if it works the same, I would rather not eat poisoned fish. (Not a tree hugger, lol).
You can use any detergent that does not have hand lotion in it like lanolin etc. The problem would be with the bubbles. Let me know how the bubble factor is.
These are really good. There is one thing you will have to make sure of. You need the ability to slow the rotation. My wheel is a single speed and it runs too fast. If you get one, use some clean material classified to one size. Then count out about 5 pieces of gold and throw it in there. Keep testing the water flow, wheel speed and wheel angle to make sure you get acquainted with it. If you use it right, it's awesome, if you don't its fecal matter. Let me know if you get one. Mike
i dont know why but watching that made me wanna throw up lol

I have a single speed machine. I was thinking of putting a reostat in-line to lower the power and slow it down.
