dude your wrong. surgeonfish dont have poision in their barbs. they can inflict a deep cut however if there full grown. its rabbitfishes with the venomous barbs. just saying.

@Maxdave327 They are definitely different. For example, the lionfish is venomous: the toxins are only in the spines and once you remove them the meat is perfectly edible. The pufferfish is poisonous the meat will kill you.

once i was bitten by a stone fish and i was in such pain that i just wanted my arm(place where i was stung) cut off....i still feel waves of pain today,.. dont EVER TOUCH THOSE THINGS FOR GODS SAKE THEY HURT SO BAD

Well it depends on the species. The broadbarred lionfish, Pterois antennata, is not very dangerous at all (that's probably what stung you). The red lionfish, Pterois volitans, on the other hand, is extremely lethal (this video more refers to it).
