Wow. This about 83? Saw him at CSUSJ and I think it was the same pink jump suit. On Hendrix's birthday so he did an extended solo. I've seen these guys so many times. And just recently at Brixton in Redondo this past June. Phil was loving every minute of it. RIP to a really great guy who didn't punch me in the face when I went to his house uninvited in my early teens. LOL He was so cool. Driving around in his Jag he would never ignore anybody at all. He ALWAYS waved back.
@brandurj It Was an MTV special. May have been a Headbangers Ball. It Was so cool i taped it. Unfortnatly it was on Beta the thing died years ago.The player that is. The tape rotted. God I loved it.
Seen them at the Concord Pavillion on Halloween and New Years ever at least 3 times. Only other shows that I went to on those same dates was Grateful Dead used to play the same days, But for 3 days prior too! BAY AREA BABY!
I was at this show too! I still have my silver mylar guitar pick! Saw them at Day On The Green too! They play out in Chicago at Chicago City Limits all the time. Finally got to meet Dave out there!
I remember seeing these guys play at Monte Vista high school in Danville in the late 70's... I was from San Ramon high in Danville... it was a great show.... I even got to kiss one of the guitar players in the school parking lot..how fun...
i was there... we deceided at the last minute me and a bunch of friends took a yellow cab from Burlingame to the San Francisco Civic auditorium to see the Y&T show Twisted Sister opened....
another great Bill Graham Presents show and seen them @ Day On The Green in 1985 as well i remember well how Yngwie Malmsteen jus blazed his way through Far Beyond The Sun and the Bass solo with Cliff Burton and Metallica some crazy shit just awesome ! Also I saw Y&T at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland they opened for bad company blew Bad Company away.... then the Stone Theater in SF i saw Y&T countless times always seeing their New Years gigs.
In 85 at day on the green it was Scorpions, Ratt, Y&T, poison, Metallica , and Jet Red....later that summer Y&T played at the memorial auditorium in Sacto, Metallica opened for them all year, the 80's rocked and metallica owes a debt to Y&T
I dont know what day on the green you were on in '85 maybe sacto had one ?
I was there and even double checked all the web sites to make sure this was the bill for Day On The Green 1985 Oakland COL... Day On The Green #1: Scorpions, Ratt, Y&T, Metallica, Rising Force, Victory (August 31, 1985)..........poison and jet red LOL sure thing :D
I don't know how you can say these guys we're as good as Aerosmith. I think Aerosmith had some good songs but I think they're over rated. At best these guys should have been more popular then the Scorpians were. Seems bay bands like Montrose and Y&T and many of the east bay bands didn't have the best promoters and management.
Saw them shortly after this with Metallica, Yngwie, Ratt and the scorps in Oakland...great show...Y and T ruled....New Years Eve 85 with Armored Saint and Laaz Rockit in San Jose and NYE 86 in Stockton with POISON Opening...although Leonard Haze was gone by then
it's a bloody shame those great albums fantastic concerts better than Kiss, Queen, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, they ruled the Starwood the Fleetwood they had it all then they put out "Summertime Girls" and all of a sudden they're labeled a "Hair Band"
Dave is a bona fide rock God who possesses incredible guitar skills combined with a voice that eclipses most metal/rock vocalists AND he does them at the same time! Y&T are just the most under rated band in history, they are amazing.
Greatest band of the time out of Hayward Ca I seen them many times and even if they might look a little gay now in the way some were dressed they always fuckin rocked and I agree with the guy who said they blew it when they put out Summertime Girls they just wanted the women I guess
because he isn't good enough to play with ozzy. FACT: You see ozzy had actual real legends like Toni Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, randy rhoads with him.
Lol you think thats true? you think he made half the amount of money in y&t as he would have if he joined ozzy or the amount of recognition? even if that was true(which its not) he would be a dummy for turning down ozzy LOL
I was able to see Y&T during their "In rock we trust"tour WOW it was a small bar and every seat was great! I was also able to get my album signed that night!! Y&T is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE BANDS EVER!!
michaelfowler07, Underrated 'BAND', as well. This particular performance shows how really tight they are/were live. Y&T is my fave. Oh, and I do agree, DM is a superior vocalist on top of being one of the best guitarists 'OF ALL TIME'. IMHO Dave M has more talent than Joe Satriani, Yingwie M, and many others, Sure they can melt brains with guitar, but, more talent shows when you can also write & do the vocals. In the Genra of Hard Rock, & Heavy Metal, few do both exceptionally as well as DM.
i got to see y&t at the astoria2 last saturday and they were utterly brilliant.....dave meniketti must rank as one the most underrated guitarists in the world....anyone agree?
Leonard split twice for different reasons, I don't know if he'll be talking about it because I'd rather hear about the good times, but we'll see after I interview him, watch this space for details of my exclusive. His work with Ian Gillan is also remarkable and will be fully covered in the conversation.
Dave Menketti and Y&T are great too, excellent band always, as mentioned.
Leonard Haze was the John Belushi of Rock. He will always been one of the best single-bass drummers of all time in my book....and Y&T always a Rock bands Rock Band.
Man!!! loved it then and still love it now!!! Y & T fan forever!!!!! great memories with this song and Rescue me!!! I was also in this concert!!!! This band is the grandfather of all the eighties bands!!!!!!!
whatever happened to "Rock"? is he in storage somewhere in Petaluma next to the boxes with all the spandex? would like to have a drinking contest with that Leonard Haze and bullshit about the old days
im 42 yrs old and i close my eyes and just go back in time and remember when i was sitting in my room and the stero CRANKED!! air guitar, air drums.. can i hear an amen
Having seen these guys numerous times in high school in SF in the 80's, and having just seen them this past St. Patrick's Day at The Independent in SF, I can honestly say they haven't missed a beat. The energy they exude in their records and live concerts while they're pushing 50+ years old. A true City band!!
