why destroy a perfectly good hard drive when you can format it fill it with unimportant files then format it again which will make it impossible to see the files you had before because the unimportant files over wrighten them
...And besides, does someone REALLY think the price of the HDD is ANYTHING for the government or just about any business? The security, on the other hand, is priceless.
Nah it's a Western Digital Caviar. One of the very few drives to ever come with a painted black cover. Those Seagates were black too, but only the rubber thing.

For some sensitive data, that's not enough. Even if you overwrite it multiple times, there can still be a little bit of a magnetic signature.
Destroying hard drives with confidential data on them is common practice.

this is paranoya... lol...
There are machines mounting those harddrives... the same machine could dimantel the HDD and extract & replace plates...
And shred the old plats only...

It's not paranoia if you're a government organization dealing with top-secret data, or something like that.

Why even bother destroying hard drives when you have imbeciles like Biden who will go to the press and leak everything out?

Looks like the old Seagate that came with a black rubber suit. Only 10GB or so.
