It should be remembered that the paternal aunt of Shimr, Umm Banin bint Kharam, was the wife of Hazrat Ali (Karramallahu taala wajhah) and whose off-springs were Abbas, Abdullah, Jafar, and Uthman and all the four brothers were accompanying Imam Husain in this encounter. Thus Shimr was the paternal cousin of all the four brothers and also of Imam Husain (radiyallahu anh).

A Shia Killed Sayyiduna Hussain:
To provide a solid proof of this fact (i.e. that Shimr was a Shia), we refer to the esteemed and classical Shia scholar, Al-Qummi. Al-Qummi, author of the famous book Mafaatihul-Jinaan, writes in his book: I say, Shimr was in the forces of Ameer al-Mumineen on the Day of Siffin. (Al-Qummi, Safinatun-Najaat, vol.4, p. 492, Chapter Sheen Followed by Meem).
Shimr lain was not only shia but also real parental nephew of umul banin, wife of ali.

@UsmanAli771 This is absolutely false and a weak argument. With a rational mind I ask you to define the term "shia". Look at the quran for reference, (Quran 37:83), and (Quran 28:15), etc. Basically, the term "shia" is a religious word that represents a devoted "follower" of Ibrahim (pbuh), Moses (pbuh), Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Ahlulbayt (pbut). How could anyone who follows the lineage of Prophet Muhammad kill his grandson? That just contradicts the term and your argument.

To this day, the Shia still commemorate Ashura by doing Matam (self-flagellation). This ritual was passed down the generations by the Al-Tawwabun (the Penitents) showing us that the Shia of today originate from the same Shia of Kufa who betrayed Hussain (رضّى الله عنه). The very reason that the Shia beat themselves is to punish themselves for this betrayal of the Ahlel Bayt.

Owais Al-Qarni (r.a.), a devoted sahaba of the Prophet (pbuh). Upon hearing the news that the Prophet had his teeth broken in the battle of uhud, Hz. Owais pulled one of his own teeth out (because of his love towards the Beloved Prophet). Upon hearing this news of Owais breaking his teeth, Prophet praised his act and praised him

The Shia mourning on Ashura has little do with their love for Hussain (رضّى الله عنه), but rather has more to do with their hatred of the Sunnis. Why else do they not comemmorate the martyrdoms of their other heroes, such as Ali (رضّى الله عنه) or Hamza (رضّى الله عنه)? The truth is that Ali (رضّى الله عنه) was killed by the Khawarij, a group of the Shia! This is why the Shia today do not make a big fuss about the death of Ali since it was a man from their own party who killed him.

@MuhammadAhmad1 What makes your statement and islamic knowledge look absolutely repulsive is the fact that the term "shia". "And most surely Abraham was among the Shia of him (i.e., Noah)" (Quran 37:83). The term means "follower". The shias of today are shias of Ali (as) who was himself (as) a shia of Muhammad (pbuh). So as you can see, we are simply followers of Muhammad (pbuh).
With that said, exactly how can someone refer to himself as a "shia of Ali (as)" and murder their own leader?

We shias perform these rituals to commemorate the sacrifice made by Maula Ali (as) and his progeny so we could avoid hatred, religious incompetence, and ignorance; all three for which you evidently posses. I dare you to bring quranic reference if you truly have credibility in your statements of hate towards "shias"

@akmnawab110 ,The Shia betrayed Ali (رضّى الله عنه), Hasan (رضّى الله عنه), Hussain (رضّى الله عنه), and Zayd ibn Ali ibn Hussain (رضّى الله عنه). The irony is not lost that the Shia claim to be lovers of the Ahlel Bayt and yet historically they have betrayed them and lead to the deaths of Ali (رضّى الله عنه), Hussain (رضّى الله عنه), and Hussain’s grandson (رضّى الله عنه).

The Shia of Kufa outnumbered Yezid’s men 18,000 to 4,000. Actually, the number was greater than 18,000; 18,000 was simply the number of men who had pledged Bayat (oath of allegiance) to protect Hussain. Had they wanted to, the Shia of Kufa could have defeated Yezid’s men and protected Hussain. But instead, they did nothing but watch from afar with cowardice. The Shia of today will eulogize this day and talk about how 71 men fought against 4,000 of Yezid’s troops. Where did the other 18,000 go?
