  • the zvex has internal gain knobs as well. 4 of them. for gain in and out of the octave

  • the guy with that funny voice again he's everywhere

  • I love Icky Thump!

  • ICKY THUMP!!! :D

  • im wondering if GMD knows that he's shooting-out and octave up pedal and an octave down pedal... not the same thing...

  • i think not, because he says the multiplexer is "a cool octave up unit... and octave down"

  • @TacooGrill what would happen if he turned on BOTH at the same time?

  • how do you buy all these pedals?

  • Where's the snakeskin boots???

  • EH=octave down only.

  • The Octave Multiplexer is just octave down

  • Multiplexer - super sweet sounding, wow!

Johnny Ocatve - interesting pedal, ZVex always makes really interesting and different pedals, octaves sounds more subtle

  • ...That's not a Garden-Variety Fender Telecaster, take a look, he has a pickup in the neck position that looks kinda like a Gibson PAF...& then a pretty typical Angled Single Coil pickup in the Bridge Position (like telecaster's mostly do...) & his Doctor-Z amp, is another thing that the Average guitarist wouldn't have either...

  • "Probably the coolest looking pedal I've ever seen"...YEAH, maybe if you were obsessed with the Opening Credits & Intro to the Movie "Grease"

  • jack black playing jack white.what are the odds

  • jonny seems as a REALLY groovy guy

  • i like the octave multiplexer. The only thing is that in the beginning he says its an octave up and octave down unit. It's just an octave down

  • ICKY THUMP!!!!! i love that song. and this guys demos are awesome.

  • The EHX (In my opinion) sounds so much better and gives a much phatter tone! I love it.

  • Hey!!! Where are your snake skin shoes???

  • I like the EHX better although the Z-Vex does have its place....somewhere..just not on my board for 3x's the price!

  • what hapens when you play a chord with multiplexer??

  • if its based on a ring modulator (probably isnt) it would make a dissonant clang sound like a bell.

If its based on opamps (it is analog) it would likely glitch like hell and play the second note after a few seconds. Listen to a MXR blue box to get an idea of this.

The EHX micro synth's octaves are basically an octave multiplexer and a green ringer circuit

  • it does not sound that wonderful, its better for single notes. the notes just get lost

  • meh the jonny octave is very bland and subtle

  • Good lord at least attempt to make the volumes equal.

  • the octave multiplexer doesnt have a volum control

and Im not sure about the jonny octave

  • Is it just me or does the Jonny Octave pedal not sound likes its doing octaves?

  • if its a ring mod circuit like a tychobrahe, you have to play above 12th fret, tone knob rolled back and rhythm pickup to get the best sound from it.

  • @Indybird i think it might be because he dosent have the knobs set high enough

  • @Indybird I think it's octave up ...

  • @Indybird because, the johnny octave produces and octave up over-tone, where the octave multiplexer does an octave down, the johnny octave is more for the fuzz octave

  • ehx octave multiplexer is a monophonic

    it can't hold the chord.

  • what song is in the beggining?

  • Icky Thump - The White Stripes

  • haha this guy sounds like dale from king of thhe hill!!!!

  • JB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah....my vote is that this is Jack Black. Oh, and i love all zvex pedals.

  • I SWEAR TO GOD, THAT IS JACK BLACK

  • lol sounds like him lol.

  • yes

  • i just bought the big ass old school octave multiplexer before seeing this video, and I am satisfied with my decision

  • this guy sound like friggin' JACK BLACK.

  • there should be an s there, I'm sure of it.

  • @Outokone That's because he is JB :)

  • very cool. thx

  • That a nice setup.

How old is that Tele? Does it have a true CuNiFe Wide Range Pickup in the neck there?

Personally, I really dig that Jonny Octave. It's got some real soul to it.

  • this is the most biased "shoot out " I've ever seen.. and nothing was adjusted. seems like comparing the "deluxe" octave multplexer to the fingerpainted one would have been more accurate.

  • ehx pog destroys both of those pedals

  • not the priceeeee, yet it is wonderful

  • yeah the $325 price tag is the only thing that has kept me from getting it. maybe some day. hell, you could by a danelectro guitar for that kind of money and have enough left over for a year's supply of strings.

  • i wishhh they still made arion octaves, twenty buckss and as good as the boss oc-3

  • Is that so? I don't really care for monophonic octave generators or most of Boss' pedals. You may want to check out the Danelectro chili dog octave pedal. It's $30, but i have no idea how good it sounds or how sturdy it is.

  • im looking for an octave and the oc-3 is perfectt for me becuasee im so influence by deron miller if youu know who thatt iss anywayss yeahh i was going to buy thatt at my local guitar centerr but i didnt see it there or sam ash and i forgot to askk aha and i dont feel likee ordering it onlinee becuasee for thirty buckss i would rather try it firstt

  • trust me, danelectro pedals arent that good, the reveiws for the chili-dog were sad, bad effect in a plastic housing

  • whuts the song in the begining of the video?

  • icky thump by the white stripes

  • sweet thanks

  • the eh is WAAAY better. zvex adds gain and distortion to the sound like most of the hendrix-like pedals, and the result is not so good. EH octavers are more versatile and fat, pristine sounding. even if there was some minor tracking problem here...

  • doesnt EH also make the POG? whats the difference?

  • the pog does a lot more. It can do octaves up and make organ sounds etc.

  • OK the main difference is the EHX POG is Polyphonic that means it can work on full chords.

The EHX Octave Multiplexer is Monophonic and can only work single notes at a time.

E.g; EHX POG, Micro POG & HOG are Polyphonic. Digitech Whammy pedal, Boss OC-2, DOD Octoplus, EHX Multiplexer, and most Octave pedals are Monophonic.

A Polyphonic octave unit works on chords and make your guitar sound like a 12-string.

    Hope that helps.

  • the POG also costs 4 times as much as this one.

  • yer the pog would be my definate choice if i had the money

the whammy would come in at a close second

  • the ehx pedal is the better of the two.

  • Very cool pedals. Tip top review as usual!

  • icky thump!!!!
