  • that doesn't make sense because I had 4gb of RAM on a 32bit vista and it recognized all of it

  • lol, I have 16GB Ram in Windows...

  • @DH1Studios 16........ i have only 2.... o_o

  • @FSXFan1090 same )_) i think me and you are blood brothers .

  • @MegaTimebomb098 i fuck mah 2gb >:( because i has a 1.1GB videocard but only 2gb ram and thats fucked up :(

  • 2 days before my birthday (25th May 2011)

  • My Windows 7 32bit recognize that I got 4gb installed, but it can only use 3.25gb,and of those only 2 are used by programs because 1gb is being kept for default Windows processes.

  • can 64-bit machines run more than 4 gigabytes ram plz replay am maybe going for a upgrade

  • @cod6master1 Yes they can, I have Vista Home Premium 64bit and I have 8GB ram. You just need to make sure your motherboard can handle that amount of RAM, has enough slots for the RAM and if it used DDR2 or DDR3. You can get larger and faster RAM with DDR3

  • 8GB.

  • useless vids dude!

  • does anyone know why my memory goes above 90% wen I install a game? I have 4GB RAM and a i5-2410M but my processor doesnt do shit

  • @bombach007 ram isn't a basis for overall performance...

    you forgot your graphics card

  • @taejamhaha ok 1st of all read my comment again. 2nd of all I know why it goes above 90%, its because of daemon tools. I use it to install games, but daemon tools has some kind of a bug.

  • So quick question... Will getting any ram over 2gb on 32bit XP be pointless?

  • lol 4gigs i have 12gigs!

  • @fbxxxfb I only have 8 :(

  • @MyDiceWon I Only Have 958 mb lol

  • or you could patch the Kernel with a physical address extension and use all the ram you want in 32 Bit. :-)

  • what i did.i had my laptop with win 7 home premium.i have activated the copy on 32 bit (the original preinstalled os) than i sow that cant access all the ram ... so i went to a retailer and asked him (nicely :)) ) for a clean 64 copy of win 7 and used the same 32 bit serial number and worked ... u can do the same i think with other versions(did it with PRO to)of win 7 or vista even with a downloaded copy if necessary ( take care to be a clean original copy not to have any kind of problems)

  • help i have windows 7 (32)

    i have a custom pc

and 4 gb ram but it only uses 2 gb Help me i need 4 gb ram

  • @H34dshotMickey actually you dont need 4gb ram for windows 7 (32).. but if you insist, 32 bit windows 7 only recognizes 3.25 out of 4 gigs installed of ram in your computer... if you want a maximum of 4 gig running, you should upgrade your windows 7 to 64 bit format.. but then again as you were saying, you have 4 gb but only 2 gb usable... i think its more of a mother board issue or one of your RAM is not recognized... you better run it in dual channel.

  • @dynobotski what?

OK MY PC SAYS 4.00 GB (2.00 gb Availeble)

if im gonna run a gam i need more then 2 ram like 3 or something. will it be able to run it?

  • @H34dshotMickey ok wait... what os are you using? are you using windows 7? what is the model of your motherboard?

2 GB ram is playable in any high end game i think.

  • @dynobotski for crisis 2 i need atleast 3

my OS is windows 7 (32 bit)

    my motherboard:

    ASUS M5A78L-MLX

  • actually 32 bit os recognizes 3.25GB RAM...but uses 2.96GB

  • The most I ever got Windows XP 32 bit to see was 3.2GB with a Pentium 4

I upgradede the processor to a quad-core AMD but kept the same 4GB RAM and installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and lo and behold, the system sees all 4 GB

Also, yes, 32 bit Applications will run on 64 bit Windows. The system will create a folder called Program Files (86x) and install in there. Runs very nice too.

  • windows sucks just like LA

  • @talha128k and like your gaming and social skills! (oh... burn xD nailed you!)

  • @AdamX21198 oh really ???..

  • From experience other then gaming, Windows 7 on 4GB, everything from word processing to record (not just playing) 720P video is plenty. I don't remeber surpassing 2GB used outside of gaming. And having 50% empty ram gives a lot of buffer to keep things snappy.

  • definitly wrong

my 32bit vista laptop came with 3GB and it shows 2.87GB usable

  • @vgking699 It's probably because your integrated video takes an small amount of your Ram, in your case, your ram is 3GB * 1024 MB = 3072MB - 128 MB = 2944 MB / 1024 MB = 2.875 GB

  • my computer can only handle 2gb ddr ram WOOOTT beat that!

  • i have 16gb of ram and run 64 bit :)

  • really the fucking commercials are RUINING YOUTUBE!!!

  • WinVista/7 (32 bits) can run up to 4 GB ram. XP (32bit) can run up to 2gb, if you want to run it up to 4gb you have to tweak something on winxp and avoid rebooting/install xp 64bit. (Pm me if you want some help)

  • Hi,.......I'm running win 7 32 bit,........and when I go to my computer properties,.....it says that I have 4GB installed but 3GB usable,......Is it cause my os can recognize only 3GB ? ,.....reply if u know the answer ? thx,.....

  • @sawmassacre13 What Win7 version are you using? home? ultimate? maybe you are using the Home version...

  • @LuisRamirez666 ,........... ultimate

  • Youre all stupid, windows xp 32 will be able to see up to 3.25 and use that, vista 32 detects 4gb but uses 3.25 and on some occasions 4gb fully, now F U chris! :D

  • i have the same problem i tried different methods on 64 bit and 32 bit OS and also tried removing my graphics card but the problem stil persists .My mother board supports upto 4gb ram but shows only 3 gb which is reported as 3071 in the bios but cpu z show 4096 and there is no memory remapping feature in the bios

  • hey should i go 64 bit on won 7 if i have 4 gigs of ram

  • @bonkai991 Yes, i think you should, because 32 bit can't recognize the 4 gigs, and i don't know any cons about 64 bit.

  • @karlwestling

64-bit is getting better, now, so now would be a good time to jump into it. Most driver support even for weird devices that I use in music software is handled pretty well.

  • I have 64 bit windows 7 with 4GB for now...but I have measured my CPU output/usage with a few free programs. It uses between 0.6GB and 1 GB just running and I have not seen it go higher than 2.6 GB with programs running...I am sure if I overclocked, I could max it, but there's no need

  • will programs recognize 4 gb of ram, if windows doesnt reconize it???

  • @lceemusic sadly no

  • @randomhelpfulness how dare they

  • HEY GUYS! SAYING "3.25GB CHRIS", LOOK AT TE DATE OF THE VIDEO!!!

  • @BlondBlackGuy, I just did and shat bricks.

  • 32bits suck. 64bit is the future. get used to it now :P

  • ASUS Laptop is the way to go. Forget HP, Acer etc...

  • @Watchdawg That is the answer when asked 'What laptop should I get?'

seriousle, HP's drivers are like 5GB xD xD xD

  • hes wrong its 3.25gb

  • wow 3 years is a LONG TIME, cant remember when all the hype for 2GB computers was

  • @PowDaFuture

    of course...

  • psh 4g? i run 7 with 8 gigs and i7 pro.

  • Ur a NERD!!

i Run a Acer Aspire With Vista Home Basic With 4GB of Ram and Perfect 32BIT

  • @MegaAkad Acer? enjoying your crashes.

  • I have a Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and it has 3GB of RAM.

  • I have 32 vista & can run up to a max of 4GB of RAM.

  • @INDIANAgaby

    32 bit?Probablly Its 64bit

  • @pcgamefan360 nope 32,my pc can't run 64 bit version of vista

  • @INDIANAgaby

    i have 64 windows 7, 3.0GHz 500GB hard drive and 4GB ram

  • @INDIANAgaby so what he is talking about this video isn't correct???

  • @rilind101 No,its correct

  • @INDIANAgaby i just got a labtop with 7 64-bit premium and i hav 4 GB of RAM and tht is the low end of the spectrum

  • @INDIANAgaby My old computer runs on Vista 32, and recognizes 4GB, but can only use 3.5GB.

  • @INDIANAgaby I have a Windows 7 64x-Bit Home premium, and it's maximum capacity for RAM is 8GB

(I just need to buy a frickin' upgrade to get the other 4GB...)

  • is there a 108x-bit? I hope so... More RAM = Win

  • @INDIANAgaby No you can't. Never ever. It "see's" 4GBs, its actually only using 3GB. If you want to use 4GB, use 64 bit.

  • @SOF006 actually if you add a physical address extension to the kernel you can use as much ram as you want in 32 bit. :-) Look it up. it's one of those things that Microsoft wants to keep a Secret. Intel invented it. It works Well. Linux users Like me Use it all the Time. Most of your Programs are still 32 bit anyways so a PAE is all you really need for Now. :-) unless you Multitask like a crazy man you wont see any difference form PAE to 64Bit. it benchmarks pretty close to the same.

  • @SOF006 3.25 GB to be accurate :-)

  • @SOF006 use a 4gb patch instead

  • @taejamhaha No, that actually doesn't work. It makes the system recognise 4GBs but the system doesn't actually take advantage of it. I should know i've tried it myself.

  • @SOF006 well im glad im using 32 bit becuase i never use all of my 3 gb and for some reason the last gigabyte is reserved for video card as a system reserve

  • @INDIANAgaby You can use around 3 GB but games can only use 2 gb of RAM + video RAM, its limited.

  • If you use Linux, use the PAE kernel for 64 GiB of RAM as a maximum

  • man i also can run mah vista with crappy 1 gb... -.- seriously...this guy has no clue what he is talkin about...3.25 gb = highest 32bit support.....and i am 18...

  • my freaking XP can support 3GB of my 4GB so I guess I have 32bit and I don't think I'll need to upgrade soon.

How can I check whether or not I have a 32bit or 64bit OS?

  • 3.25 is the right amount in some would be more or less. It depends, actually it is recognizing 4gb of ram, but the 500-900 mb ram is missing due to system reserved memory. More system memory will be used if you have a onboard GPU depending on the Video Aperture Size being allocated in the BIOS and even more if you have a decent GPU as of today.

  • Bull crap you should have 6 to 8 GB of RAM this way you can use the extra RAM for a virtual machine ...

  • idiot

  • 0:01 skip teh ad!

  • wrong 32 bit max is 4gb but usually if u have graphics card some of that is deleted off so its liek 3gb or 3.512gb max so ye ull never reach 4gb with graphics card but yes it will recongnize more then 2 gb

  • 4gb is too much... get 2 gb..best for games... theres no games that requires 4gb...

  • I have 7 32 bit but have an 64bit processer and 4gb ram and it reconizes 2. how can i get to reconize more than that? can some one help

  • @theh8edclown:Use 64 bit OS ;)

  • Bad quality videos lol man we are 2010 lol

  • @smileforeverever it was filmed in 2007

  • @smileforeverever You are most un-intelegrnt

  • @smileforeverever Video was uploaded in 2007

  • @smileforeverever This was in 2007......

  • @smileforeverever well if u look with some eyes u will see that this vid was posted in 2007

  • Which one should i get? Acer? Dell? HP? Gateaway? Toshiba?

  • @minhmeo1209 I have had personal good experiences with Gateway and (older) Toshiba computers. Dell: Not so much

  • @minhmeo1209 dell or toshiba

  • I'm running windows with 1GB.

  • windows xp 32 can see upp to 4Gb of total memory... both grafic and work mem o if u are using xp 32Bit and have instald 4Gb ram and have a grafic kard that have 512Mb then take away the 512 from yout ram ... 4096-512=3584 Mb ram dos the system recognice...

  • well i got a laptop that was 2 gb of ram my dad upgraded it to 64bit and it wasnt enough to for me so i put in 4 gb ins but i am now running windows 7 use seven windows basic is faster than vista vista sucks 7 runs alot of xp drivers and vista didnt

  • this is kinda old so u 4g on 32 bit is needed for gammers!

  • it seems funny what people were thinking back few years ago that said 4gb was too much back then. today 4gb became the absolutely minimum for data amange and multi-media/gaming. especially blue ray eats huge chunk of memory and nearly full loading in both cpu and gpu. a modern desktop will equip with standard size of 8/12gb ram and high end can even go up to 24/32/48gb of ram. 4gb is way too small!

  • hehe 7.00GB RAM

  • 32-bit OS can recognize 3-3.7GB RAM, not 2GB

  • i have 64 bit Windows7 ultimate and 4 GB ram but i says that it reads only 3.25GB What to do ?

  • If you get 4GB ram on vista or win 7 32 bit, it will say 4.00GB, 3.00GB usable. So it only uses 3GB.

  • this vid is so outdated :D

  • should I get 4GB for vista on 32bit? I already have 2 but it's not enough.

  • @poilut2 I say go for 3gigs. I believe 3.2 - 3.5 is the max 32 bit will recognize, so it makes more sense to go with 3 gigs.

  • is 3.00G of ram good ?????

  • Fuck u locker SHIT , u are a fucking asshole nerd go and fuck with some girls u virgin fuck

  • I have 128MB RAM on a Notebook with Windows XP Home!

  • @HanumarGames mmm powerful :)

  • well even if you have 2gb of ram, if you use 64 bit you can reach like 30 gb or even more of virtual memory, versus having a limit i think of 2gb-4gb of virtual memory, on a 32 bit, depending of how many partition do you have. i mean, this is useful depending of your pc usage. but i do need both memory ram and virtual memory.

  • GREAT EXPLANATION.. Stop watching the video by the time you sayd that a 32 s.o. only recognizes 2 gb because... IT RECOGNIZES AND USES 3GB. not just 2.

What's the poing of doing these videos if you're giving wrong informations?!

  • I'm running a hp pavilion elite that has 9Gb of ram with windows7 64bit.

  • my computer has 480MB RAM

  • wow, he really had no clue what he was talking about.

32 bit windows can recognize up to 3.25, not 2.

    bleh.

  • @bkisme 4GB is the max for 32 bit... buuuut other devices that have built in ram get assigned addresses... Maybe he has a video card with 2GB of ram and he only saw 2GB? idk, I know Windows Starter editions only allow 2GB...

  • @kencluck3 Anyone with a 2gb video card (Generally $200+) still running a 32 bit OS is a complete idiot.

And on another note, anyone running "Windows XP Starter Edition" with anymore than 2 gigs of RAM installed is also a complete idiot.

If you have a 2GB video card, 4 gigs of RAM, and Windows Starter Edition... May your deity help you, because I sure can't.

  • @bkisme For sure, a lot of people don't realize though that devices that have built in ram get assigned the same addresses as the main memory, so there's only so many possible addresses and if you have ram in other places that'll get taken out of your 4GB, I'm very surprised Chris thinks the limit is 2GB unless he's mis-speaking it because that's basic A+ tech stuff

  • @bkisme Look at the date, 2007. Windows Vista builds back in 2007 could only read up to 2GB.

    Jesus CHRIST...

  • @bkisme depends on the montherboard

  • @bkisme you might also be misinformed, 32 bit operating systems can recognize up to 3.75 GB of RAM, and 64 bit operating systems can recognize (theoretically) up to 128 GB of RAM, but it can also depend on your system, as he was saying, with computers, especially talking speed, you are only as strong as your weakest link, so say if your CPU cant proccess and put out the information quick enough for the RAM to relay it, it doesnt matter how much RAM you have, your system will still run slower.

  • My Computer has 1GB Ram :)

  • OT: I also want to have 2x30" screens:-)

  • I have 64 bit and have 6gb

  • Windows 7 32 Bit will recognize 4 GB but only utilize 3.5 GB of ram :)

  • i hate windows vista its horrible mac is way better

  • I used vista for 4GB ram and it froze it takes to much memory

  • 32bit recognizes 3.25Gb not 2Gb... get your shit straight

  • 3.5 gb with 32 bits vista 7 or xp there all the same

  • Nothing is enough to run Vista. I know I'm running it right know.

  • I have windows XP 32bit and have have 4 gb of ram and windows detects 3.25gb of ram not 2 gb but with vista...

  • Lenard!!!( The Big Bang Theory reference)

  • @HowToDs oh the big bang theory rocks but that wernt kinda funny no offence i love the big band theory anyway

  • x64 cant run 16bit 8086 mode? you're kidding me? my xp x64 runs whatever any dos program smoothly without issue. the 16 bit issue is proved that is exclusive on vista/7 based os where the new api(dx10/11, hardware managing accelerator, super fatch...etc) will have huge conflict with dos based code. not just on 64bit but also on 32bit vista/7 as well. so basically 64bit cant run dos is just busted myth

  • /watch?v=GYt1jF4lJDQ

  • u are awesome

  • I got 24 gigs of RAM.

  • @2s7a2m7 definatly overkill

  • @2s7a2m7 u dont need A GPU

  • @HackerBoy003 WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! " YOU DONT NEED A GPU" ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?!?

  • @2s7a2m7 sure and im hell boy

  • @2s7a2m7 Waste of money bitch...

  • @2s7a2m7 LMAO 24GB OF RAM!! Damn

  • @sagas599 lol i was joking

  • 64 bit is the stended for pc now

  • This is why the total addressable space available in a 32 bit OS is 4GB the OS runs out of addresses and cannot communicate/locate any more bytes of memory because of that.

  • In a computer all bytes in the memory system need a unique name. This is called an address. For example, if you have 2 GB of main memory, then there are 2147483648 bytes of RAM in your machine, each of which require an address for the operating system to communicate to it. To give these all an address you need 31 bits to do it. Now, if/when you have 32 bits, you can name 4 GB (2 bytes to the 32nd power = 4GB).

  • Make sure your not limited to the 2GB, application, 2Gb Kernel, possible 3.2GB of the possible 4 billion (4GB) 32bit addresses which is the limitation of 32bit memory address space with the 32bit OS. If you have 64bit hardware. Most Hardware now is Native 64bit. With 64bit comes native compatibility for all 32bit software anyway. Definately BUY 64bit. Whereas 4, 6, 8, 16, 24GB. But difference in performance is negligable if you are running 32bit apps software in 64bit OS environment. More Mem!

  • The limitation is caused by what is known as, the memory hole. With a 32bit OS, it can, in theory, address 4Gb of memory. It will not address that much if the PCI bus has devices with onboard memory. Those devices have to have a reserved address space, which usually conflicts with the memory in your system. In most cases, video cards now ship with between 512Mb and 1Gb of ram, in some cases, more. PCI bus with devices that have onboard memory will eat away the amount of RAM your OS can address.

  • My PC. Windows XP SP3. 32 bit.

It recognizes 2.5 GB, seems to bust the 2GB ceiling described in this video. Also, no modifications to the BIOS or anything.

  • will 4gb ddr2 run really fast on windows 7 pro 64-bit

  • 1.Open a command prompt (Press Window key + R to open the Run dialog, and then type cmd).

2.Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to execute (this allows you to run cmd in administrative mode if you havent already setup up a permanent admin mode).

    3.Type BCDedit /set PAE forceenable.

This PAE flag (Physical Address Extension) tells the Vista core to use an additional 4 bits of addressing, which in theory allows the OS to see all of the RAM you have available.

  • Your not out of the woods yet, once you reboot you may find that Vista still doesnt see all of your RAM. You can turn PAE off again by typing BCDedit /set PAE forcedisable or BCDedit /set PAE default.

  • That is only a cosmetic fix

  • on my xp i have 5 gb but it only says it has 2 gb

  • 2 gigs is the max amount of RAM u can have on xp

  • wrong,i have 3..but now i have win 7 ulti and i need to know how to use my 4 gb ram...

  • DDR2 RAM vs. DDR3: How much of a difference does it make?

  • x64 Win7 runs with just a few bugs in my Sony Vaio with 2GB DDR3. I must upgrade to 4GB!

  • lol he said 4gb is too much. my alienware has 24gb

  • on amd platforn the 32bit is lagging just see start menu jump list slide.. on 32 is horrible. on 64 is smooooooth

  • 64-bit is better for gaming

    32-bit is program friendly

  • 64 better for gaming? no...

because the games are still made 32 bit. If producers would make games 64 bit, half of the game world would get stuck.

If people have 64 a bit version, I recommend using it by having atleast 6 gb of RAM. 64 bit itself.. can be good, but it's not realy necessary.

my specs: Q9550, 8 GB DDR2 800 MHz, Asus P5QL Pro, ATI XFX 5850 Black Edition gfx Card, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

  • hi got win 7 on 512mb of ram and buying a 2gb stick tyomrrow will it run mush fast with areo and the other useless feature off

  • its the windows vista ultimate work fast on my pc

    4gb ram

    2.80 ghz

ATI Radeon HD 4670 1 gb

  • sure.

  • @Samp155 yarp

  • i got win7 ultimate and i got 1.50 ram can you tell me if i can upgrade to 4gbs?

  • basically there is not enough numbers to be allocated to a 32bit, 4GB the width is at its limit 64bit = 8gb hence to gain more memory or effectively exceed this limit we use registered RAM where each ram module has a buffer chip ram is handled by the buffer and the motherboard only sees the buffer chip not the larger density of ram hidden away. registered ram has a higher latency so its best to use unbuffered. intels new CPU solves this with 3 Independent bus's each 8gb max for unbuffered

  • lol 32bit is limited to 4gb windows sees 3.2gb because the bios allocates address space as a 32bit system can not address above 4gb. Hence memory remapping feature is where the bios sends the address range above 4gb on 32bit systems effectively making 4.6gb lets say. windows does not support this feature so windows remaps it back into the 4gb address range. Linux is the only OS i know of that supports 32bit 4gb remapping on x86 but then graphics drivers(ATI) don't support it lol

  • 3GB will be seen by a 32bit OS... anything more than that it wont.

  • my vista sees 4gig and its 32bit... wtf?
