  • I wonder what would have happened if they threw Taylor Dayne into the mix?! WHOOO, SHHIIT!!!

  • Let us all now BOW to Lady T ...Ms. TEENA MARIE ..xoxoxoo

  • THAT WAS AWESOME!!!

  • This looks like Unity Day in Philly.

  • Yes yes and yes somore. That's artistry. I'm in tears in hearing Teena. I'm missing her and can't believe she's been gone this long.

  • that was the bomb!! RIP Teena

  • SCREAM FEST

    SCREAM FEST

  • Teena was in a class of her own, like Hammer said "You can't touch this". An angel has flown home. See ya' later Lady T.

  • "When you think about Madonna and some of the other girls, you should think about Teena Marie!"

  • goose bumps

  • Please find the next part of this video ! If only you knew

  • OH AND LETS NOT FORGET TEENA'S TALENT LASTED HER WHOLE CAREER. HER VOICE NEVER GAVE OUT *cough mariah, whitney* lmaoo im jus playing i love mariah and whitney im jus having fun cus teena kills em!!

  • @RiriCourtier just having fun letting u know, NON of these ladys have song as much as MS HOUSTON nor have any of them song a song like IWALY almost weekly for 10 years straight plus all her other Anthems . Any voice problems whitney is having is cuz she sung her voice out. Put them all in their prime and we know the winner(HOUSTON!)

  • LOOK AT THE RESPECT PATTY IS GIVING HER AS SHE BELTS THOSE NOTES! patty is jus as happy to be on stage with lady t. her peers adored her talent. THESE TWO WOMEN RIGHT HERE ARE THE TRUTH. R.I.P. LADY T!!!

  • where was this

  • I love when she, and patti sang secret garden

  • One in a million cant get that no more .

  • Man, I would have paid top dollar to see this live. I saw Patti live in 1995, but this would have been a real treat. I wish Patti and Teena had done stuff together more often.

  • 2 of the greatest voices ever with out a doubt!!!!

  • Teena's death is one of those things that made me ask God. "Why?!"...

  • lol at the audience going crazy.

  • I loved that patti told the world about not knowing who teena marie is! sooo very true, she is one of the artists who never got her props for some strange reason! i wonder if it was cause of the times etc, cus nower days if a white girl sounds soulful, folks are all over em.

  • @kvocalist i really think it was an industry "conspiracy" because of the law suit she wan against Motown. That may sound crazy, but don't forget it stopped some giant company from having their way, and they will pay you back. They were forced to pay out some huge sums and could no longer enslave them indefinitely as a result of that suit. The suite they never thought she would win.

  • @tigner1 I never thought about that but you are absolutely right. Teena Marie will live forever in our hearts but yes, she should have garnered more industry acclaim than she did but maybe the love and respect of her fans, family & peers was more important to her than Grammies, etc.

  • @tigner1 Amen.. I have said this for years that's why Teena never blew up like Madonna etc. Look what happen to Mariah Carey!! Mariah didn't quit just like Teena didn't. Motown was pissed off that Teena didn't back down and that's that and she did win the case. Hands down for Lady T!!!

  • @kvocalist There is always someone from back in the day that did something these new artists are doing now.

  • LOL

  • OMG Teena Marie and Patti Labelle I almost fell outta my seat !! WOW that was amazing!!

  • Wow, raw God given talent.

  • these are my two favorite female "vocalist!!!" EVER!!!

  • Ok! This is good stuff rite here! Ok! Now I see!

  • This was the day I first met these two beautiful women. I was escorted to their trailer by my manager Julius Erving III. Said he wanted me to meet someone real quick. And there they were. A great moment in my life!!! I knew I wanted to move from the UK and stay in Philly and see what would happen... SO MUCH HAPPENED!!! THANK YOU Miss Patti LaBelle. xoxoxo's

    R.I.P Teena Marie. LOVE

    Marsha Ambrosius

  • A classy set of ladies who never performed enough together for my taste; RIP Teena Marie. Huge UPS to Patti for recognizing and loving Lady Tee, not because she wanted to be fashionable and chic, but because she was genuine and loving.

  • KUDOS to Miss Patti for her genuine sincerity towards our Lady Tee. As usual Lady Tee tore it up in that small amount of time and look how humble she was. Her true fans knew her and let's make sure the rest of the world knows what it missed out on.

  • Damn they're so good! Teena Marie was just so amazing!

  • Teena & Patti? That's a bombshell loaded w/talent.This is Philly, were I use to live, WDAS FM stage banner gives it away. Patti's hometown. When Prince did his concert there he pulled Patti out of the audience and they performed a number on stage.

  • We are all God's children, yet we divide ourselves up into sides, like black and white, and fight and hate each other. Teena Marie was a complete musician. She wrote, produced, sang, arranged, and played multiple instruments. She was always underrated, yet she answered record label cheats and the occasional bigot who tried to hold her back with the positive power of her love and music.

Hear Lenny Kravitz's moving tribute to her here on YT. It will touch your heart. We love you, Lady T.

  • Teena marie was my girl i grew up listening to her she was tha bizzness i have so many memories come back to me when i hear her music and now that im 32 when i have get togethers at my house sumtimes teena marie always get played and we all have a good ass time she will b sorely missed

  • No truer words were ever spoken, when Patti said "You know those people that just should have so much more than they have? Teena's one of those people." I too feel she wasn't ready to leave us. I always imagine her living a long life, but I guess I realize now that she more health problems than we really knew about. It probably started when she had that stage accident during the '88 tour.

  • @SmoothCinnamonX From what I read, it started in 2005, in a hotel room, where a picture hanging over the bed fell on her while she was asleep. She suffered a concussion, and that's what triggered the seizures which eventually led to her passing. She had 2 major seizures beforehand, the 2nd one in October 2010. I'm almost afraid to say this, but I think after that 2nd one she probably sat her daughter down and had that long conversation with her.

  • @musiclover77able it was last night at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, with Maze and Frankie Beverly featuring Patti Labelle.

  • Last Night Patti dedicated Somewhere over the rainbow to Teena Marie. So beautiful and so sad. I am still trying to figure out why God allowed this to happen.

  • The world has been robbed!!! So many people are gonna miss you, I know when ever I was feeling down, I listened to her music and it always moved me in such a special way, words just can't describe. Her music has really been helping me through my journey with cancer and every time I listen to her she just makes me wanna bounce back and beat this. You move me Teena and I'm gonna continue to fight and leave this cancer behind. I love you Lady T, R.I.P.

  • @musiclover77able True dat! They all should have been bowing to Lady T. Even Lisa. And you can add Anastacia to that list. Sadly, most of those girls either didn't know, didn't care or took Teena for granted.

  • @musiclover77able True dat! As far as I know, Madonna didn't take to writing and producing until MUCH later in her career.

  • @musiclover77able I can only imagine the epic duet (with perhaps more to follow) that Teena and her daughter Alia would have written, played and sung together, unlike anything they have done before, enough to have had people calling them the R&B equivalent of Naomi and Wynonna Judd; and for once the pop world would certainly have taken notice. To think about what most certainly would have been, is really depressing

  • @musiclover77able And then I wonder, what if Luther had not suffered a stroke in 2003? I would have bet the farm that Teena would have asked him to sing with her on one song (which they would have co-written) for her 2004 comeback album 'La Doña'; and what they would have come up with would have caught everyone by complete surprise, enough to have made this 4th gold album of hers platinum, and earn Teena her first Grammy Award. She doesn't even have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

  • @musiclover77able As I watched this videoclip, I could not help but wonder, what if Patti and Teena had recorded a song together as a duet? That would have been enormous! Teena was probably one of a VERY few women brave enough to even try to sing with Patti. She had the voice, the power and the finesse for it. The closest they came to a duet was when they sang on Pamela Williams' version of "The Secret Garden" with Pat Peterson...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able Sorry if I went off the rails here, but it really stings to hear or read about the sudden passing of an artist, especially a legend, who genuinely still had so much to offer and TEACH the younger generations, even if they are too ignorant or unwilling to listen because they have been so thoroughly manipulated enough to think that today's artists are the be-all-to-end-all and that's all there is...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able And I dare say, there are even some black female R&B artists who owe their success to Teena, like India.Arie and Alicia Keys, who both write, produce and play instruments. Aside from these two and a few others whose names slip my mind, you almost never see any women today play instruments and sing live, especially in R&B. Gone are the days of Klymaxx and Patrice Rushen in this genre.

  • @musiclover77able Whether they acknowledge it or not, artists like those I've mentioned, along with Pink, Amy Winehouse, and even Madonna (who early in her career was jealous of Teena), among others, owe their present or past R&B success to Teena...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able ...So much, that "All Around The World", "You Can't Deny It", and "All Woman", all went to #1 on the R&B charts, and funny as it may seem, "All Woman" was NOT a pop hit. It only reached #56 on the Hot 100 in 1992. Pop radio was starting to marginalize Lisa the way they did Teena.

Arista didn't release Lisa's 3rd album in the U.S. By the time they released her 4th, the thunder she had was gone...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able ...I was nearly astonished again in 1989. When I first heard the hit "People Hold On" (which she sang with Coldcut), I thought Lisa was black. Then I saw the video. Déjà vu, indeed. I bought that record. She got a standing ovation at the Apollo in early 1990, BEFORE she started singing "All Around The World". The fact that neither she nor her co-writers cut any corners (for lack of a better phrase) earned her plenty of respect within U.S. R&B circles...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able If you look at the R&B charts throughout the 1980s and early-1990s, you'll find the U.K.'s fingerprints everywhere, and Lisa was a part of it. In 1980, even I was astonished when I saw that Teena was white, after hearing her sing (I never saw her perform with Rick James on 'Soul Train' in 1979; my mother bought 'Lady T')...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able I don't know how Lisa feels about having been compared to Teena (and I wonder if they ever met), but even though none of the white female artists who followed Teena in the world of R&B are in the same league, Lisa, as far as I know, is almost always mentioned as the one who came the closest...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able ...But with Exposé and Taylor Dayne dropping hits on the R&B charts, the floodgates started opening. You could probably put these women in the so-called category of "blue-eyed soul", because as far as I know they didn't start out doing R&B, and they did venture out into other areas of pop. Lisa Stansfield is another story. She got into R&B by way of rhythmic tech-pop (check out the videos from the group Blue Zone) and house music (and house is an R&B sub-genre)...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able She should have been nominated for a Grammy in 1989 for "Ooo-La-La-La". Even though I think Anita Baker's "Giving You The Best That I Got" might still have won, Teena's song probably would have made a lot of voters reconsider, because Anita already had 2 from 1987 and was a shoo-in for 2 others. They wasted a nomination on Taylor Dayne's "I'll Always Love You", which only reached #29 on the R&B charts. Again, they were looking at songs which were also pop hits...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able ...They were "Father Figure" (#6), "One More Try" (#1) and "Monkey" (#8), all of which went to #1 on the Hot 100. He ended up ranked as the #4 R&B artist of 1988 (he, his album 'Faith', and the song itself were all #1 pop), with Teena at #44 This is the time where R&B radio basically followed pop's lead. Whatever was hot on pop radio, R&B radio played more often. Teena didn't stand a chance, though they could not ignore "Ooo-La-La-La"...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able ...I can't let R&B radio off the hook, though, because even they were susceptible to being smitten or distracted by new talent. In 1988, Teena's "Ooo-La-La-La" (my favorite) became her first (and only) #1 R&B hit, and she followed it up with the #10 hit "Work It". But she had company, and was overshadowed by someone who had the pop world at his feet. His name is George Michael. Three of his hits from the album 'Faith' made the R&B top 10...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able ...I'm pretty sure she had fans who listened to pop radio, despite the fact that her music almost never played there. But as far as pop radio was concerned, she and the music she performed were way too black for them. If pop radio in the 1980s were anything like pop radio in the late-1990s, and everything else was the same, many more of her R&B hits would have also made the Hot 100...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able Pop radio, top-40 radio, CHR or whatever you want to call it, was never really her friend. The only reason I think they finally got around to playing "Lovergirl" was that it was unavoidable. We already knew she could bring the funk, but I gather that, when pop listeners kept calling in for this song, they could not even dare to resist. If she was going to have any pop success, she would have it on HER terms, not theirs. She didn't even bother to appease them...[Cont'd]

  • @musiclover77able Indeed. Strange as it may be, singles-wise, Jimi was more popular in the U.K. than in the U.S. And to tell you the truth, I despise the term 'blue-eyed soul' being applied to Teena. For one, I think her eyes were hazel-brown; and for another, she was soaking up soul, funk and jazz like a sponge long before she signed to Motown in 1975. She was unlike most white artists who were considered 'pop', who just happened to venture into R&B. She STARTED OUT doing R&B.

  • Teena is one example (and she had 2 top-40 pop hits); if you read the charts, you'll find that neither Cheryl Lynn nor Melba Moore had ANY top-40 pop hits, but they had plenty of hits on the R&B charts, even multiple #1s, which goes to show that you didn't have to have a pop hit to validate your career. There are blues, jazz and even rock artists who were never chart-toppers and may have never made the Hot 100, EVER; but some of them became legends and even supreme legends nonetheless.

  • Let me lay the bottom line down on this 'one-hit-wonder' shit: One hit in the top 40 of the Hot 100 doth not necessarily a one-hit wonder maketh; certainly not when that same artist had a slew of hits on the chart of the genre he or she specializes in, be it R&B, rock, country or dance, or anything else. [Cont'd]

  • The incomparable LadyT, there is and will never be anyone that can fill her shoes...RIP LadyT

  • Teena Marie took care of business as usual! R.I.P Lady T

  • It has made me sad to see how many people did not know who Teena Marie was. Even people my age (38) did not know her. How can you listen to music and not know a single Teena song? I grew up listening to her since I was a child. Back in the days of gangsta rap, boy bands etc I still had Teena playing.

  • @Nykki72 I hear you about people not knowing her. If they did it was like oh yeah the one hit wonder Lovergirl. I get so pissed off. And Patti Labelle is so right Teena was one of those women that never got what was deserved. I'm glad that Mrs. Labelle acknowledge her and said don't stop singing Teena! Then mention Madonna saying in a classy way Teena deserves the fame!! RIP Lady T U will always be in my heart. I myself am 43 and grew up on her music!! Love u always and 4-ever!!!

  • I'm not ashamed to say this: I'm pretty sure I would have lost my damn mind if I had been at that show.

  • What Patti said of Teena truly sums it up for me, hopefully now Teena will finally get the accolades she deserved in life although the current news coverage of her death is really sub par. I bet if a decent enough tribute album happens it will wake (white)America up to Teena's talent.

  • One of my favorite singers Teena Marie, you will be missed. Thank you for the beautiful music. Your music will be enjoyed forever, RIP angel.

  • I just got chills myself
