    ....god of composion....in 20 y. noone

  • @dmetlhed1 composition* :-D

  • Un-Holy shit!

  • Hands down, best melodic death metal album ever.

  • Comment removed

  • The violin is so beautiful. Love it.

  • I believe their best record!

  • So melodic, I guess the composer of that absolutely listens to classics.

  • this song is pure technical death, you nubs, \m/

  • Is that violin piece at the end a seperate piece, or made for this song?

  • The violin part is fucking awesome.

  • Det røde, -det kan vi ikke lide når bassen er lav.

  • i just heard someone say slaughter of the soul was the only album ATG should have done. what an idiot. that was always my least favorite one.

  • @yopeterman they're both masterpieces. i only own the red in the sky is ours but slaughter is fucking great as well as the other 2 at the gates albums.

  • @chiaromontestephen yea i love it, its just my least favorite.

  • This is AT THE GATES at their finest!!!! Fucking A!

  • At The Gates = Way ahead of their time.

  • How do you guys deal with the vocals? The mid-range yelling thing is so annoying to me but somehow I don't at all mind 3 inches of blood nor Demilich.

  • Holy fucking shit, I have absolutely no culture as I can't be 100% sure what instrument it is that's coming out of the rain, but it's definitely a badass one

  • Ceremonial Oath's first album was closer to this than any other gothenburg band... Eucharist [from another area] were also a tad similar to this though in A Velvet Creation... good stuff... check out the band called Crystal Age also reminiscent of TRITSIO era ATG in production and experimentation

  • I don't get how the musicians don't like this album - but that's their best CD!! Original, complicated riffs, unique ideas. Brilliant!

  • Check out my cover of this - i would post the link, but youtube won't let me, and it doesn't include it in choices for video response because it's fucking stupid but look in my videos and tell me what u think

  • This is like Dethklok level death metal, right here

  • @115madmax Get out.

  • @ProkreatedThrash relax, i know they're made up, its just a joke cause they're so hardcore

  • lol theres an inflames video in the "suggestions"

  • Awesome violin...

  • Does any have any idea what the heck that is on the cover?

  • @TruthSufferage It's the hand of At the Gates' guitar player

  • Sounds like someone's getting tortured...

    Awesome stuff.

  • to the anti in flames fraction, did you ever listen to upon an oaken throne, starforsaken or anything?

    fuck the NEW in flames!

  • @Yabupunker Take this life is one of their best songs, brutal, melodic death metal

  • fuck in flames this shit is pure

  • fuck in flames this shit is pure

  • Lets be honest. In Flames, especially through the Jester Race, has defined the genre. Whether At The Gates did a better job or not is not something we should judge. They are both amazing musicians.

  • I think people should refrain from calling this album "melodic death metal". Of course in reality, no other album is more "melodic death metal" than this album, however nowadays that term carries all the wrong connotations (e.g crap like In Flames). When I say that no other album is more "melodic death metal" than this album, I mean that this album really is pure death metal, while leaning heavily on a melodic approach to songwriting.

  • @mjonas10 I never heard any death metal in In Flames , if I had to describe their music - its some sort of extreme melodic power metal.

  • @Metalmania84 In Flames nowadays is "Experimental speed-pop metal"

  • @Metalmania84 Then i suppose you havent heard Lunar strain/The jester race/Whoracle with IF? Watch the lunar strain version of behind space. Kinda similar to this, but better

  • @Leewander Sure I've heard it. I don't hear anything in there to do with death metal though. Lunar Strain is some sort of confused mix of extreme, power and, of course, an unhealthy dose of Iron Maiden. If you hear death metal in there, okay.

  • @Metalmania84 in flames is the definition of gothenburg metal with DT (the swedish melo death) and at the gates these 3 are the pioneers at the gates have the ''death'' thing more than the other 2

  • @giorgos93 At the gates, Dissection and Eucharist are the 3 that pioneered the Gothenburg melodic metal. In flames and DT were spawned later.

In flames founder was playing in a metal band Ceremonial Oath before he got serious with In Flames around '93. DT members were in a Thrash band Septic Broiler before DT got going as well. DT's first demo is pretty standard death metal. Both, the In Flames and DT first albums were influenced by ATG, who already started the whole melodic thing.

  • @Metalmania84 in flames where formed in 90 and dissection is melo black dude .Well anyway all the bands we mentioned are rly nc eucharist too . And trying to find who pioneered aint so important just enjoy the music which has pure feeling //melo death/gothenburg metal\\

  • @giorgos93 In Flames did form in 90, but it was just a cover band. Jesper got serious with the band around '93 when In Flames recorded their demo.

You're right, enjoy the music you like. I try not to do the annoying genre arguments, just to me In Flames never sounded anything like death metal, lol.

  • @Metalmania84 i want to thank you for introducing me to this great album. i bought the cd. i love it. thanks for posting slaughter of the soul too.

  • Dark Tranquillity's skydancer beats everyone including carcass' heartwork

  • @Metalmania84 You totally forgot to mention Desultory. They where even before Eucharist and also released melodeath before Eucharist.

  • @mjonas10 I think I understand your point actually. Are you trying to say, that they are not Melodic death, but instead, death metal with a lil emphasis on melody? If so, than I agree. It's too bad melo deah aint so great anymore. It seems like a lot of them try to copy the Bodom formula instead of trying something new.

  • @mjonas10 Old In Flames is pretty good melodic death metal, like Jester Race and Colony, or even Lunar Strain. Not as progressive and intense as At the Gates, but it's still melodic death. Since Clayman they've gone towards a more mainstream approach and it's kind of sad even though that's what got me into them in the first place.

I have all the albums except this one now, this will be my next purchase! \m/

  • I wouldn't say "Metalcore" (If Metalcore sounded like this it'd be good! And not generic, commercial shit) But the hardcore/punk influence is there.

But, of course, what metal sub-genre isn't influenced, in some way, by punk? Except maybe Doom Metal.

  • SWEDEN. PUNK,HARDCORE,CRUST,DEATH METAL, PROGRESIVO, DOOM.ETC...

  • The sky used to be purple. But now since the red in the sky is ours, the sky is blue instead of purple.

  • Imo this album is more like primitive melodic death metal still in development. I love this album it's legendary! \m/

  • no matter metalcore or whatever....this song totally awesome...thank for sharing...

  • am i the only one who loves all of ATG albums? I think SOTS was masterpiece as well as all their previous albums but TSD was the best.

  • @Haloman777 i agree. i fuckin love TSD. usually im bored of music after i heard it 100 times. but not AtG. cant get enough of them. thats why i think theyre the best metall band ever since now

  • The ending to this song is unbelievably sad... this violin music like the song above worlds ruins.

  • If your worst nightmare could be described in music, it wound sound like this album. It's just so somber, evil, dark and sinister. Way better than those melodic death metal bands that recycle every Iron Maiden riff.

  • @calastiur hey man, you ever listen to Iannis Xenakis? He's a composer that made nightmare-ish music. Every metalhead should listen to him at least once IMO. There was also another composer Glenn Branca who made a symphony of the Earth dying, called Ascension, I believe. I just think it's fascinating that there are educated people who make death music while others don't consider this real music.

  • @EricNos24 NO I haven't heard of that band and I will check them out. Thank you!

  • The band every shitty metalcore band rips off.

  • @RiskyMcD how do metalcore bands rip off At the gates?

  • @atokad234 You can't really hear it on this album, but listen to slaughter of the soul.

  • @atokad234 4 words: Slaughter of the Soul.

  • @RiskyMcD what an stupid comment, im agrre with @igotwoodhaha, this is more closer to balck metal than metal core, stupid ignorant, that's the reason of my hate to this new people who listen to the extreme metal after the 2000 year at the actuality (2011), they dont really aprreciate the old school metal, but let me tell you something noob... the best epoche was in the 90's!, the best death metal and black metal discs are in the 90 years!!!

  • @Goremaggedon He meant that metalcore ripped off of At the Gates, not that ATG was metalcore. It's obviously not metalcore.

  • Metalcore pwns anyway

  • @NightRanger77 No it doesn't...

  • @MrCatFetish Your opinion!

  • @NightRanger77

    metalcore is juvenile

  • LMAO this is closer to Black Metal than Metalcore...idiot.

  • @igotwoodhaha Weren't they the grindcore fathers of melodeath?

  • @LaMagra70 Napalm Death is the father of grind

  • @igotwoodhaha

actually its closer to early death metal just like Hyposcrisy's debut IMO

  • @igotwoodhaha ..it's death metal genius...

  • @igotwoodhaha straight melodic death metal... inbred.

  • @igotwoodhaha Dude this is death metal, far from black metal. YOu are making ignorant assumptions. You probably play Metalcore, cool, lame, just lame dude. RiskyMcD was referring to Slaughter of the Soul if I'm not mistaken, and how every Metalcore band rips them off, or takes the influence and makes it Deathcore, or MEtalcore, or Gaycore.

  • the best song of at the gates!

  • It's crazy how much this band changed throughout their career.

  • If I were ever to direct a horror movie, this song would play during the opening credits.

  • By far their best album. Should be re-recorded with an orchestra.

  • They are the Godfathers of a new Swedish feeling taking distance with Entombed and the down tuned typical sound.

The second wave with Afflicted too!

  • i just remade the only tab on the internet for this and put it all in order so you can go along with the song since the order of riffs isn't the simplest... does anyone want it?

  • I think "The Seasons To Come" should be put apart from the title opener song because it pisses me off when I want the first song on repeat and always get this fucking violin. Don't get me wrong, I love the instrumental but still I think it should be there as a separate track.

  • YEAAAAAAAA!!!!

  • can anyone list some other great melodic and/or death metal bands?please and thanks

  • Listen to Carcass, their album "Heartwork" makes a supreme combo with AtG's "Slaughter of the Soul"

  • dark tranquility

    the black dahlia murder

    amon amarth

  • @RedBlood1994 Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Within Y and for real death metal Death :)

  • @Shagthegoat thank you for saying death. few give them credit but they are indeed one of the pioneers of melodeath although i would stick say that was their genre

  • Great Music..i bought this on release :)

  • Comment removed

  • i wish i had started listening to at the gates when i was younger

  • me too

  • ouch, that's harsh.

  • @Metalmania84 but its true

  • @arrestedshrimp At the Gates is as metal as it gets, there's nothing hardcore about it.

  • @Metalmania84 they were one of the main bands that influenced metalcore

  • @arrestedshrimp Yes, we all know that, metalcore bands are raping At the Gates sound mercilessly, but that doesn't make At the Gates metalcore.

  • @Metalmania84 i never said they were

  • @arrestedshrimp Looking back at your first comment, it sure seems like you said they were.

  • You are way off with that statement. This is nothing more than oldskool death metal from early 90's.

  • not quite but a major influence that's for sure

  • @MorningShot4

Maybe aesthetically, but everything's too well-put-together to be like metalcore. Metalcore is a lot more rockish than metal.

  • @MrHaufniensis

    No......just no.

  • I just love how the song starts with the drumming and then Thomas yells like an insane man. His shrieks sound really sick here. The whole album is quite technical, but depressive, morbid and bleak at the same time. The violins really fit well.

  • :17 - :19

    sounds like hes yelling

    QUE PASOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!

  • This fucking slaughters Slaughter of the Soul.

  • @unconditionalmalice i don't know about that dude. that is a bold statement to make. slaughter of the soul is one of the greatest metal albums ever. the red in the sky is ours is fucking awesome though.

  • @unconditionalmalice And kids this is the only true..

  • @unconditionalmalice while slaughter was a good album, the red in the sky destroys it no doubt. Slaughter is more accessible to people who don't know shit

  • This song rules

  • Violin FTW

  • The outro kinda reminds me of the outro to 'Miasma' by BDM except this one is way too long.

Sucks it's taken me so long to get into At the Gates older albums.

  • I disagree i think it fits the lyrics quite well.

  • It fits the lyrics, sure, but it's still amelodic screaming(that's actually a fact not an opinion). My hate for it is an opinion.

  • like the most vocals in extrem metal, you shure have to "learn to like it", but that's more than worth it

  • thats because the singing isnt supposed to the melody, the guitars are.

The singing is more of a type of percussion

  • That's why I don't like rap either.

  • i never thought of the vocals like that, but you do have a very good point

  • You're a fucking idiot. Mainly because you try to diss one of my favorite bands. And you cant even spell inarticulate. Whatever the fuck you used isnt a fucking word.

  • Why exactly would I be frustrated?

And it's a bit weird to wink at me when ur angry.

  • I could tell you the very same thing.

  • kickass song with an amazing outro!

  • Love all AtG albums. This is WONDERFUL.

  • MASTERPIECE! \m/

  • fucking awesome, love the ending

    \m/

  • The violin part FTW.

  • HUNGER THE WORD OF WOLVES!!!

    \M/

  • \m/

  • this album is genius...it's almost a good thing they sold out, otherwise I might have never gotten into it. what other bands are this creative/musically complex/sick as hell?

  • A more accesible sound doesnt mean selling out....... Atg forever \m/

  • @NVP12345

    nothing is this good bro.

your only choice is to surpass them yourself if you have the talent/balls.

  • What the fuck happened to these guys, everything else I've ever heard from these guys is like Fucking Hannah Montana compared to this. I love the strings, it's like something off Masters of Reality by Black Sabbath.

  • they're newer material is much more organized, more intricate

bears more resemblance to modern metal than old school black

personally, I don't care for the screamy lyrics, but the instrumental parts are top notch, and the violin soliloquy tops it all of

  • wow. . . diffrent. . .

  • Thanks for uploading this classic \m/

  • You're welcome \m/

  • \m/

  • \m/

  • \m/\m/

  • \m/

  • \m/

  • one more horn, haha

    --> \m/
