Yea you can, but sometimes it's nice for gameplay,since it signals certain mechanics, but it is of course not required to play the game.

You can buy it on Steam for $5 or something I think. It's pretty cheap, and what it does is it simply takes any piece of music and makes it into a "race track", like shown in the video.
