None of this is easy. It's only easy to watch. Imagine all the hard work to get to this point. Given her height, I think she did some incredible things with her career, as far as it went.
@lostlyrarose its rated a D and is really hard so idk wtf you are talking about just because there isen't fifty flips and twist doesn't mean the routine isen't difficult
@luv4cookie1 I think the scoring was real weird at this olympics, because the start values were the same, no matter if the dismount was a double tuck or a double layout... I just think if she had been able to do a full-in, she could have been a medal contender on bars.
i disagree. she upgraded from 91 which is why this set won silver at the 92 Worlds in Paris. that dismount done in layed out position here is more difficult that u get credit 4.
oh i just thought compared to the other dismounts the athelets did, that this was fairly easy, and i just thought that to me its difficutly level wasent so strong, that she would of stuck it sorry if i offended you or something, im just not a betty okino fan
ok cool, i acually am kind of starting to like betty because i just see her form as flawless, like shannon miller's. it is really nice, but i just think that she is pretty tall for a gymnast dont you think?
Yeah she might have medaled in the AA at the 91 Worlds had she done this dismount instead. Sadly she wasnt even a remote contender for the AA here, too much ground lost to others with the injury layoff.
Shoot thru front half at that time was considered weak. The top gymnasts were doing double flyaways. Keep in mind shushunova did 1/2 in 1/2 out in 1986. Okino was really a one hit wonder: Beam.
I'd have to disagree about the one hit wonder. Betty was great on every event and was capable of much more difficulty than she threw in Barcelona. A double tuck was worth the same as the dismount she's throwing here and if you've ever done both of them, you know the free hip front 1/2 is more difficult. Not many gymnasts competed in any Olympics with the amount of injuries Okino had.
Betty's floor??? She opened with a double pike--other gymnasts were ending with a double pike (Dianne Durham--83 national champ--had more difficult tumbling, so did MLR). If a shoot thru front 1/2 is so difficult (more difficult than a double fly), why aren't gymnast still doing it? Keep in mind, at world's a year earlier, she only dismounted with a front with 1/2. One has to wonder why some injuries may occur--is it matter of accident or a matter of technique?
Before she got injured in '91 she did a full-in mount on floor. I'm not saying she was tops on the team, but that she upgraded to a more difficult dismount on bars. Not all injuries are due to bad technique. Some bodies are just built a little different and not able to stand all the pounding. If you can't understand that then there's no contest to this discussion or a need to carry on further.
"If a shoot thru front 1/2 is so difficult (more difficult than a double fly), why aren't gymnast still doing it?"
A FHF1/2 is still a D (layout) or C (pike). It may be an easier D than a double layout (Dtuck and Dpike are B and C) but learning a whole different technique is possibly less worth it than simply trying to upgrade from a flyway.

that dismount is rated D.. it is not easy at all.. you must be confusing it with the tucked version which is significantly easier.
