actually...the U.S took advantage of a new, weak nation full of bitter infighting by self serving politicians and pulled a "weapons of mass destruction" or "guf of TOnkin" and forced Mexico to cedehalf their territory. THey did pay for the land...at a fraction of what it was worth. It was millions of dollars because Mexico ceded a LOT of land, but the total amount paid for acre, and the untold wealth the U.S subsequently extracted from the land, shows what the U.S did was robbery.
