There's so much more they could have done with this. This could have been a movie like "A Beautiful Mind" meets "Twelve Monkeys" with a meta-fictional twist tor some shit (in some ways I feel that both movies above are somewhat similiar to VALIS's plot i.e. schizoids, time shifts and conspiracy etc)...but they seemed to have turned into a "A Beautiful...piece of MONKEY'S ASS". Ok, the budget is dire and it, but fuck me some of the acting from what I can see in that trailer is terrible lol.
I've been in love with Philip K. Dick's work since high school, but this adaptation looks like crap. The acting and mise-en-scene's amateurish, the titles look like something out of Windows Movie Maker and the F/X aren't realistic enough to be convincing or stylized enough to be interesting. All in all, it looks like that godawful 'Atlas Shrugged' movie from a few months back.
VALIS and the pink light shot at Horselover Fat, or Nicholas Brady in this instance... but all in all, they're the same person... the recurring theme of Roman times superimposed over our timeline, the tyrant Ferris F. Freemont, the Fappers... And i just started reading VALIS again last night. I sure hope this turns out to be a good adaptation.
this is a really ghetto trailer....the actual shots from the movie look fine (love Katheryn Winnick) but whoever produced the actual trailer did an awful job.
Disney wants to make a film from PKD's "King of the Elves" story too. Hollywood wants to make a movie from "Flow my Tears, the Policeman Said", "Ubik" and Ridley will work on the "Man in the High Castle". I think, for the coming years, we will see a lot of novel from Dick in the cinema, as a movie. It's very good, because he's my favourite author.
Can't wait to see the whole thing, but for now looks like the best adaptation of a PKD book as of yet.
I hope some previews of Ridley Scotts "Man in the High Castle" will be shown to us soon too.
Everybody should buy a copy when it is released on Oct. 7th this year. We need to finance these independent film-makers, I heard they bought the rights to "VALIS" and "Flow My Tears" as well.
i hope this will be more blade runner or scanner darkly. can't tell much from trailers ever.
i hope its not like the other 8 or so films based on PKD's work.

@eyesofpicasso
I think the owl in daylight project has been dead for a couple years. Couldn't get funding or something.

I fear the reason the film hasn't been released yet is that it's as good as it looks... cos it looks totally shit.

i loved the book and this might be a good interpretation even though it appears to have the production quality of a syfy channel movie

I just saw this preview tonight at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle—Nice job to all involved and I thought the music was terrific.

it's weird that Alanis stars in the lead role yet she's in the trailer for all but 2 seconds

This looks good, but was it made for SyFy? It could use a little more polish.
SillySantaHat 11 months ago
@SillySantaHat This story deserves a higher budget, that's for sure. Cool that Alanis is involved, though.
