  • A joy to listen to.

  • 6 people don't understand ANYTHING about good music!

  • Matt appeared at the Legion in Fargo, ND in the early 70's with Bobby & Doris Buster.

(The Dynosonic's) What a Showstopper! Who knew? Now I know I have to purchase the "Blues Brothers" for sure!

  • piano make the crashing windows sound....kkkkkkkkkkkk

  • at 0:02 i heard the sound of crashing windows

  • My 9-year-old son and I were sitting next to Matt Guitar Murphy on a plane from Miami to New York last month. He told us he was in the movie "Blues Brothers", but I didn't know until I googled him, that he was so well known. He is a really nice guy.

  • @bazookajoemo -saw him in Syracuse in late 70's - rocked the house! wish he'd tour more now.

  • Hooray! Matt used to play alot in my hometown...

  • I saw Matt playing at Winterland in S.F. when he was in the James Cotton Band. I got to see them a few times, that Band was Bad Ass and always blew the roof off.

  • This is Matt before Jake & Elwood led him astray!

  • he plays so clean. you could see les paul cut it....in the same year! know what i mean?

  • This is great quality!

  • wow!! those fingers!!! how easily thet are mooving!! (not at all like me... :/ )

  • Damn!!!!!

  • Anybody knows what happened with Billy Stepney? Any whereabouts? Is he still alive? and after this, what came to him? I'd be grateful for any info about him. Thanks

  • This is awesome!

I wish there was a recording of this without the guitar. It would have been an awesome piano boogie.

  • This is awesome!

  • I definitly love it!

  • brillantissimo!! cela nous change des "nouvelles stars d'aujourd'hui"

  • oooohhhh this is a sweet song. i swear if i had a girl i would dance all night to this song xD xD

  • scale is g major 7

  • bill stepney on drums...memphis slim on piano willie dixon on bass

  • It's In The key Of "A" He Uses The "A" Blues Scale -ACDE-flat -E GA ,and "A" Major Minor Scales.

  • I hate to correct you SunnyRhoades9 but the song is in the Key of G. He's using blues scales and some chromatic approaches. Check it out with your guitar and hear the chords are G-C-D7 or all 7ths/9th chords can be played as well.

  • its in the Key of G friend =)

  • genius

  • does anyone knows what scales he uses?

    would help me a lot.

    thanks

  • He's using primarily the G minor Pentatonic Scale. G-Bb-C-D-F

  • can anyone tell me who the drummer is?

  • I'm just guessing - Billy Stepney?

  • Is it not Freddy Below? Stunning either way!

  • @drboogie8 your guess is right, I happen to have this recording on a special dvd an the credits for this recording are the following:

    Matt's Guitar Boogie (1963)

    Memphis Slim: Piano

    Matt "Guitar" Murphy: Guitar

    Bill Stepney: Drums

    Regards :)

  • @drboogie8 yeah, he is.

  • The drummer is Bill Stepney.

  • is he still alive?

  • yep he's 80

  • George Benson eat your heart out!!!

  • Yabba Dabba Doo!

  • Superb. A master class in session.

  • I watched this twice just to make sure... Did you notice, kids? NO BASS. It was all the piano player's left hand... and on acoustic yet. Awesome.

  • Brillant!

  • the original blues brothers rock. and thats because Memphis Slim liked that sped up ragtime feel.

  • i like this version a lot; a slower tempo version w/ M.Slim, W.Dixon & B. Stepney was on my irst blues record purchase (40 years ago), BLUES JAM, still one of my all time favorite albums (JOYS 177)

  • Can somebody help me? thanks!

I listened to this song many years ago. It was in 45 disco about '70. the song was played with electric guitar and faster. I remembered when the assolo plays all instruments stop.

Please tell me where I can but this song.

    Thank you very much.

  • You're probably thinking about Chuck Berry's Guitar Boogie, or The Yardbirds Jeff's Boogie

  • The real Guitar Slim (Eddie Jones) Cd, The Legends of specialty Series Guitar Slim: Sufferin' Mind. Specialty Records.

Google it. The lyrics to this is really something! I was once married to GS's son, Rodney Armstrong (aka) Guitar Slim Jr. NOLA grammy-nonimated musician, he the jr. recently did Jazz-Fest NOLA. For the life of me, I'll never understand why he NEVER plays any of his dad's songs. If I get the chance, I'll show this M.Slim version to him. Gail 901 650 4719

  • Blue Brothers -Matt"Guitar" Murphy -Aretha's husband in the movie ~ a very cool character.

  • Never heard of him as many time as B.B. King and many others which clearly means that He is underrated compared to rest of them.

  • It's funny to see that even at this time, they made several takes. Note that at 1'38 the microphone on the drums is not at the same place that on the top view (1'47)...

  • That was probably the most beautiful and delicate blues playing Ive ever seen

  • along with several BB King numbers

  • Wow, this guy rocks.

  • Joe Louis Walker told me he's not playing no more after his stroke

  • mitico

  • What guitar is Matt playing there ?

  • It's a Gibson ES-345. Matt is a very underrated player...I remember seeing him at BLUES ETCETERA in Chigago -and being thoroughly impressed

  • One of the most influential guitarists of all time. Chuck Berry used Matt alot on some of his trickiest recordings and did some great solos.

  • Gibson ES-345 ...

  • Wow! Here too...

  • Hi, excuse me but i'm not an expert in blues music. What is the name of this song ?

  • This is called "Matts Guitar Boogie". He did an updated version of this tune on his 1990 CD called "Way Down South" (superb CD. Matts best infact in recent yrs)

  • VERY underrated guitar player.

  • It's actually an ES-345. He's using one of the special vari-tone settings to get that tone.

  • cool! thanks for the correction!

  • This is why they call him Matt'Guitar'Murphy, wish i could play with him just for one minute.

  • dig the tone of that 335! wow man!!

  • If you ever want to hear Matt at his best then try the Memphis Slim "At The Gate Of Horn" CD.(from the late 50s or early 60s) Murphy's tone on this album in totally unique and sends shivers up your spine.

  • WOW! Awesome
