It's not about hits at all. Also, the over dub, its not like its just drums, guitar and vocals on their recordings. They use pianos, synths, organs, bass, among other things.

what i like about there first album so much is it sounds real raw, and more garage rock. jack even said he liked the first album the best, for it was raw and they sounded angry, and you could feel the energy they put into the songs.
