  • @scskowron latic acid is what cause muscle soreness and stiffness. You can transfer the latic acid to another muscle aslo by having a steady cool down i.e treadmill will help break down the lactic acid. And dont argue I know what im on about Ive been thought sports science for 3 years.

It's an old myth that has been disproven and nobody actually believes it anymore. Lactic acid leaves the body within an horu regardless what activity you do. So Mr. Sport Science, what sort of actual sport experience in this area do you have?

    1) The bar moves in a straight line up and down, as you can see, that's totally impossible given the angle on the smith machine track bar

    2) Your toes point outward, not straight forward, because the latter...

  • Smith machine is unnecessary for squats. Yes it's safer because it's not a free bar. However, you shouldn't be squatting any weight whatsoever if you cannot perform a bodyweight squat.

    First, you bring your head up (as most do) when you stand up. You want to keep your neck and spine in neutral alignment because you risk injury by raising your head like that on the way up due to all of the pressure on your back.

    Second, your depth actually looks pretty good, though there's no need to go below parallel.

    Third, ditch the pad.

    And lastly, ditch the smith machine. You should probably be using a little less weight to do it unassisted.

  • Been into bodybuilding for seven years now and know the free weight squat is top dogg. But just not for me. On smith machine I get more range of motion. Better pumps. And no lower back pain. For me its a better mass builder than freeweight squats.

  • @nickallah When you are born, you are born with every muscle fiber you will have through out your life. You do not gain more. Muscles swell to become larger. A muscle cell, as with every other cell in the body is comprised of 70-90% water, or (extracellular fluid). When a muscle grow its from more fluid being pumped in. Not blood. The blood capillaries do not enter the muscle cell. They run along side of it. The protein you ingest either gets used, discarded or stored as fat in liver or kidneys

  • @nickallah No, What im saying is you muscles are pumped with extracellular fluid, not blood. And through working out, the muscles DO NOT tear and "regenerate" They swell like a sponge or balloon. If you rip/tear a muscle your gonna be in a lot of pain. It takes ALOT for a muscle to tear/rip. As for sources of information goes, I go to school for physical therapy and my dad is a doctor. SO maybe you should check your sources and stop listening to all the gym rats.

  • Eh smith machine is booo!!! barbell is YAY!!! The one thing that got me was, "walking the treadmill helps get rid of lactic acid after a hard workout"... False info pal... The only thing that "gets rid" of lactic acid is OXYGEN! Plus, lactic acid is removed from the muscle cells within an hour after a workout and converted back into lactate. The pain in the muscles 2 days or so later is micro tares. If these tares are bad enough, It will heal as scare tissue, thus becoming less flexible.

  • @JayDee98765 no, by creating a separation between the back and the bar, it requires that the back angle changes be different in order to keep the bar centered over the feet. it DOES change the mechanics. just practice creating tightness in the upper back and you won't need the pad.

  • @Egendomlighet Oh I see, well, my quadriceps, hams and glutes are growing so I think i'll stick to this method. I used to use just the barbell without a pad, but I dont honestly see any 'training gains' from using the pad, so I just started using the pad.

  • @JayDee98765 And you're talking about lifting mechanics in terms of purely muscle size im assuming, but my training goals are different, in my muai thai training, bigger legs are not going to be stronger legs, and I have noticed that a pad or no pad makes no difference in terms of stronger legs. Its hard to explain, but kicking strength is different from regular squat strength. 

  • @JayDee98765 what on earth gave you the impression that i was talking about size? stronger legs are stronger legs, period, no matter the size and no matter the activity, and a squat builds leg strength better than any exercise, including this silly smith machine "squat". the strength built in this way can easily be converted into power for other athletic activities with sport-specific technique training.
