@dXMETRIXb The first boot is always going to be the slowest. It's gotta start all the hardware, and boot into the OS for the first time, so it wont 'recognize' any of it.

i am so sick of this design by apple... the black and aluminum is getting old. What ever happened to the classic white look of apple products. I miss the old apple!!!! I think they need to redesign this years imac completely over because this design has been on the market for a year and the previous gen looked very similar and they have not changed in three years. Not to rain on your parade... but you could have purchased a (baseline) i5 Quad-core for about 300 dollars more than the 27-inch 3.06 Dual-core! If your not kicking yourself in the rear end now, you will be in about 2 years. On the flip side, you could have purchased the (baseline) 21.5-inch 3.06 for about a grand less than the machine you purchased. Better luck next time, bro!

The i7 processor is absolutely worth it, it's leaps and bounds beyond the dual cores, and a significant gain over the i5. Buy the extra 4g of ram on a third party website, and save yourself 100+ dollars. Install it yourself, the bottom has a panel that's unscrewed to reveal the ram bays.

The i7 quadcore one can get up to 3.4ghz, the standard clock for the i7 is 2.8 and then the turbo function boost it to 3.4 if needed, that and hyperthreading will make the i7 iMac really fast ;)
