  • @ArckinKnight -.-

  • timpani and Sax should be louder.

  • @ArckinKnight What a crazy comment. How can the sax be louder? There isn't even a sax playing. This is a brass band.

  • I play cornet player in a youth band, and it's not always about which instrument is better sounding, it's sbout the player her/him self and how they play it, their own skill!

  • I'm glad one band can get it right my band can play this but always messes up at the same spot and the rest is fine

  • Our concert band wasn't NEARLY as good as this. Phenomenal! ! ! !

  • Heeeeeey I'm learning this song in band right now xD But we don't sound nearly as good

  • why do you just use cornets? trumpets in my opinion have a little bit better sound

  • @basketballcentral6 Trump[ets are not used in British Brass Bands. Cornets are more mellow and fit in with the rest of the instruments. Trumpets are brighter, I agree but they would really stick out in this kind of ensemble. Thanks for your interest.

  • @basketballcentral6 Because it’s a brass band...a proper brass band!

  • this is sooooo good. im a trombone player in band!!

  • We did this same arrangement last year for our band. It was awesome.

  • air cadets version sounds more military and sounds better

  • awwwwwwww 2:07 so pround of himself :D me too! good job

  • I only have one thing to say, it was a great cover, I liked it. However, the Trumpets horns should be higher more, like to the stand. Unless thats how they do it there, but other then that, it was very enjoyable.

  • @Wannabedrummer711 Glad you liked it. There aren't any tumpets in the band by the way, they are all cornets.

  • @bannan61 Sorry my mistake, well then cornets horns should be higher. Well from where Im from they are. Anyways, for my love of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and band. This entertained me a lot. Thanks for the upload.

  • Man, the trombone and sax section in my band suck lol. They're like as loud as the clarinets -.-. (My band has like 15-25 people and no drummer. >.>) Even the seniors (Around 6 people including me because not enough people signed up for grade 12 band so we had to merge grade 10-12 band together) can play louder than my whole class.

Right now we're learning this song but it sounds so terrible i don't even want to play it. Some grade 10s don't even play at all because they don't know the notes.

  • Music should not be about competition and whether "I'm better than you" or not. It should be (in my opinion): 1.) providing enjoyment and fulfilment. 2.) Telling a story (films etc.) / conveying an emotion... 3.) Providing comment on the situations of the day (as in protest songs etc.).

It's attitudes like yours that put people off taking up and enjoying music. People play and listen because they enjoy. If people already involved have hifalutin opinions, that's a complete turn-off!

  • i love this song and im doing it at school on the timpani

  • i wish our band did this it would be cool

  • pretty good the brass section was strong and one of the percussionist look over worked which is often good, but the tow trumpets at the back talked to much

  • WOOO go eupho XD

  • ery well playedd

  • no strings sadface...

yes i kno its brass BAND band has no strings but imho band<<<<<<<<orchestra

  • i used to play baritone for my school but i quit after 2 years and this year they played this song and i wish i kept playing haha this sounds really good played by bands :)

  • Im so glad i can hear this from you guys. You did great, where playing the same song in our 8th grade band at school. Clarinets are awessome btw =P

  • yeah! were playing this song in my class. go bass clarinet!!!!!!

  • we have to play this for my middle school band

i think that we might sound almost as good as this

  • Extremely talented cornet players

  • my band and i are playing this same song but we're in middle school. except we suck at it haha

  • KONGE!!

  • Nothing to be sorry about! Glad you enjoyed the video - that's the main thing.

  • Why were there adults mixed in, ya, I noticed. No brass band youth trombonists could play that good. Lol, thats coming from a youth trombonists. rofl copter goes swoosh!

I am hardly a youth trombone as I play in many symphonic pieces.

  • It's a youth band aged 12 to 18 with one adult. He's a teacher and often plays at these entertainment events. Obviously for contests he doesn't play because of the rules. There are no adults in the trombone section - that's Kate Wilson you can hear. She's a very good player who is taking up music professionally.

  • I am terribly sorry, I was on my no black and white monitor which has terrible resoulution. I can't tell a lizard from a leaf. I see now. I feel really bad now.

  • @joeywright28 not cool at all dude or dudet. I am a youth trombonist and I can play that. MAYBE EVEN BETTER. That's very offensive to me. Maybe to other youth trombonists. Easy on us.

  • realy good band here it has colour without woodwinds thats hard to find, i like drum corps style

  • again, this is a -brassband-. brassbands don't ever use woodwinds, else it wouldn't be a -brass-band.

besides, you don't need woodwinds to have colour in bands or orchestras 8)

  • is there any woodwinds????

    i can't hear any!

if there r there must only be 1 or 2!

  • No. It' s a brass band.

  • @bannan61 Lol you need to get some woodwinds in that band! i am sad to hear that you are missing out on some awesome woodwind talent =(

  • @spellcat1414 This is a brass band. We also have a wind band that obviously has woodwind as well. Search my site for Oldham Youth Wind Band to hear them. Thanks for your comments.

  • @bannan61 oh, brass band. thats cool, what instrument are you playing?

  • oi, learn your band type compositions before making a comment like that -_-

  • @risseven i know there is'nt any ciranets here but i still think its good

  • this movie had a big impact

  • half the time the conductor looks as if he is trying to fly away lol. man, i wish my brass band conductor would let us play pirates of the carribean. i am solo trumpet and it is sooooooooo boring. he only ever lets us play his compositions. he won't even let us play liberty bell march :(. sad times. well done btw, this sounds amazing. if only i had a time machiene and lived in oldham...

  • you could also come to Canada! Our brass band is playing this and we have done liberty too!

  • im going off to cry now

  • we have played that too but no1 filmed it :(

have you played gladiator thats good too

  • i wish our trumpets were that good!

    lol

  • They aren't tumpets, they are cornets. Thanks for your nice comments though.

  • yeah i figured tht out after i watched it again. we only ave one cornet...and he sucks..

    aha! great job.

  • This is a brilliant bit of playing! Not too sure about the conducting in places though . . .althogether a very good performance. I love playing this piece, though I'm convinced that from bar 117 it should go much faster . . .I wish we had a trombone line up like that!

  • I play cornet in a second section brass band going to the nation championships of great britain in harrogate 2008. I just watched another video performing this and it was awful. For a bunch of youngsters - especially cornets - this was fantastic cos it is quite a difficult piece to play and get to sound good. Well done you lot, keep it up!

  • cornets awesome i play the trumpet

  • I agree with the cornets but tbh im not a huge fan of trumpet not sure why im just not lol

  • i amnt coz i play the cornet

    its like a rivalry :L

  • the euphonium part on this is amazing!

    i love playing it

    x

  • so many girls...In my brassband there are only 3, and only 1 of them is younger (23) The rest is old...

  • soooooo powerful in this song its ok but in some parts not clear but other than that real good

  • Very good. This is a hard piece to play, and they did extremely well. Nice to see lots of girls on the front row cornets too. PSG xxx

  • I was there... AGAIN :D x.

  • beautiful cornets.

    great job.

one of the best performances i've seen so far.

  • Awesome, we played this exact arrangement when we were in middle school. Great job.

Is it different to play a cornet?

  • Eu sou musiko e nan gostei la muito do som.. E o bombo estava lá so pra Efeitar??

  • fantastic playing. real hard synchro part in middle played very well. lovely tone on the cornets. keep up the good work. loved it.

  • Why isnt the Soprano brighter?

  • They are cornets, not trumpets. British brass bands do not use trumpets. Maybe that's why it sounds that way to your ears.

  • played this with my school.. but at times the trumpets on here got a bit annoying.. that sort of in your face squaky(sp?) sound

  • my skools plays the same way i play trumpet

  • my band at my school playd the same version. i played the flute!

  • our band played the same version too

    haha.

    i played snare drum.

    its a very fun part

    and great music piece.

    the band that plays this

    is really good.

  • what school is this?

  • Oldham, near Manchester in England.

  • -_-''' Our school's band sucks compairing to this.. XD lol

  • last year in 6th grade my band played this song and we did rele good...and my band tho is like pretty BIG...

But anyways great song and great band they did rele good

  • You did this in 6th grade?! my band didn't get til 7th and only the 8th grade band performed it! T_T we're still waiting for the music teacher to give it back

  • why are the trumpets so short?

  • This is a brass band. They aren't trumpets, they are cornets.

  • there not trumpets there cornets

smaller version of the trumpets and much bigger too if you get to see one up close there huge and fat

  • This band is too good to be a 'youth' band...oh, also there is a lot of old people in there. What grade are you?

  • It's a youth band aged 12 to 18 with one "old bloke" on cornet. He's a teacher and often plays at these entertainment events. Obviously for contests he doesn't play because of the rules.

  • you have to admit, cornets are pretty old.

  • i just got done playing music this semester :( i have to play a final solo then im done this next year just played this song for my last time today

  • im playing that soon and im like the only trumpet player so its gonna be quite tough

  • you guys sound awesome. I'm impressed!

  • excellent trumpet players!....I wish we had some them like that =[

  • Thanks for your positive comment. By the way, this is a brass band and there are no trumpets in it. They are cornets.

  • Does that girl have a flugle horn? I want one so much! I love it!

  • My jazz band played this in elementary school along with another song from the movie.... yeah we had 3 guitars one bass drum 1 piano 1keyboard 1 organ 1 flute clarinet and trumpet and 2 saxophones we got a full crowd in the high school auditorium....u guys play it better tho im jealous :-S lol

  • whose arrangement is this? my 8th grade band is playing michael brown's arrangement and it is almost exactly like this. the only difference i noticed is the part between 2:54 and 3:30. that isn't included in the arrangement we play.

  • My school's playing this in a couple monthes. The trombone sounds so good!!! My band should stop making fun of our only trombone...

  • the one thing i can say about this song is that it sucks to play it when you are the only trumpet player in the band. But it is still awesome. And this is played well :)

  • this is where my band started, i think it might even be the exact same piece

  • billthemaxster: My band and I played this last year, and they started the same place mine did. You may have a diferent sheet of music, I'm sure there are many different pieces for Pirates of the Carribbean.

  • I cant wait till my school band plays this! this song rocks!

  • i know eh?

  • We play exactly the same in our Group in Germany (:

  • Okay I'm 14 and i play in my town band and we play this piece and it is very enjoyable to play and even better to listen to. And this is very good and it is a youth band but it does not seem to of started at the start of the piece. Wow i did not think that such a band existed in Oldham

  • The Oldham area is one of the hotbeds of British banding. Take a look at all the Whit Friday contest clips I've posted. As a teenager many years ago the LSSO came over to Castletown and played in the Villa Marina in Douglas. I have fond memories of this trip and the LSSO inspired the Isle of Man to form a youth orchestra (see their website).

  • My jr high band played this and i like this version but ours is a LOT longer nd great work to the first Cornet great solo

  • No offence, but the last section is supposed to go at around 200bpm. It does speed up eventually (but speeding up is not a sign of a good band).

  • I think thats bit harsh thismis a youth band and as a fellow youth band conductor as the guy in the video it is very difficult to keep control on kids as once they et the slightest bit of excitment they are gone. the point of youth bands is not to be perfect but to enjoy urself. Perfection is something that is gathered up over years it cant be thought. you would be seriously wrong to think it goes 200bpm it in fact states on bruce fraisers score that he wishes it to be played at 160bpm!

  • Well said that man from Ireland.

  • Yeah its a youth band. What range of ages are there? Because I play in two brilliant youth bands that have played pieces such as Vitae Aeturnum, Where Eagles Sing and Shine As The Light (the latter being the hardest one by far, or for euphoniums and second/1st cornets anyway.)

  • Just listened to it again and it is better than I remember it to be.

  • what they mean by youth is high schol

  • my sch band does MUCH better =)

  • I wish people would learn the difference between bands and the instruments used in them. Brass bands have Soprano cornets and cornets, a single flugel horn. Tenor horns, euphoniums, baritones, trombones, bass trombones, Eb and BBb basses and percusion.

  • Please bear in mind, Will, that many of the comments are from the USA. Americans (probably kids) even refer to symphonies, overtures and concertos as "songs" - take a look at some of the comments made on classical music.

  • Fair enough its just I get so annoyed when people call instruments by the wrong name. Trumpets and cornets are forgivable but how can anyone call a tuba a trumpet?

  • geezz dont be so mean to us americans lol jk nice band best i can frind on here

  • My band has two flugel horns

  • my band has four flugel horns

  • 4! seriously the most i've seen in a brass band is 2 lol. the isb and the Balck dyke only hae 1 if i recall correctly

  • it sounds better with string bands

  • trumpet in the front can ply good job cuz

  • These aren't trumpets. They are cornets.

  • p.s. wind band versions harder for 1st trumpet anyway!!! very gurd thooo i favourited it!!!

  • is it just me or do they talk alot whilst performin??? we r playin wind band version sooon wooop!!! best brass band piece eva tho is scooby doo bands just bort it!!! woop 2nd rossendale scout group band rules!!!!!

  • plz ignor this it was ma mates on my account

  • Good show but the little solo bits could have alot more quality......TO MANY SPLITS!!!!

  • fair enough

  • wow there are no woodwinds? i didn't think it was possible considering that brass instruments don't have a very large range

  • British (and European) brass bands do have a considerable range with soprano cornets at the very top down to tubas at the bottom. Brass bands are lyrical ensembles - they do not have trumpets but use the warmer tone of the cornet. Glad you like it.

  • What an ignorant thing to say.

  • WOOhOO!

  • Fair play! We've started playin that. Tis quite a blow!

  • It Must be Breath Taking XD

  • reminds me of when we played it in highschool awesome stuff.

  • oh wow. was it difficult? because our band is playing the EXACT same song. we just started it a day or so ago. and now that i know what its supposed to sound like...maybe we'll do good. :]] [[great job by the way!!]]

  • they played that very well!
