a trick is to get a hold of the plastic loop that holds the tag and stuffed toy together. kinda measure the weight vs. win on it too.

That's actually tricky, because the tongs don't grab the loops very well.

I've won at least 16 stuffed toys, but the claw machine I always go to will drag the items.
