  • is taking all of that out really necassery? and if i do take my car to a car shop where i live, will they know what to do to instll it for me? or will they do it different or the wrong way?.........im confused

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. Your instructions (along with those of JoeSchlubb's) helped me replace my radio in my 2004 Civic LX by myself. No way I would have tried it without your videos.

  • Thanks so much, Just to think that I had to remove the entire armrest made me hesitate to replace the car stereo , but after watching your video I realize my car is same model and would be much easier. excellent video , well explained. thanks again

  • Thanks man ill post a video in about a week of me doing this following your directions

  • Just wanted to say that this saved me a ton of time. I did it the old way prior and it took a good 30+ minutes to get to the head unit. Doing it this way was easily under 10 minutes. Great tip; thank you very much!

  • thank you

  • Thx for the vid post!!!!

  • Thanks a loads.. now let me redo my bathtub to get a new tool first.. ahhaha

  • This was very helpful when I needed to take off the cover to change the gear shift bulb. Thx

  • Thanks a ton for this video. It helped a ton and I had no problems doing the same thing to my car

  • Thank you so much for this very well explained video. My mechanic replaced my heater control panel in my 2003 Honda Civic EX, but did not reconnect my cigarette lighter, so my boyfriend and I used your video to assist us in fixing the issue. We didn't have a clue how to get to it until we saw your video. Well done :)

  • I installed radios in a lot of 2003 - 2005 civics, automatic and manual. Both videos explain well what to do. There is one little thing you did tho that I think is not necessary. Instead of removing the sides of the shifter area, you should remove the silver plastic plate and the shifter knob, which is a lot easier. You then put the shifter on the lower position to easily remove the whole central cover and put it back to park to be able to remove the key and work with the 12V safely. My 2 cents

  • thanks el quesoguapo lol this video was really helpful

  • ahh i have this car so its wayy easier for me lol thanks man!

  • THANK YOU for uploading!

I have that tool sitting in my tool box that I have never used on anything; but I will have to give it a try with the tape next time!

Also I tore my whole center console out to install some blue FD lights a few years ago; and it is neat to see how that front part comes apart EASIER! I am thinking about doing some more modifications to the car and your video will help make it MUCH easier! Thank you!

  • I have a 2002 civic. I didn't remove any of that. I removed the part with the cigar lighter without touching anything around the shifter.

  • The section you removed was held in place by the two screws that I removed at 4:19. If you didn't remove those, then it's likely that you broke off the plastic tabs when you removed it.

Of course, there may have been a design change between 2002 and 2004. In which case, you're right and I'm wrong.

  • @ElQuesoGuapo there was a design change. These steps aren't necessary in at least the '02 model. '02 doesn't have the spring loaded door in front of the shifter.

  • Thanks for the video. I have a civic 2003 and now I can change out the cup holder.

  • Your video helped me out so much taking apart the center console of my fiancee's honda. Thanks so much.

  • thank you so much for this video: i never installed one on a civic and this video really helped me save $200.00 bucks. Easy, just follow your instructions step by step

    once agian, thank you!!

  • THank god that you posted this

  • BTW, instead of using a 3-in-1 tool covered in tape I used a plastic card. Thanks for sharing where the bezels were.

  • Thanks Queso! I watched your video before installing my new stereo system and it helped make the install as smooth as possible.

  • Hey...nice video. Yeah, I too had that same issue with the two screws. Do not try to use a screwdriver. First off, you can't get a screw driver in there. Second, the factory has made them so tight, its hard to get them off with a screwdriver, you will strip the screw. Instead use a 8mm socket. Comes off much easier. Great job on the vid. Keep it up.

  • @MrAks10 Thanks. It's good to hear from people who have been helped by my videos. It makes the effort worthwhile.

  • takes a long time

  • Thank You!!!

  • Good video. have new pioneer. will install on free time.

  • Great Video I was trying to hook up an amp to my stock head unit and had zero idea on how to get to the wiring in the back. Thanks!

  • Thank you for demostration, I just replace my gear position indicator bulb

  • Awesome job! Thanks man. I guess some one was doing a similar job on my car and forgot to hook back the cigarette lighter. With the help of your video, now I hooked it back again.

  • I got a bit worried about doing this when I saw your finger was all bandaged up!

  • @TaylorJEke I did that while working in the wood shop, not on the Honda. I don't think I'll be posting a video called "How to safely use a chisel" anytime soon. There's 6 stitches under that bandage.

  • @ElQuesoGuapo Nice job man!

  • working on putting a system on my sister's car.

    Thanks man!!!!!!!

  • I'm finding it rather difficult to remove the two bolts/screws from the bottom of the cluster because there is barely enough space to fit screwdrivers and have enough leverage to remove them. I think removing the center counsel will actually make space for it.

  • @xclassxactx Use an 8mm wrench instead of a screwdriver.

  • @ElQuesoGuapo : Did you have to disconnect the battery to change the parts out?

  • @socalkid1050 The manual advises you to do so, but it's not necessary so long as you don't do anything dumb like short wires together.

It depends on what you're doing in there. If you plan on cutting and soldering wires, then you should disconnect the battery just in case. But for stereo installs, I always buy the adapter kit so that I don't have to hack up my car's wiring harness. I do the soldering at my workbench ahead of time and just plug it into the car.

  • @socalkid1050 : thanks! I am adding an ipod adapter to the rear of the stereo and wiring it through the dash to the bottom cup holders.. so I dont anticipate that the battery would need to be disconnected

  • awesome! thank you so much! I have an automatic and was trying to take out the center console and was having a lot of difficulty. This seems to be a lot easier of a way!
