  • Yay. I like his version of this song the best.

  • I am an American and I love Paul Robeson. However,my parents were also than some of my friends grandparents. He was very famous in the 30's & 40's;but Robeson was a devoted communist. Whereas everyone was selling out to capitalism & denoucing each other,he held firm. Moreover, he was against blacks fighting in WWII.He articularly argued that if America doesn't care about its own people, why should it care about Europe. The US government wanted to eradicate his legacy like they tried to destroy him

  • was featured on hit negro TV show "Adventures of Jungle John and Sahara Sal"

  • Song written by Jos. Stalin about 1923. "StaLIN was a gifted songwriter and an even more accomplished singer. His was a talent sorely missed by the world of culture."---Mao Tse Tung

  • @BrokenneckYgor Jos Stalin did not write "Shortenin Bread". I don't know about his song writing, but that was not one of them.

  • the way roberson sang shortenin bread takes me way back til when i was a small child. my late parents use to sing that to me all the time. it was so sothing. i remember sometimes not having anything to eat and they would use government surplus flour ,powdered eggs, powdered milk and butter to make something like shortenin bread.

  • @ginasosweet God bless you Gina! I am so glad you shared that! I trust your plate is full and you are so blessed.

  • Same here, in Turkey. Thanks!

  • Oh this is good, reminds me of Garfield as as well

"mammas little kitty cat eats a pizza, every time a pizza goes a passing by! Hey put on the sausage put on the cheese"

  • I asked my American friends what they thought of Paul Robeson - their reply was with one voice -

    "Never heard of him."

I grew up in a family that loved his voice - we had his 78s, & my parents had seen his films.

Spread the word - his message of real freedom is still relevant in his homeland.

  • Not just in his homeland, the whole world over. My thanks for your comments:)

  • @EbenezerIan123 A prophet is never recognised in his own land

  • Thank you I'm glad that I found another Robeson fan. I wish you well with your own singing.
