Thank you for uploading this remaining piece of what is the world's oldest known full length movie. I love that it is of Ned Kelly. I always think its a shame that so little remains of this footage. It would be fascinating to see how modern legend differs from the tale as told in a time when people would have remembered the events.

I can't believe how many people are slandering this clip without reading what it is. The clip is from 'The Story Of The Kelly Gang' - now recognized by UNESCO Memory of the World Register as the first full-length feature ever made. The first video tape recordings were made in 1951 - however the first 35mm film recordings date back to 1895.

@dafranx, supposedly it was in someones private collection and was hidden away and obviously not protected, but what a find. Just like Captain Cooks docking papers when he arrived back in England after discovering Australia. In an old museum a person put them behind a photo in a frame and when the place went bankrupt everything was auctioned off and the auctioneer found the docking papers. You just never know what people have until all the items are sorted out.

I remember seein this in grade Seven... they showed us this footage at this place in Canberra... it was real interesting... coz its like one of the oldest films in the Australian History or something.

because it is so old because it was made in 1906 it has all sticky stuff on the film and someone that had a piece of this film threw it in a dump. but someone found it and you can see it at the australian film and sound archive because there was a bit more of video than this and i recorded with my camera.

@BMF421 This film is probably the earliest film that was made in Australia, and it is a re-enactment of the arrest of Ed (Ned) Kelly! All Aussie kids are taught about this at primary school! The film was found a while back by pure accident, but, as no one at the time knew its' importance, it was not cared for and with age and mistreatment, the majority of it was ruined. But it is still a historical piece of footage! As it was he first acted "motion Picture" (before talkies were invented!)

Film has been around since the late 1800s. If you look around Youtube alone you can find short films from 1895.

I admire Kelly a lot.He was screwed over by a snitch,Aarron sherritt.The fuckin cops shot him in his unprotected legs.Ive seen potraits of redmond barry,they said it was done to flatter him,but he still looked fat and ugly.He was the same judge who convicted Kellys mother.Shouldnt that have been a conflict of interest?I cant belive he was only 25 when he died,

Original title; 'The Story of the Kelly Gang' (1906). The real armour of Joe Byrne (one of Kelly's gang) was used for this film. It's not the armour you see in the vid though.
