  • My mother has questioned my sexuality ever since i showed her a picture of me with this bridge in the backround. Should i show her me with the Castro neon lighted marquee behind me?

  • Holy fucking traffic in those years IT WAS!

  • My grandfather photographed the Golden Gate Bridge under construction during his visit to the US in 1936. I have the original negatives.

  • i would hate to be the construction worker who has to inspect and work on this bridge

  • 3:18 seconds into this movie I see my grandfather piloting one of the PBY planes flying over the bridge. It is the only film we have of him. He died a year later in an airplane accident off the coast of CA.

  • what was the date?

  • at that time the Golden Gate Bridge was a miracle built by mankind. The 20's and 30's really were a time of breakup

My Dad would be 88 - if in the picture of your Dad there is another guy younger than your Dad with a drum let me know! Great memories! I think San Franciscans carry the same joy of life through the generations...

  • The first time the Bridge was reopened to pedestrians after 911 I took my family to walk it. And one of the first dates with my wife was across this Bridge.

It is a national treasure. Thank you to the people who built it and maintain it.

  • My father was also there that day playing a drum!!! To this day - we are not sure where he got the drum...but we are all - 6 children - musically inclined!! He passed away years ago...he has a grandson he never met who was born on the anniversary of the bridge opening.....

  • @okcdoc That is really cool that your dad was there too. How funny, there are 6 of us too and we are so proud that he was at the bridge on opening day. We have pictures of him as a 19 year old, leaning against a friend, holding his trumpet and looking very inebriated on some S.F. street.

How wonderful that your dad's grandson was born on such a special anniversary. I'm sure your father is very proud of that.

My dad would have been 93 yesterday, Aug. 28th.

May they both Rest in Peace.

  • @SoCalGal52 r.i.p from il chicago

  • @lalexitol Thank you so much. He was a good man.

  • My father was there this day. He played trumpet with the marching band he was in from Santa Barbara, and they marched and played across the bridge. A huge honor for him. He also went into the city and got very drunk that night. I think we may have pictures. He was 19 years old. He passed away yesterday, August 11, 2010 at the age of 92. I hope you're playing trumpets with the angels dad. May you Rest in Peace.

  • All my life I heard that my grandparents walked across this bridge on opening day. I was hoping against hope that I could catch a glimpse of them on this video clip. Thank you for posting this.

  • COOL

  • Were the main cables orange back then? They look really light compared to the towers.

  • Marvellous achievement

  • I love those 1936 Kuncklehead Harley-Davidson 61ci. Police bikes. I spot two 1936-37 Plymouths with hydraulic brakes. Marvellous achievement ! The bridge aint bad neither , I love our new Ravenelle bridge in Charlestion, SC. What a bad ass for motorcycle crusing. Golden Gate is America's bridge !

  • How beautiful.

I'm completely in love with Golden Gate Bridge.

  • 1937 a day to never forget!!!

    SF I LOVE YOU!!!!

  • Amen 420 !

  • Wow how proud. What a parade. It's just amazing how on January 27th 2007 I put this bridge up for auction on ebay and made internet history.

  • @MiriamHO Shit.... you would like living there now.......Awesome city.

  • im gonna say 1930's looking at the cars / the old world war 1 battleships

  • You're right. The Golden Gate bridge was opened on May 27, 1937. Since this is a video of the Opening day, I'd have to say the video must date back to that day.

  • Anyone know what year this was taken?
