My mother has questioned my sexuality ever since i showed her a picture of me with this bridge in the backround. Should i show her me with the Castro neon lighted marquee behind me?
3:51 to 3:55 My father, dressed in black like a Vacaro is in the forground holding up the prop archway with the girls alongside. He was in High School at the time and lived in Mill Valley. We have a still of this.
RIP Dad. I wish I could have wished you a happy Father's Day this year
3:18 seconds into this movie I see my grandfather piloting one of the PBY planes flying over the bridge. It is the only film we have of him. He died a year later in an airplane accident off the coast of CA.
My Dad would be 88 - if in the picture of your Dad there is another guy younger than your Dad with a drum let me know! Great memories! I think San Franciscans carry the same joy of life through the generations...
The first time the Bridge was reopened to pedestrians after 911 I took my family to walk it. And one of the first dates with my wife was across this Bridge.
It is a national treasure. Thank you to the people who built it and maintain it.
My father was also there that day playing a drum!!! To this day - we are not sure where he got the drum...but we are all - 6 children - musically inclined!! He passed away years ago...he has a grandson he never met who was born on the anniversary of the bridge opening.....
@okcdoc That is really cool that your dad was there too. How funny, there are 6 of us too and we are so proud that he was at the bridge on opening day. We have pictures of him as a 19 year old, leaning against a friend, holding his trumpet and looking very inebriated on some S.F. street.
How wonderful that your dad's grandson was born on such a special anniversary. I'm sure your father is very proud of that.
My father was there this day. He played trumpet with the marching band he was in from Santa Barbara, and they marched and played across the bridge. A huge honor for him. He also went into the city and got very drunk that night. I think we may have pictures. He was 19 years old. He passed away yesterday, August 11, 2010 at the age of 92. I hope you're playing trumpets with the angels dad. May you Rest in Peace.
My Grandfather used to tell me about how he walked across the bridge on opening day with his dad and how people were shaking hands in the middle, like they were meeting Martians. Now I know what it looked like.
All my life I heard that my grandparents walked across this bridge on opening day. I was hoping against hope that I could catch a glimpse of them on this video clip. Thank you for posting this.
I love those 1936 Kuncklehead Harley-Davidson 61ci. Police bikes. I spot two 1936-37 Plymouths with hydraulic brakes. Marvellous achievement ! The bridge aint bad neither , I love our new Ravenelle bridge in Charlestion, SC. What a bad ass for motorcycle crusing. Golden Gate is America's bridge !
You're right. The Golden Gate bridge was opened on May 27, 1937. Since this is a video of the Opening day, I'd have to say the video must date back to that day.
Not very ultra rare anymore.
