I cant read a clear ball. i painted my ceiling with some really great purple, white, and some faux sparkley stuff and I could see images on my ceiling.. but I had to paint over it and move. Gorgeous mirror! I like to make my own divination devices though. It just helps me connect with them better. I study Dragon magick and my guardian helped me to break a dark spell using the eye of the dragon (scrying mirror) After you cast your circle go to each corner and call upon the elements to break the spell holding the mirror outword. Don't ask for any specific punishment, but ask that perfect justice be served in perfect love and perfect trust, for teaching, not punishment.
You don't have to be religious to use a scrying mirror. It's dark surface is akin to you closing your eyes and allowing images to form, like you do before you go to sleep. I am a lucid dreamer and use mine to enhance my free-dreaming before bedtime. When you are awake and see the images it is just fascinating how much detail is shown. Usually I just see random images, other places, people walking down streets, mundane things, but I believe it reflects the inner mind.
If it did not come polished you can do it several ways; although, some people leave it flat black. Find a lapidary store in the phone book that can polish it or get a cloth polishing wheel and put it on a drill, you will need a bar of polishing rouge compound too. You turn on the drill, press the wheel into the compound and then evenly polish the surface. Be careful, obsidian flakes around the edges of some rough pieces can cut you worse than a scalpel.
Be careful with the Mugwort tea, it shouldn't be ingested regularly. It's in the same family as wormwood, and contains many of the same chemicals within it. If you're gonig to drink mugwort tea for divination, use it sparingly. In addition, mix it with some peppermint, because it tastes like grass! :P
I'm sure everyone knows this but you can make a mirror for under ten bucks. buy a picture frame you like, take out the glass and lie it on newspapers. Spray paint one side of the glass black with non-glo paint. Let it dry. Put the glass back in the frame the painted side inside--in other words if you were going to hang the picture the painted side would be toward the wall. presto-black mirror. Hold it in lap, light candle, angle it so all you see is black depth-- stare, relax. good luck.
I think black mirrors are great. My experience is the trick is to experiment and get the lighting right--right for you. I've done crystal ball, too. I did find it had a more energetic presence than a mirror but was harder to light just right. Hey i have had some really far out experiences with scrying. I have not got a proper scrying mirror, i just use my normal one which is oblong. Still i first tried scrying with myself in view, i.e. staring at my own face. I got a lot of exterior trippy visuals but most noticeably i saw many different faces (completely not my face) some were monstrous and some were very feminine and beautiful (past lives perhaps) recently i don't see any faces like this. I think they've all been 'exploded'
I have tried the procedure you have mentioned and also other procedures given on Internet for black mirror scrying but I have not been successful.
I am only able to do black mirror scrying with a ritual/amal (Haziraat) and not able to do it without the ritual. Please explain how can I do it without the ritual.

I just got a new scyring mirror, and I find I really prefer it over the Crystal Ball...With the Black Mirror, I got images very quickly...I use it to bring up Past-Life information...You might want to ask your guides to help you see your past-lives. Fascinating stuff! I also use it for Spirit Guide communication, and Astral travel. :)
On a full moon take your mirror out side and leave it O'night to take in the Moon's energy.
Then cover the mirror with an altar cloth (your choice of colour). The next night,which will still be a Full Moon, create your sacred space and then perform your scying ritual and see if there's any difference in receiveing a stronger message/visualisation.
Is scrying scary? I'm a little afraid of seeing things I don't want to in the mirror..

This process is strange to me but,very interesting as well....
This could be done with just a 5/7 sized mirror without painting the surface..but using certain mystic oils or herbs..
A ritual must be first performed to extablish a connection with the spirits..
After wards,just anything is seen on the mirror by just asking...solutions to any problems in life..cure to any illness,secrets will be revealed..
Pls this method of yours is strange to me,but I will like to learn it....
