Nice video with a lens that is as light as a feather. That FF 5D Mark II doesn't hurt either. I have the same lens and for the price you can't beat it. Good bang for the buck. I use mine on a T3i I just bought. Of course I am working my way up to a FF camera and hoping to get the new 5D Mark (III ?), or whatever they call it, whenever it comes out. I hear pretty soon.
wow great video work, nice editing! do you shoot in Manual or recommend anything to get this look i.e. dialling in a manual WB 5600kday, 3200knight, 1/50, 24fps, ISOs in multiples of 160, Neutral colour profile, these seem the to be the tips i keep hearing but can you share some of your secrets?
@gladitsnotme I'd save your money a wee bit and purchase the EF 50mm 1.4 usm, Better build quality and better image quality, and of course more stops of light with better bokeh (back ground blur).
@gladitsnotme You're Welcome. Of course you could get the 1.2 L lens for that things costs a bomb, I've tried all and the 1.4 EF is the best for value of money.
As far as video goes, you can't get better than the 50mm 1.2 on a dslr, but for $47 I picked up the 50mm 1.8 to use on my 7d and the results are pretty close. There is no better value in the lens market considering the cheapest I've seen the 1.2 is about $1500. In Australia anyways...
WOW the quality is just superb considering the fact that the video went through the editing process, what editing software you used and what are the encoding settings you used, thanks and great video!
@Boodhunnilesh Thanks for the kind words. When i originally purchased my camera all I had was Imovie '09. I just imported into Imovie and exported at 720p HD.
The very last shot is my favorite shot of the Tampa skyline, especially with the horizontal space that the convention center adds to the composition. All in all, great video! :)
@mizfit32 I filmed that particular scene while the sun was setting. But had it been a night time shot I seriously doubt that I would have been able to get both the boat and Downtown buildings in focus at the same time. There would be to much distance between the 2 objects.
travis, what software did you use to edit your footage. I want one of these cameras, but the stories of trying to edit the DSLR HD has got me scared. Has the editing been an issue for you?
@TheWholeMatt Thanks man. The t2i is a wonderful camera. I've used it several times as a B-camera. I boosted the saturation on a couple of shots but that's about it.
AMAZING!! Really nicely exposed! brilliant balance, where these all manual settings? for the most part im using manual iso, and shutter speeds, but im not too clued up with the colour temperatures in white balance and picture settings. if you feel like sharing please reply! :D
Great video!!! Love the composition and editing!!! I love the fact that this video shows how great the quality actually is with the cheaper lens... It sold me on the camera!!! I have been looking for a video exactly like this! This video lets me know the quality is that great with the cheap lens.. and how much better will it be with a more expensive lens? I think the quality with a 80 dollar lens is quite superb!!! and why people bash it I dont understand they should appreciate it! Thank you

The Lens being cheap doesn't necessarily mean its a bad lens. The 50mm F1.8 has great optical qualities. With nearly all of the primes being superior to any of the zooms Canon makes.
I use my F1.8 50 with my 7D all the time. Takes brilliant shots consistently. If only the autofocus on it wasnt so slow!
i like the video, i have been photographing tampa, but this video is amazing nice composition.

question.... why do you purchase a professional level dslr camera like the 5d mark ii.. and then get a 99 dollar lense to put on it lol? i could see one possible solution.. you really wanted the bad ass camera but didnt have enough money to saved for a l lens yet? just curious no hard feelings i love the lens it does great and the camera well everyone knows thats great
@pwrlifter69 There's nothing wrong in doing so. Theres no rules saying a 5D must use expensive lens. It's like a pen & your signature..does cheap ink have any different when you land your signature?
@pwrlifter69 do you have a DSLR yourself? The 50mm or the "nifty-fifty" is a must have for a photographer. I want to get one myself. (but the 1.4, the one with the USM)
@pwrlifter69 So you are saying when buy an expensive camera, you need to have an expensive lens on it. Yes I do buy an expensive lens for my camera but the question is not why do you buy a professional camera and have a cheap lens attached to it. Expensive lens doesn't make you a better photographer and you should no that.
I shoot a 50mm f1.4 but the f1.8 is the greatest deal in the history of mankind. That lens is absolutely a bargain. Too bad it feels so "cheap" to use but it is a great tool. Great video work.
i have exactly the same setup, but my shots are by far not as nice as yours! i am still practicing ... ;-) i think i try to pan way to often. i probably should focus more on classic "foto" style scenes. anyway:

Because the 50 1.8 is sharp, not as sharp as many L lenses, but it is very sharp.
It is sharper than most non-L lens, great apeture. It is sharper than the 50 1.4 which costs waaay more.
The drawback is poor bokeh due to the 5-piece, straight-edged blades.
