  • The crowd may have been small, but they were certainly enthusiastic. I'd have given my right hand to see this group in person. They certainly are good.....I've got a CD by them. Wonderful!

  • isn't this venue the Frank Erwin Center?

  • Very stirring! The Coldstream Guards wear a red plume in their bearskin hat, and the Royal Scots Dragoons (alias the Scots Greys historically) wear a white plume. Thanks for posting.

  • Pipe baaaand ...by the left...quick march. Marching out to Black Bear is beautiful.

  • what is messed up is im from Greenville Spartanburg area and British are playing in my home town. but here is the messed up part, i am in the air force and stationed in england where i just found this video.

  • LordAkronos wanna Party ? then get yer Arse over to Edinburgh this Hogmanay that is New years Night 2010,,,,,,,, We Will Rock You ! look it up on you tube Hogmanay edinburgh biggest street party in the world Enjoy wee man, do it

  • Scotch Guards!

  • I'm one of the soldiers in the Pipe Band in this video. That tour was awesome! Americans are a great crowd and they know how to party as well. We were ok about the lack of bums on seats of some of the venues, they were a bit big for the target audiences.

  • America loves Scotland !

  • lol i always wanted to party with the scots my dad did when he was in the navy he said you guys know how to party haha!

  • @Yhoothoob I was under the impression most of the British bands had stopped coming to the USA mostly because of a lack of audience. I saw the Coldstream Guards and the Queens Own Highlanders YEARS ago when they came to Baltimore in the early 90s and the place was packed. Now, not so much. Too many Americans listening to Justin Beiber and Katy Perry I guess :/

  • i love amerian crowds, even thouhh there wasnt many, they were stil really entuisastic!

  • dont think teh squaddies acred its jus an opportunity to playa nd get a holiday haha

  • you should learn how to spell , before slagging anyone off. These men are soldiers first

  • i wasn't slagging them off and i had just got in from work so i was pretty tired. Beleive me i am more than aware that these men are soldiers first which is why i said they wouldnt care if there wasnt that many people there because it would be a welcome break and a holiday and tbh they really are only concerned with playing music, obviously every member o fthe armes forces are now trained to fight but there has been no such demand to get musicians to fight as of yet.

  • i love the black bear :P

  • you say there has been no demand for the musicians to fight, can I tell you that my grandson is a piper in the RSDGs and has been to Iraq twice, and there is word of them going to Afganistan next, so yes the bands do go and fight as well .

  • umm, i think you replied to the wrong guy? i never said anything about bands not fighting in wars...

  • that message was for letmeusethisnamenow sorry if you thought it was you

  • Most military band members will find themselves at the 'front'.

But normally they are used as medics, stretcher-bearers, and other similar roles.

  • Pity there weren't more people watching.

  • We saw these outstanding musical units play to a full house at the George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. It was a privilege and pleasure to watch these fine men and women entertain a very enthusiastic crowd. Well done - and please visit with us again!!!!

  • That was 2 years ago today!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing these groups perform in New Jersey during their USA tour. Sad to see so many empty seats at this venue. One thing is certain, everyone in attendance enjoyed the performance. These are true professionals, regardless of the size of the audience.

  • I've seen these guys perform ... and here, inspite of so many empty seats, the guys did their usual excellent performance... and yeah please focus next time ... their uniforms are awesome

  • its the ist battailon pipes and drums of the scots guards with the coldstream guards

  • Sorry, it's not the Scots Guards. Look at the bass drummer for the Dragoon Guards (pipe band), he is wearing a white bearskin with an over-the-top red plume given to the regiment by the Czar of Russia. The Scots Guards do not wear a white bearskin. They are the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, the amalgamation of the Scots Greys and the 3rd Carbineers for sure.

  • It's from a digital camera, it's as far as HD as you can get, give me a break. And the zoom button never zoomed the amount I want so there are lots of back and forth. This video was meant to document and promote the show, not to substitute the experience.

  • Sorry earthworm.

Unfortunately it did neither, so should have been kept in a cupboard.

By the way, have you managed to get hold of the latest RDG recording from Iraq/Afghan, recorded in a tent in the desert ?

    It's superb.

  • where is yet

    ?

  • dear grambo365, the Coldstream Guards are not actually a scottish regiment, theare named after the town of Coldstream on the English/Scottish border, ntheir insignia (the Garter star) encompasses the St.George flag, and therefore, it's an Enlish Regiment, if anything.

  • And the first regiment to form before Charles II came back!

  • Dear TubaHooligan, I don't mean to be arguementative, but I would check your facts. The regiment was raised in Coldstream, SCOTLAND in the mid-1600's by General Monck (Monck's Regiment of Foot). They first fought with Cromwell to help defeat the Royalists (that is where they received the St. George's Cross in their badge). Later, the helped restore Charles Stuart (Scottish blood) to the throne. But if it makes you feel better, go ahead and call them English.

  • take it your scottish ? they're based in london, check your own blood line, i bet you weren't always from up on the hill, your ancestors are most likely from norway or somewhere. my point is, its where we are now that defines who we are, drop the patriotism scotland lost its when it was forced into the U.K

  • Yes I am and very proud of it! And no, I won't drop the patriotism and if you asked my fellow Scottish brothers and sisters they probably won't drop their's either. Where are we now? Hum, were Scottish and we will never lose our identity! As for your comment that the regiment is based in London, well yeah, and so what? Just enjoy the music and keep dreaming about being Scottish.

  • Just goes to prove. There's two kinds of peope in the world. those that are Scottish, and those that want to be!!!

  • you ve nicked that sayin off the irish

  • sorry 'bout that. me mom's irish actually so I can't say too much.

  • "Just goes to prove. There's two kinds of peope in the world. those that are Scottish, and those that want to be!!! "

Im assuming your a wannabe ?

  • The SCOTS DG are based in Germany, does that make them German?

All the Guards Div cycle through London for public duties at Buck Palace and the like. They will usually stay for years.

  • I love Black Bear!

  • The pride of Britain. The envy of America!!

  • The pride of Scotland**

  • I don't know why your'e getting "thumbs down?" Other than the Greys amalgamtion with the 3rd Dragoons (Welsh), I see two fine Scottish regiments... The Coldstream Guards and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards!

  • these guys r great my brother in law is 1 of their pipers he njoyed the tour but is glad 2 finally b back home with his wife his kids n his newborn i actually walked down the ailse to 1 of their songs it was great

  • They are all wonderful and hard working servicemen & women as well! My son was given the honor of playing with them on stage in Calif. Can't say enough about them!

  • I agree with you waterloo3, it has to be very hard for these guys. Every night a show. With only a day or so off... They are doing a fantastic job and in Texas they had a great spirit about them! They will be done in just a few days to go home! :{

  • Interesting that the RSDG Kettle Drummer (seen here) wears the only white Bearskin in the British Army. Rumours that it is polar bear skin are false, lol. ;-)

  • This is still a great video excerpt from the finale. The above viewer is right, all members of both bands were pleasant and charming to chat with, despite what must be quite a grind being on tour in USA for 2 mos. They do a different city almost every night. I don't think any US service bands could put on a show like this for such a length of time.

  • We met some of these guys in San Antonio Tx. AMAZING! They are some of the most honorable, loyal and brave MEN I have ever met! If you have not already done so, go and research "The Royal Scots Dragoon"! Their history is amazing and their Music is beautiful! It will touch your soul! Unforgettable!I hope I get to see them again!

  • I remember that night in San Antonio and it was an amazing reception. We left Kansas hours late because of a snow storm, missed our connecting flight at Houston and had to hire a coach to San Antonio. We made it by the skin of our teeth! What a reception we got though! Not to mention a cracking day off afterwards.

  • Which one are you? We had a great time on the riverwalk! Hope you guys made it back safe and sound!

  • We just saw them last night and it was completely full!

  • Why there's so few audience? :O

  • It's a big stadium, the show was not well advertised, and Pipes and Drums is not part of the pop culture here in USA. I stumbled across the fact that they are coming close to where I live until about 3 weeks before the concert date.

  • The band begins the finale with the regimental march of the Coldstream Guards "Milanollo" attributed to the popularity of two Italian sisters who UK in the 1840s and their tune caught on with Colonel of the regiment. Both bands then combine for the traditional march-off of "Scotland the Brave" and "Black Bear". Great videos, please post more!

  • Unfortunately, that's all I got. All the videos were made with my camera. It's not a camcorder that's about all the videos I can shoot. I just didn't want to tape the entire concert neither. The entire show is only $50 and they are touring practically EVERYWHERE in USA.

  • The second tune (when the snares start, the bagpipes join in and they march) is called Scotland the Brave, one of the inofficial anthems for Scotland.
