  • 4:38 i think he tried to motorboat but got denied

  • hahahaha i love it! now i need some mushroomsor acid..

  • 5:08 illuminati symbolism....im sure theres more!!

  • jesus christ this is a fucking trip

  • Love, love, love everything about this! Even the music is perfect. Is it just me or does Fozzy bear a striking resemblence to Xar in Sins of the Fleshapoids?

  • beautifull

  • Basically she got high and went to a party. Thats what it represents to me hahah. I love this stuff when I am stoned and not haha

  • I'm tripping so much balls right now...

  • this is so crazy

  • Sally is the greatest! These Anita & Fozzy films still hold up for pure crazed fun!

  • @MisterEsoteric Let's have a party!

  • @MisterEsoteric i know right i LOVE them especially face like a frog!!!!!:)

  • This is proper animation, none o' that Cgi complete bullshit

  • Is the rich mustachioed duck voiced by Mayo Thompson?

  • @Danziginthedark Al Dodge did that voice.

  • wow, this is a lot of fun to watch, I wish I knew about this channel back when I had an art of the movies class, these short films are amazing!

  • strange, but not nearly as weird as face like a frog! at least this has a plot :)

  • omfg im so fucking high i think im dying hahahahaha

  • I still love your work Sally! It was a nice surprise to stumble on it here on youTube. Thanks for sharing it.

I first saw your films when Jules Engel would show them at CalArts. Then I talked to you once when you came to show your films at the NuArt in LA. I hope you are doing

well and still creating these gems!

  • @NoerMSK ME TOO MAN! I am trippin' balls XD

  • @NoerMSK holy shit me too

  • @NoerMSK me 2 :)

  • Retarded, but AWESOME!

  • The animation in this video is truly amazing, along with the thought put into it. Very psychadelic. Love it.

  • Everyone says the old style of animating with cels and water colors was so much better but you have no IDEA how time consuming it was. I don't understand why programs like Flash aren't unleashing a greater wave of creativity. I think maybe artists are waiting till the format uncertainties fall into place but don't know more than anyone else. The free content "movement" has stopped many careers.

  • @laughingsal i dunno i think all that rediculous work was part of it. you had to go through so much to get somethin out, kind of like with the old super nintendo games songs, theyre way better then the new video games songs but they had so much less to work with. the stuff that makes the job difficult turn it into more of a labour of love i guess lolol i dont really know tho lol either way tho yr arts some of the best

  • @tracksuitjim interesting thoughts... oh and thanks

  • amazing stuff sally... what are you doing with yourself now sally...are you still making this amazing surreal kind of animation? do you prefer the digital way of animating or prefer the analogue oldschool way with cell painting? thankyou for making such inventive creativity!!!!

  • You are my idol.

  • What a triiiiiiiip!!!! :O

  • big fucking joke balloon heads

  • fantastic work, you have a really nice style of animation. can i ask, do you animate using hand drawn frames?

  • @jo3my3rs Thanks. This was all hand drawn animation with inked and painted cels. I don't do much animation anymore, but when I do it's with Flash, which has made everyone lazy. But the old process was a monster.

  • @laughingsal when did you make this?!!

  • Trippy. I bet the makers were had loads of acid and decided to make this. Why can't we make shit like these now?! VIVA LA RESISTANCE!

    fuck flakjflaskfjalsd! STONERS UNITE!

  • good

like Jim Woodring crossed with R. Crumb

  • A DUCK?...so that is what she is suppose to be.

  • To recognize and identify so closely with something without being able to describe the source or wellspring from which they arise. This is dreams and these are Sally's cartunes. They must find their way into the pantheon

  • @xiocrafter I thought I answered you but it didn't show up, I'm sorry. This is an utterly lovely comment you posted, thank you. I was at the actual Pantheon in Rome two weeks ago. Sally

  • Please please please make more Anita, quasi, and snozzy films like this. I would be so grateful!

  • I am addicted to the noise that one pair of sunglasses makes. Not sure why. It's so cute!

Also, where can I buy a ghost pipe?

  • w...t...f

  • this.. is.. messed up

  • she left her body thru the entire film and almost died.

  • 4:27

  • dam this shits wierd

im fuckin stoned and none of

    this makes since

  • this vid was influenced by vast amounts of psychedellic drugs.

  • WHTF???

  • actually fool, it's WTF??????

  • dude you dont even need to be baked. this already makes no sense

  • wtf?!?! im so like fuck right now!like i cant even type im sooo baked this is the weirdedst fucking video i have ever seen !!!! I LOVE IT! some has to watch this baked it dosent make sense! :X LOL!!!

  • this vid was made under the influence of drugs. they were roasted never mind baked.

  • wow, i saw these on "Night Flight" in the early 80s and they've been festering in the back of my brain ever since. great to see these! now i don't have to fumble when people ask: "what artists are you influenced by?" thanks Sal!!

  • That's nice, thank you.

  • Sally - I'm watching some of your older stuff again... wondering how did you do the moire patterns at 1:04 and 2:47? (Of course, I wonder how you did most of these films sans computers!! Do you ever look back and wonder?) -Rick U

  • Hi Rick, I do look back and wonder, but I don't want to look at this one now.

As I recall I bought some kind of zipatone ray pattern, like orange slices or pie wedges with many black slices, printed on clear acetate. I had two of them overlapping slightly and turned one frame by frame.

  • OK. I had never seen this type of pattern animated before. Of course, if you can imagine it, I know you get it on the screen somehow.

  • omg i love these videos. i need more.

  • make MEEE psychic

  • This is great, right up there with Ren and Stimpy for weirdness.

  • thanks for video.

is fantastic to psychological torture of prisoners in Afghanistan.

  • huh?

  • Sorry i don´t understand.

    I am Spanish.

what is the meaning of huh?

  • Comment removed

  • I think you meant to say,"It would be fantastic for the psychological torture of prisoners in Afghanistan." You were close! :)

  • this is absolutely amazing! your truly an original artist and i am in loveeeee with your animations. and vreeb1's comment couldn't have been said any better myself. hi :) -Gabbie

  • thanks Gabbie.

  • I can't believe I missed this one

  • Hey Sal, who's Kim Deitch?

  • I like how Annita has a russian accent.

  • funny! I was obsessed with Russia in grammar school.

  • no, its a new york accent

  • the drawing remind me of yellow submarine

  • ...And that's why it's so hard to get a hold of a Mesmerama today... You are one of a handful of animators whose inspiration is profoundly cosmic! It's a privilege and pleasure to say hi.

  • I hear they're making them in China. Hey, you're so nice, hi back to you!

  • I love, love, love, love, love, love, love this.

  • so glad!

  • damn.............. lol.

  • I think I'm freaking out

  • Im so fuckin stoned,

  • ...Wait...

    That's a duck?

This had to be made in the seventies. (If you know what I mean.)

  • Wacky! Thank you.

  • lsd

  • Yes I think i have a new favorite animator. By the way does anybody know if Sally Cruikshank had anything to do with the Beetlejuice cartoon?

  • That's what it reminded me of too!

  • this is great

  • Yeah, that's why I hadn't completed my Masters at CalArts. I was one of the students the studios snapped up. Ideally I want to work on educational games / software for kids ... but I'm open to whatever seems the best opportunity down the road.

  • You guessed right! Sorry, forgot about the name handle thing. Thanks to you & the other Cal Arts faculty, I got into whatever remaining 2D jobs were left before they completely went overseas and then 3D became the Next Big Thing. 3 studios, 4 gaming companies, & several website jobs later, I figured it was time to go back & get my Masters in 3D animation. Like it or not, it's the future. : )

  • yeah, ToonGrrl, it's hard to remember screen names and worse associating them with real peep's names. Gee I remember when I taught that semester at Cal Arts 2 d animation was so hot the school was struggling to keep the students enrolled- like they were baseball players! Now animation is a hot ticket on campuses but what will all these students do? Gotta be a new form coming along for animation- I'm thinking maybe interactive clothing. Are you getting the Masters so you can teach?

  • AAU is the biggest art school in San Francisco. It's the closest to Cal Arts _ Art Center that the Bay Area gets, especially for 3D animation / modeling training. CCAC in Bezerkeley is best for fine arts, but has virtually zip 3D training, last time I checked.

Way back in the mists of time, I visited your cool house in Northridge when I was a Cal Arts squab. Do you still have that wonderful menagerie in your backyard?

  • Hi ToonGrrl-- I was trying to remember- is your name Nicole? I remember you, but may have gotten name wrong. Are you trying to get work doing 3D? Seems like the best option for animators.

  • Hey, Tom Bertino's my Dir. of Anim. at Academy of Art University. What did he do exactly for "Make Me Psychic?" He must have done that before working on 'The Plague Dogs' with then-budding-animator Brad Bird. I think they both worked under Disney animation veteran Rhetta Scott, who was hired because she drew the vicious hunting dogs in 'Bambi.'

  • He was just a kid then, and did some inking and painting. We had a very jolly time and Tom was fond of practical jokes. I hadn't heard of yer art school before.

  • Heehee, Quasi went to the party as a member of the Residents.

  • or maybe the residents borrowed Quasi's outfit.

  • Do you listen to the Residents? They seem like the might fit well in one of your toons. (ie. surreal, funny, and creepy in a completely absorbing way.)

  • They were a san fran band at the same time I was a san fran cartoonist, but I didn't go out at night much and never saw them.

  • Someone here on YouTube made a video for the Residents song "Dumbo the Clown" using clips from Face Like A Frog.

  • Thanks for telling me. I looked at it just now. It uses clips from other sources too. The way my clips sync up worked quite well. Since I've grabbed video clips for youtube pieces (I am a Mole) I can't get upset.

  • Oh my gosh, I miss stuff like this! One thing that's ultimately impressive in this is the Backgrounds; I love their rendering.

I remember some of your shorts from Sesame streets also; Though I'm not as old school as their actual dating. Subscribe'd!

  • I've tried to get the look of the backgrounds in computer art and it's not possible, for me at least.

  • Well, there's always drawing on paper and scanning/taking a picture of it, right? I'd suggest photoshop but it's hard to duplicate the simplicity of paint on paper without it looking.. synthetic.

Do you use flash for your newer stuff?

  • Yes I use Flash. I've tried to get a water color look with Painter, but get frustrated.

  • I love your videos, so so much.

    They're very neat : )

  • thanks TetrisPilot!

  • I vaguely remember seeing this somewhere when I was younger. Regardless I've been perusing your numerous videos and I must say that I really dig your stuff! Five stars all the way!

  • glad I don't have to say your screen name after a glass of wine, but thanks for your nice comments!

  • You're welcome. I probably should've chosen something shorter, but I go by Neutral. The colours you chose were very fluid, how long have you been animating?

  • I started in 1971. Not been doing much lately.

  • I know this sounds silly but I'll ask anyway, didn't I see some of your work on Seasame Street?

Computers have their limits but it's good to hear that you're trying your hand at using them in your art.

  • if you look around my channel you'll see quite a few Sesame St. Shorts.

  • That's so amazing! I knew I recognized your work. Awesome job!

  • My hair is bleeding.

  • i don't think i ever wanna try acid.

  • the music reminds me of Spongebob

  • i luv thees

  • shit that was weird

  • This is great! I think I may have seen this, years ago, on KQED back in San Francisco. Great animation, great style!

  • thanks, you're right. It was on KQED long ago.

  • Sally, I wanna be you when I grow up.

  • no you don't. i promise!

  • Perhaps sometime we can pull a Freaky Friday switch and then decide which is preferable.

  • God, wasn't Sally's stuff always amazing?

  • awesome

kwazi's outfit looks like a resident

  • I'm really not sure who did it first-- we were all in San Francisco at that time.

But the only time I cooked turducken it was pretty weird!

  • yeah ive never actually eaten it & i probably wont, but its the name of my band

also the residents are a band who have remained completely anonymous since the 60's, they wore large eyeballs like kwazi in the video

  • at 0:19 it sounds like ed from ed edd n eddy

  • Were you influenced by the animation like the kind in Beatles' movies?

  • I would really, really like to live in your cartoon world for awhile. Well, at least I can imagine. It would be very cool to spend a day with Anita.

  • Did you make this lil vid? :)

  • ya ya ya 1978

  • wow okay! :) thanks for the reply ^^ and for uploading the video! it was really funny

  • Wow I think I last saw this at least 20 years ago, or probably more, and I can't believe how many of the images came back to me as I watched. Thanks for posting this!

  • Memory is so strange, isn't it? I remember jingles for tv ads from the 50's. "Stronger than Dirt"

  • Have you thought about financing another short, I mean when the economy gets better. It amazes me how animation studios like Disney and Fleischer could afford to make over 30 animated shorts a year especially during the depression and still provide great quality. Prices have gone up since the Depression.

  • It's odd: now there's a really educated audience for animation but no distribution outlet besides youtube, which is copyright give away. I've made some shorts using Flash and may start another because they're fun to do, but the lack of distribution makes it less compelling. I thought cel phone or interactive animation would take off but so far that's not the case. Any ideas? I actually know of someone interested in finance of a project.

  • This is a great but weird cartoon. You can't find cartoons like this anymore. As far as distribution, a lot of new cartoons premier on the Internet now, either via sites like this one, or on an independent site. A lot of them have a large fan base, like Homestar Runner, Foamy the Squirrel, Weebl and Bob, and many others. What would be cool is if you could get back together w/ the people who produced Anita The Duck and bring her back w/ more current cartoons, as well as the classics.

  • Thanks for the enthusiasm. I've always hit zero at meetings and think I'm relegated to hopelessly independent.

  • WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is Brilliant! 2:41 is my favorite part! LMAO!

  • Who voiced anita?

  • Oh dear, I did.

  • When they started laughing i thought there was going to be a Carrie moment :P Crazy animation (in a good way)

  • ohyeah, Carrie is the classic of that sort of thing.

  • Brilliant! I love this!

  • and you've got brains!

  • LOVING the eyeball costume. I have a strange obsession with eyes.(especially green/hazel ones!)

    Anita's laugh is crazyyyyawesomeeeee.

Dancing on the stars is fun and I love you. <33333333333333333333333

  • wheeeeee

  • Haha awesome! My first Sal experience. Great job! Any chance of this type of animation coming back?

Btw...is the eyeball mask a reference to the Residents?

    Phil

  • I think the eyeball was one of those simultaneous thinking along same lines things. I didn't know who they were at the time, but we were both in San Fran.

  • That was fucking intense!!!

    and I'm really stoned :)

    what a great combo.

    cool vid!

  • hahahahaha same dude!!!!!! OMG!! hhahaha

  • AMAZING
