  • what about punk vs here it goes again?

  • its legal as long as they copied under 7 bars of the music i believe, but id still say enough of it is different that its not downright plagarism.

  • Gorillaz new songs suck anyways

  • @goshuajoshua wow........that's kind of offensive to fans of gorillaz.......just look at the music video for stylo to see how many views it has to prove that their new songs DON'T suck

  • @TheGORILLAZFAN2323 I used to be a fan, now I think they suck.

  • Yes people, 3 notes, 3 very long and obvious notes.

  • cant u anusheads see that Mr Allbran is an unoriginal turd and you can pretty much link every Gorillaz track to the ones he has ripped off........he simply isnt the real deal!

His music is bland and lame, why does everyone pretend it isnt......

i guess the general public enjoy consuming shite ,ala McDonalds.....

  • @cavesystem ok so which song did they rip off feel good inc from or clinteastwood? Show you little cuntwhore

  • @Gorillaz12d the fact that u are trying to defend such lame music exposes u as a lightweight, not worth discussing.......go and listen to some wu tang if u want real hiphop, much love x

  • @cavesystem Maybe we don't want what you define as real hip hop. Maybe we want music that was created and performed by people with talent.

In response to your earlier reply to me: I'm not 42, but obviously *you* aren't. Stop misleading those of us who appreciate good music and shun shitty music (*cough*Wu Tang*cough*) with that falsely implemented age information on your channel.

TL;DR: Go get hit by a car. This world is better off without people like you robbing the rest of us of our air.

  • @cavesystem I love how u couldnt answer my first question, instead u just insult me like any uneducated /musically-bias person would do. I'm not here to insult Eddy Grant. From the sounds of this song of his I may possibly like him. But u must realize that what we can do with music is limited...atleast in terms of theroy. A few months ago i wrote a song by following what i knew based on music theroy. When i showed it to my friend he accused me of ripping of a beatles song i never even heard.

  • @cavesystem 42 years old? Dude, get a life.

  • @FiveStarGeneralMeow whats 42 years old? your nutsack?

  • They are just sampling

  • Eddy grant is just mad gorillaz made better use of the 3 notes.

  • @anovasinn Doubts, Eddie Grant's song sounds way awesomer than the gorrilaz version. Eddie Grant's all funky, And the gorrilaz are all bland, They used to have a good sound. And yes, I said awesomer. What of it? Wanna fight about it? I thought so! (Runs away).

  • @xoxoLeslie92 Ha i consider eddie's bland. I am surprised so many people dog the gorillaz new albumn. The only thing i do not like about it is its superficial preachness about the enviroment. Seems they would have been better to pick another topic to represent. Considering how synthetic there music is. Perhaps thats the paradox of their message

  • 3 notes!? that's what people are making a fuss about? has Grant heard sweet home alabama / werewolves of london

  • Superfast Jellyfish- Cold Gritz- Its your thing

Tomorrow Comes Today- The New Breed- PM or later

Man Research- Raymond Scott- In the hall of the mountain queen

Slow Country- The Specials- Ghost Town

Rock the House- John Dankworth- Modesty Blaise

    Intro- Jack Trombey- Dark Earth

Left Hand Suzuki Method- Muddy Waters- Mannish Boy

  • @frugward86 In fact, Dark Earth is the sample used in "Intro", in Demon Days.

  • @frugward86 And finally, the trumpets in Rock the House, are also samples of Modesty Blaise. It's recognized in the credits of the first Gorillaz album.

  • Ooh, obviously... Gorilla's version's just a lilttle bit slower.

But not enough to gain royalties, Mr. Grant.

  • Dear Eddy Grant,

    Just suck my balls. bye.

  • Well i'm sure the gorillaz didn't copy it on purpose. There's only so many notes you can play on an instrument. One song is bound to sound similar to another.

  • The only difference is tone and tempo. Bass line is entirely different and the vibe as well. I agree you can't copyright 3 notes and I guarantee some of Grant's tunes will have copyrighted doppelgangers out there. We're not talking about a rip off of Vanilla Ice proportions here.

  • You hardly even hear the chord progression in Stylo. Its all about the bassline.

  • I'm with Jonmad, I love Gorillaz, but I could see why Eddy Grant would sue. It's almost identical.

For all of you saying there are tons of songs with these three notes in this progression please name some.

  • @BlankDisk01 My sentiments exactly.

  • @BlankDisk01 I myself haven't heard any that soun quite like these two but considering its root, 6th, 3rd it has high coinidental possibilities

  • what the actual fuck?! it's three notes. THREE! there are loads of songs that sounds similar, one that i noticed last year actually was Pixie Lott's Gravity to Jordin Spark's No Air, the rhythm there and the titles are very similar, yet no action was taken place. Tbh, it's probably just a coincidence, and Eddy Grant is a fool to sue the extremely talented Gorillaz over three notes. Just because no one heard of his piece of shit before Stylo was released. GORILLAZ RULE!

  • The parts that sound similar are easily simple enough to be coincidental and the differences are much more substantial.

So, I don't think that one simple chord progression from a fairly small portion of the song really constitutes copyright fraud

Eddy's comments suggest something much more heinous than a coincidental three-note chord similarity. Emotive language weakens credibility.

A shame, I quite liked Eddy Grant before this bullshit...

  • @bareakon Same here. Really liked his work. He's not going to do anything but dig his own grave with his lawsuit.

  • This is ridiculous. I'm all for protecting intellectual property, but you've got a flimsy case if you only use three bloody notes to start off with. They are similar, yes. But Time Warp is too simple for an accidental similarity to be unlikely, and the vast majority of the rest of the songs are different. It's not even the best bit of either song! Let's forget about this and start guessing who Coldplay will rip off on their next album....

  • they do this? :( em..that was ...no comments..

  • I think Eddy has bees in his brain. Sure, it's a couple of notes, but there's no need to overreact :|

  • Cadbury tried to copyright the color Purple. There are only so many musical notes and so many orders for them to be put in. Given the number of songs on the market today, I'm surprised at the variety. I think Eddy just wants a quick buck.

  • Cmon, 3 notes? then its easy as hell to that "time warp" song looks like 100000000 another songs!

I'm almost starting to feel sorry for him... he's so desperate for some attention he's inventing this bull$hit with, imo, a better and most famous band than his....

oh cmon, he's *SO* famous i've never heard of him!

    Gorillaz ftw \m/

  • @713ZombieGhoul317 Not to mention that in the Gorrilaz version, every other time the riff is vamped, the 3rd beat is a different note. Also, not to mention that even with that similar riff in front, the backing in the Gorillaz version is complex. Also, not to mention, Stylo is a lot better.

  • @TheZombieJC agreed XD amg you are a zombie too @.@

  • Comment removed

  • @leroyprc Oh, so you're insulting me for nothing...? I was just saying that he is a retard for wanting to sue gorillaz for only three notes. I never said I was a music lover, and I don't care how famous he was if I never heard of him (with reason, since I'm from BRAZIL). I just hate when people like you and him starts a fuss for NOTHING.

  • The chord progression is identical. He clearly has grounds to sue, and this is coming from a Gorillaz fan.

  • bah

  • I'm all about sampling, and reusing music, but if you are getting paid, break some off for the artist that inspired you. What did ESG say? "Sample Credits Don't Pay Our Bills" I hope Eddie Grant gets paid for this classic track that never got its due.

  • Eddy's just jealous cause he only had one hit decades ago while Gorillaz have made dozens of awesome songs.

  • @smoog

    that still doesen't give Gorillaz the right to copy his music;

    or does it?

  • oh my god.... just three fucking notes?

    that's not a copy

  • @Rahshan7154 I see your point, but, it doesn't matter who he is or if he's a legend, I think that track is solely for remix purposes. It's a little under-developed. you'd think if he'd have time to sue an activist, he'd have time to make a comeback. if he's a legend, why doesn't he have any money?

  • Its a cold rip off of Time Warp....Time Warp was an all time classic! Larry used to ROCK this hard!

  • @d305nl they where 3 effing chords

  • It doesn't seem to me that its a matter of which is better, that is objective opinion, however the similarities can't be ignored...

but if Vanilla Ice got away with it with Queen's "Under Pressure" than I don't see this getting anywhere. At least don't go the same route as Vanilla Ice and blatantly deny it, give a nod to Eddy if nothing else.

  • ベースにしたかもしれないケド・・・

    デーモンのセンスの方がかなり上回るデショ

    この程度で盗作っていうなら

    世の中の全てが疑わしいダロガ

  • I enjoy both songs for completely different reasons, and I see why the claim is being made, but I also think they're different enough that it could be entirely accidental. I mean, it's bound to happen.

That being said, even accidental copyright infringement is illegal and it will be up to a bunch of lawyers to decide if they're close enough. I personally hope the Gorillaz will be alright.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes it's the same melody. But it's funny how 1 sound better than the other. You already know which is the better one I'm talking about. lol

  • Yeah... they have that stupid similar 3 notes... but, I mean, there are so many songs in the world. It's three notes, Grant. It's bound to happen, and you can't accuse everyone who uses THREE NOTES

  • @rahshan7154 much respect dude. That was a great use of info and big words.

  • The level of disrespect to the originator of the sound the Gorillaz are recycling is mind boggling. As for opinions, everyone is entitled to one. I listened to Stylo and it has a techno feel & with Mos Def on the track makes it definitely a hot song, but Time Warp is a legendary Club Banger that was in the rotation of every Club DJ worth his salt, including the legendary Larry Levan, at The Paradise Garage. I say Time Warp emphatically, hands down.

  • To be fair, they are quite similair

  • Noodle FTW

  • I can see similar tones, but let the ruler of bethos decide

  • The only thing in common i see is the background melody other than that it's completely different. And why would you make such a ruckus if you made the song like 3 decades ago. Dude's being a douche. No offense...

  • Stylo all the way!

  • Considering that the song "Time Warp" is already 31 years old, I think Gorillaz' fans could show a little more respect to Eddy Grant and the sound he made.

In 1979, there were no computers like we have now to make those very sophisticated sounds we hear in "Stylo".

Gorillaz' "Stylo" is just great. But that doesn't mean you have to spit on a great vintage tune like "Time Warp".

  • @Ekorre79 Grant threw the first stone. He called them plagiarists for using what is essentially a simple four note progression that any dope could have come up with. There's no doubt that if we were to go digging through the crates, we could find the same progression in an older song.

Nothing is new anymore. It's just about who can do the most with what's already old.

  • es puto eddy gorillaz

    mejor por 1000000000000000000000000......................

quien lo manda a no ser famoso y negro

    jajaj

  • I really really really love Gorillaz, but I also like Eddy Grant. But, well--I like Stylo waaaay better. Eddy Grant should just chill. It's not like Gorillaz copied the WHOLE song...

    *ahem*

    Gorillaz FTW

  • Both are pretty good Nu Disco tracks. Why always try to find a winner?

  • @deadvoltbeat I think it's about the fact that Eddie Grant says that the Gorillaz ripped off his track 'Time Warp' with 'Stylo' rather than comparing for who has the better track.

  • Gorillaz is the best! ^^....eddy grant lol!

  • GORILLAZ ARE MY LIFE!!! STYLO WINS HANDS DOWN!!!

  • hmmm its difficult to call. it is very similar to parts of stylo but as has been mentioned before, its a pretty common progression and lead line

  • mmm its the same sound but I think that gorillaz didn't have the intenction to copy, coincidence

  • Eddy's being totally ridiculous, they're kinda of similar, but honestly so much has already been done that it's become almost impossible to create something and say it's new without some tosser saying he got there first.

And besides, Eddy's song was almost 20 years ago, what does it matter! If people like it then I really can't see what he has to complain about! It's basic progression that grabs you and draws you into a song, who's gonna argue?!

  • @GoodKharma92

quite on the contrary, grant is spot on. besides, it doesn't matter if it was 20 minutes or 20 years ago if you rip someone off. rightfully nailed -- rock on, grant!

  • @mardenhill so what you're saying is that anything that's already been done isn't allowed to be used again. Well then we're all screwed and music will never progress past where we are right now. Music is meant to be inspirational and if Gorillaz were inspired by grant then how are they in the wrong? It's just you not liking the new stuff, and with people like you around things will never change.

  • @GoodKharma92 Amen.

  • Stylo: <3

    Time Warp= shit

Gorillaz is a God, Eddy is only a human

  • @Winyfhet

you got it all wrong -- gorillaz is another studio project marketing spin-off aimed at brainless teens who spend all their pocket money on merchandising and mediocre sounds. grant is for people with brains -- he wins hands down.

  • @mardenhill No dear, YOU are wrong.

  • @mardenhill Three note bass line. Four note melody. The lyrics are "doo doo doo doo doodleoo doo". Yeah. This is music for people with brains.

What's it like to be THAT dumb?

  • @lawlsimpopular i have no idea ... but you should be able to tell, no?

  • @mardenhill Awww. Too bad that comeback doesn't make any sense, considering that if I could tell you I wouldn't have asked, now would I? I'll give you another chance. I know thinking is a real strain for you, but I'm sure you can muster something better up.

  • i acctidetally composed this EXACT same thing like a year ago. its an extremely basic bass progression and synth bend

  • @rawkout1337 Lol XD

  • who dares challenge the gorillaz anyway?!

  • Both are cool tracks. And they are similar but the gorillaz did not steal it.

  • I don't think eddy grant has a case. the time warp is not in the entire 'stylo' song. Unless if I am mistaken I believe what stylo does, falls completely with the fair use of the DMCA. considering the part in stylo is about 30 seconds long, Gorillaz did not do anything wrong.

  • stylo crap is a insult compared to eddie what s that bullshit anyway sounds like sombody getting ready to start rapping

  • @buggeazy102 word.

  • Exchange the Song Stylo by Gorillaz - Stylo (Alex Metric Remix) and tell the story of intellectual theft again.

  • I'm not going to even say anything about Eddy Grant or Gorillaz, you just can't copyright THREE NOTES, I'm sorry

  • @tofugoast Have you studied musical theory? The amount of notes has nothing to do with it. The chord progression is exactly the same. I have no idea if he stole the song consciously, but the similarities are too strong to ignore.

  • @Jonmad17 Most notably the sequence at 18 seconds to 26 seconds is entirely absent from Stylo. I would be more skeptical if Gorillaz included the entire progression in their song in the exact same key, but they do not. Sure the initial 3 note progression is "similar", but that's silly. If Eddy Grant wants to settle this in court, that's fine. It's his prerogative. But I'm still going to laugh about it. Probably some caveman in primitive times came up with it first by banging on a line of skulls.

  • I can hear the similarity but it's one instrument and a very basic progression. There's no way Eddy Grant can expect to win. I don't know who he is but his song is terrible anyway.

  • Unfortunately for this type of music, repetition is very common. Consider the context instead of the quality sometimes, often it opens an entirely new realm of significance for any work of art. Old skool rap in and of itself didn't take a genius to create but add the social and economic contexts in which is was created under and you have solid history, it means something important.

  • The stylo version sounds like everything else from today. I've heard so many songs at clubs and lounges that sounded the same, stop using your biases to try and win a war over which version of a song is better, no one is right, it's a matter of personal taste. Most young people will always insist theirs is better because it's new and older ppl theirs. As time goes on tho we see which outlives the other the music is left for all new ppl to enjoy.

  • This is the same guy who did Electric Avenue isn't it? LOL

  • eddy grant should get his ears checked

  • I dont see what the big deal is.. :/

  • 3 notes are the same. The rest aren't. Do you know how many times those 3 notes are used in songs? It's a basic note progression.

  • ok, ma questo non è copiare.

  • Yeesh, I respect Eddy Grant, but c'mon. Everybody needs to listen to Tom Petty, when RHCP were accused of ripping of "Last Dance with Mary Jane" for "Dani California," Petty said: "I seriously doubt that there is any negative intent there. And a lot of rock & roll songs sound alike."

  • @x562x I've never heard a rock song that sounded like Last Dance with Mary Jane. Only really good songs cannot be compared to other songs, they will be one of a kind.

  • Those 3 notes make the song.

  • is anything going on with this case?

  • that's the way that the old forgotten half ass stars earn money without do a thing....i'll demand everyone for use a A minor chord...it could do that their songs sound similar than mine...

  • @TheShorty0ne "Old forgotten half-ass stars?" Bwah, get an education, aight?

  • 2D should apologize to Eddy Grant!

  • I don't think he has an argument here. Doubt this will hold up.

  • eddy grant is only famous for electic avenue who gives a shit.. its a one hit wonder he will make lots of money off that

  • @andrewVeto Outside of the US, Eddy Grant's world-famous and owns Ice Records, which owns the largest catalogue of soca music in the world. Besides that, he was the first Black artist to have complete ownership of his masters and publishing, so don't front! Peace.

  • @andrewVeto Um clearly you have not a shred of knowledge about music. If Gorillaz works VERY hard for many years, they MIGHT have somewhere near the sales Eddy has had, a tenth of his audience and a hundredth of his wealth..he owns Ice Records, which has huge libraries of music you have never heard of. Just because you are ignorant about an artist, doesn't mean your opinion is anything but that..an opinion, which, in your case, is wildly wrong. Educate yourself before you open mouth.

  • it did at first, think they were similar, until i heard stylo next. its just three notes that are the same. its a weird coincidence. big deal.

  • stylo is way better!!

  • Am I the only one that thinks Stylo sounds more like Michael Jackson's Thriller?

  • Gorillaz: 20 millions albums sold by 2010, with only two albums released. That's 10 million copies per album. Grant is lucky if all his shitty records combined have sold 10 million copies. Awful song, awful artist.

  • Oh come on. Gorillaz (Damon albarn) are one of the most unique, original bands out there - I highly doubt they would purposefully copy anyone else's work.

Also, I heard the same three notes in the background of a bathroom furnishing ad - will Eddy be sueing them next? It's just ridiculous

  • Lol, trying to sue a band that aren't even real. Fail.

  • Grant is getting exactly what he wanted out of all this, which is his name in some headlines. Until he pitched his little fit I'd never even heard of the guy.

  • @kfgenius LOL , me neither . I mean , I've heard Electric Avenue by him , but , he's been an unimportant person lately .. And personally , I think it should've stayed that way .

  • that guys just mad because the gorillaz made it sound way better than he ever would have

  • I see the comparison, but with a riff so simple, I can see this being completely accidental.

  • WTF? 3 NOTES? AND HE'S SUEING? Get a freaking grip, Eddy.

  • It's not a complicated melody... it can easily be imitated, without ever hearing the original song.

  • Pfft Eddy Grant should get slapped up the side of head with a fish , Stylo's obviously better . GORILLAZ~4~LIFE <3

  • @4lic3l0v3sInuy4sh4x3

please don't be ridiculous. gorillaz ain't shit compared to eddy grant. kthxbye.

  • @4lic3l0v3sInuy4sh4x3 fuck you, eddy grand pwns gorillaz

  • What type of stylo remix is second song on this video pls lemme know

  • For the last time, people in the music industry should understand that we don't want DRM protected legal music downloads which we have payed for. You should not be afraid of letting go of the control over these legally downloaded and payed for music files. True music lovers and Hi-Fi fans would always buy a legal version of a song complete with covers and original album art than go down the illegal path. I think most people would appreciate an genuine distribution of a song than the illegal one.

  • Besides offering us a legal download service for which we would pay for, and not tying the files to specific media players and brands like iPod from Apple, the second thing that I wish that people in the music industry would understand is that we still need to be able to purchase our music in a lossless and uncompressed file format. Only then the legal music downloads will increase dramatically, surpassing both iTunes Store downlaods and illegal downloads. And please, no DRM!

  • I wish that the people in the music industry could come to their senses and offer us legal downloads for which we would pay for. The iTunes store from Apple is a good start, but it should not be the definitive and final solution. Why? Because such a music service or music store should not be tied to a specific consumer electronics company like Apple. They often tend to tie the music files to their own devices. So the music should really be accessible on any device brand, not just i.e. Apple ones

  • The people in the music industry have overused the copyright laws. These days they are trying to collect money from consumers and music fans all around the world. And it's not as often because someone has infringed a copyright law by i.e. making pirate copies (uploading) of music and downloading music illegally, but they more often do this solely based on the potential risk of music being copied. And that's totally crazy! I wish they could come to their senses and offer us legal downloads.

  • The copyright laws are the greatest enemy too good music! It's what's destroying good music in today's world! This Stylo vs. Time Warp case is just one of many examples of it. Copyright laws have existed back in 60's, 70's and 80's as well, and before that. But it's with the explosion of the Internet and the Web that people in the music industry have taken advantage of the copyright laws to their full extent. I believe they have overused these laws. Both when needed and when not needed.

  • Third, refer to point two because this is destroying good music. It should be every artists right to be inspired by any other artist and create a similar song.

  • Thanks Eddy for bringing it to my attention! But hey, Eddy, you shold know that your song is not the first and only on my list of similar songs. I say the music should always go before love for money (!!!). Unless you're short of money, naturally, or if you're just generally being greedy.

  • I myself have made a special list where I would list songs that are similar to other songs by some other artist. The list is not up to date because I have been too lazy to update it every now and then. But this Stylo vs. Time Warp thing would be a good addition to my list.

  • Perhaps Eddy himself is not even aware that he was inspired by some other artist when he created Time Warp, because this kind of thing usually works subconciously. I am a musician myself and I have several times found myself listening to a song when it strikes me that I have composed a similar song completely unknowenly and without the intension to copy some other artist.

  • Second, Eddy himself has probably also been inspired by some other artist when he created Time Warp. I'm sure you could find that artist or song if you would just set out to search for it. It's probably some very old song which not many people in the world remember. I guess you could say the same thing about Gorillaz who were inspired by Time Warp from 1983 by Eddy. It seems that the artist must be either retired or deceased, in order to avoid copyright claims, and that's a sad thing indeed.

  • First, Gorillaz did not ripp the synth line straight off of Time Warp even if they do seem to have been inspired by it. They are thou not the first ones to be inspired by some other artist.

  • Besides, I have not heard Eddy's song Time Warp until today (2010-05-14) either. So I have heard both songs for the first time today. I like the music by both Gorillaz and Eddy Grant. But that is not preventing me from deciding what is right and what is wrong in this Stylo vs. Time Warp case. By principle, I dislike Eddy's copyright claim.

  • Like I said I like Eddy's music too. And that in fact is what makes me a bit sad, I guess, and disappointed at Eddy. I am a great fan of Eddy Grant and I don't like this Stylo vs. Time Warp situation, or Gorillaz vs. Eddy Grant if you will (as what the case would probably be called if it goes to trial/court). It's crazy what is happening with the music industry today. This kind of acts of "copyright" infringement claims are to be condemned, it's because destroying good music.

  • Just for the record, I saw and heard (obviously) the Stylo video today (2010-05-14) on MTV and I kind of fell in love with it. Really! I know about Gorillaz, I'm not a huge fan but I think I like their music more than I know. I just have not explored all of their stuff just yet. But I have the Clint Eastwood and the Dare track bookmarked on my Spotify account, so those are the two I really like. And now I like the Stylo, and after this "copyright" shit I like it even more. I like Eddy's music to

  • Like I said, I found out about this "copyright" infringement claim by Eddy Grant by reading the Stylo article on Wikipedia. I immediately searched for the so called "Time Warp" song by Eddy Grant just to compare it. Thank you very much for uploading this video! This is exactly what I was looking for since I also wanted to compare Time Warp and Stylo. So you kind of made my research work easier, so thanks for that oldboy4480.

  • Small correction: Just a quick correction on my previous comment. The UK based Stylo company makes GOLF shoes, not gold shoes! Sorry for the typo.

  • Where does the name Stylo come from? Does anyone know? Is it a car brand? (Since it says "stylo" on the car in the video). I just looked it up on Wikipedia and only found a UK company named Stylo which makes gold shoes and accessories, and I also found the Stylo song by Gorillaz. That's where I read about this "copyright" infringement by Eddy Grant. What the fuck is wrong with this world??? Now everyone has copyright on something!!! Shit man, Eddy you're a big disappointment for me now.

  • This can't possibly hold up in any court. If you look at it as a three note pattern, you'll see that Grant's 2nd and 3rd notes change as the pattern goes on. The 2nd and 3rd notes get higher as the pattern continues, whereas Stylo's "similar" pattern has no such change in pitch. That's enough, I think, to show that while one note is the same, the pattern overall has a different character. Otherwise, expect the Beatles to start suing bands for using one power chord that they once used.

  • uhh i havent even heard of this song time warp until i did sum reasearc on stylo.. bt really.. who gives a shit. atleast stylo sounds more lyk a song and less lyk a videogame.

  • Haha things like this always cause arguments on youtube XD *reads arguments and laughs*

Anyway, Gorillaz (Damon Albarn) are one of the most original bands around - I highly doubt they would intentionally be copying someone else's work. And Stylo also happens to be much better than the other song...

  • EDDY stole from Gorillaz. He went through a time warp, forward in time, after Stylo. He then went back and remade it, waited, and sued when the time came. That's why it's called Time Warp.

  • who the fuck is eddy grant??

  • Gorillaz better

  • I don't think anybody can copyright a line with four notes in it...

  • Gorillaz did it better.

  • Stylo better

  • @Troyb0y29

Stylo might sound better now, but it has almost 30 years of history and new technology helping it out. Time Warp is an awesome groove no question and people should be getting inspiration from it and making new songs.

  • I prefer eddy grants version... pioneer

  • I just realized, everything uses that rythm, i remember i used to own a old mid 90's video game called raptor and one of the levels music was the same as both these songs.

  • stylo is time wrap in slow mo...

  • Curiously, one of the first tracks I've made on fruity loops was a (lame and cheesy) trance tune with exactly the same melody as a background pad. Luckily Eddy Grant hasn't heard it, otherwise he'd be after my pocket money. :)

  • as much as i*

i guess im kinda disappointed in gorillaz ;A; but it doesnt change the music (y)

  • as much as a love eddy, i think stylo sounds a tad better. i know that it isnt the point but i really dont think its enough to cause such a ruckus.. maybe eddy should be a little more optimistic and feel flattered. great minds think alike and theyre 3/4 good notes after all : ) im pretty sure they wouldnt have picked such a well known song to copy on purpose anyway.

  • STYLO IS THE BEST!!!!!!! GO GORILLAZ!

  • well this one it's hard.....

    OBVIOUSLY STYLO IS BETTER!!!! :)

  • bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

  • took the eddy song and slowed it down simple as that its not like they haven't ripped off people before listen to madness driving in my car and gorillaz happy landfill. just the opening but still... a thief is a thief.. everyone steals from the past and just cause someone from the past is "unworthy" by your judgment that doesn't make the "better" artist any less a thief

  • gorrilaz are biger band AND MY FAVORITE BAND!!!! how are EDDY LOL GRAND?????

  • The only similarity seems to be in that high synth bit in my opinion... the bass line is hardly similar at all.

This isn't as clear cut as Viva La Vida to Satriani's song... nowhere near that clear.

  • This is bull... four same notes ain't plagiarism. And both of them tunes are bad...

Sorry but if the relation was similar like e.g between Ghostbusters Theme and I Want a New Drug by Huey Lewis then yeah but this is bull...
