A few of these songs were produced by Creed Taylor, the arranger was Don Sebesky. These sides were near the end of Wes's career and was a representation of how his music and style was commercialized to appeal to a broader audience. Needless to say the production was spot on.
when they release things like 'the 100 best guitarists of all time' they seem to miss people like Wes. A man who was self taught and never use a pick in his life!
Ivan the end of the song, I know what you mean. I was into wes as an 8 year child, I would grab an album by give it to may dad, he would smile and play it for me. r n b was out the door.
there will always be brilliant music like this and brilliant musicians to write it but it's up to us personally to find it... you often won't hear good stuff like this on the radio... just like you don't go to a cafeteria to get a gourmet meal, you gotta take it to the BISTRO...
who says people can't write tunes like this anymore CherokeeMusic?...they absolutely can...its just that the damned contemptable CORPORATIONS who have taken over the commercial airwaves don't let any truly creative music hit the airwaves if they can help it. They want it dumbed down to the lowest denominator so the music can help them sell their fuckin' PRODUCTS. I'm tired of people saying this cuz there are a LOT of cats writin' GREAT stuff but folks are too complacent to go find it and dig it
@PhantomDrums917 ..Right...Lady Gaga isn't even ABOUT music...Its about her being a SPECTICLE. Her and her damn Little Monsters...I'll say this though. Wes Montgomery is a MONSTER on that guitar
To have access to a modern dance club at high school I made a choreography with this amazing tune. I think it still sounds great! The great Wes died too soon indeed, he was a genious!
I am from Indianapolis. When I was a kid in the 60's I used to drive down Meridian St. and see him advertsed at the Embers Lounge. I couldn't get in because I wasn't 21. When I got back from Vietnam in Dec. '68 and had turned 21, I heard he died. I'm so sorry I never saw him. Thanks for posting, my favorite.
MUCH BETTER THAN THE 2ND ONE, BUMPIN' ON SUNSET. NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT IS HARD TO FIND!

This is my favorite Wes tune. So smooth, elegant, and delicious. It's a damn shame people can't write material like this anymore.

@sonwamac Agreed! The best music ever written is basically NEVER played on the airwaves. I'll take this over Lady Gaga any day!!!

It's probably a good thing songs like this don't release regularly - I'd be a useless mass in the corner of the room. A legal narcotic for the mind!

its a toss up between this song and 'here's that rainy day' for me.
wes and the orchestration behind him...nothing better in ANY genre of music...EVER.

True. Don Sebeski was the genius behind the orchestration :) pure class.

Sebesky even :)

quite possibly my favouroite wes track. The climax of the string section followed by the guitar dropping back in gets you every time!
