@dazt105 God tell me about it....some of the worst acting jobs also in film history from Reeves. I chalk it up to his lack of experience up until then, he's gotten better but not marginally. He may look the part but he brings down a great movie tremendously! BUT....I still LOVE the movie! lol
POLAŃSKI,KOMEDA, KIEŚLOWSKI, KILLAR, HOLAND, SKŁODOWSKA,CHOPIN,KOPERNIK,WAŁĘSA,JAN PAWEŁ II. TYLU NAS SIĘ UCHOWAŁO W TAK NIESPRZYJAJĄCYCH POLITYCZNIE WARUNKACH. JAK MI SIĘ KTOŚ PRZYPOMNI TO DOPISZĘ:))
"Bram Stoker's Dracula" is a movie hardly fitting of that title and is in many ways a disappointment, but with that said Oldman and Wait's performances (though the script only allows Oldman to be Dracula as we know him half the time), the effects, make-up, most of the costumes, and the soundtrack in particular are excellent. Despite my complaints with the screenplay and most of the acting, I give endless praise to the people behind those things! Talk about your saving graces!
@tamerswan Well, Count Dracula would say..."see me, see me now!" Watch it, you'll see. Coppola tastefully borrows from the film Nosferatu at times. Oldman IS superb in this film. Truly, the only "down" is the use of Keanu Reeves. Coppola was "under pressure" to have a male lead who was "current" etc. hence, Keanu Reeves. Bowie would have made the perfect Jonathon Harker.
@tamerswan "The taste of Kellog's Frosted Flakes, They're GRRREEEEEEAT!!" Yes, it's a great film. Gary Oldman is superb. Keanu Reeves role should have been played by David Bowie.
I always wondered, and since this is something I feel horror fans perhaps know of, is if a Ravenloft movie or a Ravenloft Online would be something people would enjoy. (for those who do not know Ravenloft it was D&D's attempt at horror. Not Altogether successful but still something to be improved on.)
The movie, the outfits, the scenes, the MUSIC...I love it from start to end. I don't care it is so different to the book, I enjoy the film as a film and the novel as a novel.
This music is very barbaric and very dark. It makes me fancying russian freezing plains towards Siberia. Slaves marching barefoot in the cold siberian winter going to gulag prison. Illness, decay, dead falling one by one...
@balrog13571 ah YES! Dude I know exactly what you mean..... Christopher Lee's older original vampire flix from like the 70s..... THOSE were epic. But yeah I want to be a horror director and I love all the old horror movies especially the vampire films, like Nosferatu, Bella Lugosi's Dracula, Lon Chaney as the Wolfman, Gary Oldman as the Count in this version. I dont want to make gorefest movies..... i want to make original gothic horrors. Make horrors SCARY
I absolutely agree - in fact i can't get the music out of my head! Very annoying when you are trying to solve a mathematical problem in class on the boards in front of everyone...-_-.....But it's still great music!^_^
i probably shouldn´t listen to it while i´m alone in a big house in a middle of nowhere in ireland at fullmoon with the window open... but i can´t help it... i love it!!
I have read the book before i saw this movie, i have to say that the movie is actually better than the book. Enlarge because of this masterfull soundtrack.
im reading the book right now for the first time. anyone remember the part whre Harker tried to kill Dracula with a shovel and it completely fails, and the count, though sound asleep is entirely aware of him and smiles? WHY THE HELL ISN'T THAT IN ANY OF THE F..KIN FILMS?! that bit was c,REEEEEEEEPYYY
The movie was ok, it has great actors. a great soundrack ect. but it's completely different from the book. Like for instance Dracula never falls in love with Mina. She's actually plotting to get rid of him with Jonathan and Van Helsing. Besides they left out so many great characters featured in the book. This movie completely changed the whole story and what really bothers me is that they titled it "Bram Stoker's Dracula" when it's completely not Bram Stokers' tale.
The movie was great, and so was the book. Differences of opinion aside, at least Bram Stoker didn't suck total shit like Stephanie Meyer and her stupid-ass Twilight
@Gojira1985 Stephanie Meyer is a terrible writer, especially compared to Stoker. The saddest thing is she wouldn't be cashing in so much with Twilight if it wasn't for Stoker's Dracula defining and popularizing the modern vampire in the western world. Meyer's idea of a vampire is laughable. Dracula on the other hand, you don't fuck with him.
@Abnorvell thank god someone finally said it!! Stephanie Meyer is a terrible writer! I have her books, but to be honest... I've never read them. I saw the blurb and rolled my eyes it sounded so dumb.
@Abnorvell "[Wherever] a totalitarian movement erupts, whether Communist or Nazi [Fascist], a Jesuit can be found in the role of 'adviser' or leader; in Cuba [it was] [Jesuit-trained] Castro's 'Father' Armando Llorente..."
Emanuel M. Josephson (American physician and historian)
@Abnorvell "The Jesuits...are simply the Romish army for the earthly sovereignty of the world in the future, with the Pontiff of Rome for emperor...that's their ideal. ...It is simple lust of power, of filthy earthly gain, of domination -- something like a universal serfdom with them [i.e., the Jesuits] as masters -- that's all they stand for. They don't even believe in God perhaps."
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821-1881; famous Russian novelist)
@Abnorvell "Eight years before the attempted [Spanish] Armada invasion [of 1588], Jesuits were seditiously active plotting the overthrow of the English government. By using different disguises, aliases, and secret codes, to illegally slip in and out of England, Jesuit Robert Parson, in 1580, had led and then later organized a mission to bring other Jesuits into England to engage in a work of subversion.
@Abnorvell "Today they [i.e., the Jesuits] are stronger in the United States than they ever were in any of the countries of Europe which expelled them as a menace to the government." (1912)
@Kikefriki I couldn't disagree more. I liked the movie ( Freak'in adore the romance scenes, the rest was medicore.) but the book is still much better. I just hate when people say the source of the material sucked. No matter how bad it was, you have to hold it in with some respect.
@Kikefriki OMG how can you say that?! Sure the movie was good, but the book "Dracula" was also really good. Did you actually read it? It might not be my personal favorite but was definitely not mediocre!
