but let me direct you to my channel. you like floyd? youll like us. love hendrix? youll love us. Give my channel a chance. trust me youve got nothing to loose and a new great psychedelic band to gain. Promise.
Such a sad, open song by Waters. Vera Lynn sang the popular WWII song about the boys coming home. As we know Water's father never did come home ( he was killed in battle in Italy).
Not discounting Floyd's emotional content. David Gilmour can pack more emotion into one note than most bands hope to pack into a whole album, but we were discussing modern acts that have emotion, and in this day in age the Black Keys are really second to none.
i really wish she would cover this song, it would be fantastic. Im not sure if she still has her voice but im sure it would be much more difficult for her at such a old age.
we named our little Vera for this song...she was just diagnosed with a blood disorder and i just brought her home from the hospital today. this song just brings me to tears as I sit with her. the emotion roger puts in this is more powerful than my words can describe, and now that my husband and i are in this situation, we know now more than ever how amazingly powerful this song is.
yall DO realize that this video doesnt match the song because the audio comes from the album RIGHT? This may not be from the Earls Court concert... T_T
@DonConstantinos I know it is. I'm just sayin that the song from the album: Is There Anybody Out There wasnt all from Earls Court. It was picked through the tour. This is the video from Earls Court. The song came from somewhere else
@rapsnaps I'd kill to see this show back in 1980, I saw Roger Waters The Wall a few months ago and it was amazing, but it wouldn't be the same as seeing the actual Pink Floyd. To be honest I think I prefer the live show of the wall better than the actual album, idk why I think it just sounds better
Vera Lynn sang the song during WWII about the boys coming home. Rogers is making the statement that his father never did come home; the promise was broken.
I Saw Floyd many times and also Roger Waters solo tours. Also have the console video of the Buenos Aires show (crew shots and even the metronome), in some songs, seems that Rog lip sinch. I will download this version and put it over the CD version to compare. Specially the voice.
Really? That's beautiful! Because Vera Lynn sung about the trust that you'll come home, and meat your wife again some sunny day. She actually sung it to the WW2 soldiers. However, this song is quite opposite. Because Pink would, instead of meating his father again some sunny day, never see his father again (he died in WW2)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
vera lynn was his wife who cheated on "pink" and left him screwed. she said they would meet again cause she stayed in the UK while "pink" toured in the US while he was gone she cheated on him and he asking Vera "what has become of you" i hope the helps
Vera Lynn played the U.S.O. shows, for instance; we ask "What has become of good music like Pink Floyd?", we mean, that you just don't see class like Pink Floyd anymore. Vera Lynn could be seen as a ray of hope in a world torn asunder. Remember, the wall had meanings on multiple levels, not just one. While it was a herald of war on one plane, it was a psycho-social view into the effect of war on society as referenced by Pink's father dying in war, and his mother sheltering him so much.
its about his dad dying in the war. vera lynn wrote a song during wwII called well meet again, about the fathers promising to see there loved ones when they come back from the war. obviously his dad didnt come back..thats why he wrote the song..
The way waters delivers the lyric 'Does anybody else in here feel the way i do?' is simply beautiful. There is something about the song that touches you like no other. It really just shows how great an artist Roger is and I wish I could have seen the real floyd line up live

They are good, but this song is filled with raw emotion.
Although it isn't one of my favorite Floyd songs, it really describes Pink's mental status at this point in the story.

I dont wanna seem like im trying to be a "Know It All"

"someday well meet again" some... sunny... day...
