I wanted them to go out also. The only show I can think of that had best friends dating besides those shows on Nick and Disney was Dawson's Creek and the two best friends did not even end up together. If Mark wanted to make a LH a couple, I feel he could have done it in a different and interesting way. The show is still pretty amazing how it is though!
