I saw it mutiple of times and one time my uncles firends recorded it at Olelo, that video looks like the one they recorded. It was going all around and moving around changing directions and at one time it just stayed still. Then it just vanished.

I can't believe this makes the news, and I can't believe ppl won't believe they are contrails. Anyone who regularly watches the sky know that on a bright day, you can see these contrails dozens of miles away. It would not take the most advanced equipment to make accurate pictures of it...

everybody, these streaks of light are b-2 bomber military aircraft. they've been doing practice runs over all of hawaii coming from guam. one day, i saw a weird shaped cloud, but it was really a jet stream of where they flew by. that's all it is.

I'm on the south shore too and just tonight I saw a bright red light hovering, disappearing, reappearing and then fading to a pinprick which then floated down to earth. It happened right in front of my house!

On March 1st, 2009 at approx 7 pm near Wahiawa saw a missile type aircraft with a fireball behind it. It was red and blue color. It was going very fast and mysteriously disappeared. Several others had seen it miles away too. It looked like a shooting star. I thought it was going to blow up.

0:42 looks like the contrail from an aircraft in straight flight and 1:04 looks like the contrail of an aircraft changing its heading.

"That's too wide and short to be a contrail." I don't think so. I've witnessed first hand very short contrails and very wide contrails.

Hey. I saw the SAME thing in washington state 2 years ago. I got some pictures of it. But it was the EXACT same thing in the sky. Washington news team said it was jet fuel as well. Maybe? But it was streaking across the sky, then it turned and was coming in my direction, then it turned again to the right and kept going. Very agile jet! lol

The prof's "contrail" explanation is lame. That's too wide and short to be a contrail. South Shore surfers see airplanes and contrails all the time since HNL airport is just a few miles away. Think we don't know the difference? Whereas, the astronomer probably never sees them except under a full moon -- because he works at night.

Sorry, but it is clearly a contrail. Aircraft flying just above the altitude where contrails begin to form will "pull a con" which dissipates rapidly. And since they are still fairly low, they appear to be traveling more quickly than normal.

This is most likely a military plane, possibly a fighter, using a fuel formulated to reduce condensation trails. As a single-seater pilot myself, I see nothing in that video that looks unusual.

This does not make sense. The science guy at the end says it an airplane with a contrail which is totally believable until you remember that it was stated nothing was picked up on radar. Somebody needs to get their facts straight. Videos of this same object were taken in the mid west somewhere. I think it was over Colorado.

I remenber the day this happened. I was driving down on Ward St and saw it clearly. It was really shiny probably because it was reflecting off the sunlight and there was a huge smoke trail behind it. It was also going in the south direction. It was amazing but also pretty creepy. I thought that my son and I were the only ones who saw it but then I watched the news that night and saw this. I'm glad that there were others that saw it too.
