  • I watched this movie on Saturday for the first time since 2006. The movie had more of an impact on me than I anticipated. Especially this collection of images, I don't know why its had such an effect on me but it has. The slow motion has compounded the effect so I'll thank you for uploading this video. Perhaps I need to re-address my life like the character did, perhaps I have put off doing so for far, far too long.

  • @DubIA412 but maybe my problems are insignificant in comparison to your ones.

  • @DubIA412 I am too. I feel depressed. Everyone else my own age seems to be having a great time. I'm surrounded by people, but I feel lonely all the time, like my life is missing something or someone, or just people who get me for who I am and appreciate my company. I feel like second-class company to anyone I'm around. I'm unhappy with my self-image and I'm overly worried of what others think of me. I'm sick of things right now.

  • I'm going through a strange time in my life right now and for some reason this is the greatest movie I have ever seen.....

  • No. His real life was paused when he passed out in the street, the night of the club scene. Everything after that was the lucid dream.

  • did he kill that cop in real life???:O

  • Intriguing film with a fascinating and very original premise that really keeps you guessing.

A very intimate study of the human psyche when tested after some very sad chance (or seemingly so) circumstances and the choices people make under extreme stress.

  • Truly an amazing film with so much emotion

  • 2.23 looks like leonard from the big bang thoery

  • @Quittebitterbeings It is Leornard from the Big Bang theory before he was Leornard from the big bang theory

  • music= true expression of melodic beauty... love the song

  • On this day in cinema history 10 years ago (12/14/01) Vanilla Sky was released. I invite you all to celebrate with me by watching it today

  • Beth Orton in there are the beginning

  • annemie schauts gerade :)

  • Ok, I know some of the pictures from this montage. They are as follows: 0:30 Eloise from the children's books 0:34 Jerry Mathers from "Leave it to Beaver" 0:37 A photo of Tom Cruise in high school 0:40 I believe that is singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell 0:45 Director Cameron Crowe's wife at the time, Nancy Wilson 0:51 The Who performing "Won't get fooled again" 1:30 Nancy and Cameron's dog 1:35 Cameron Crowe as a boy 1:55 Billy Crudup on the set of "Almost Famous"
  • @1976ledzep 1:55 A piece of Led Zeppelin's album cover "Houses of the holy" 2:15 Blind Faith's album cover

2:20 Cameron Crowe's dog 2:22 Cameron Crowe's sister 2:31 On the set of "Almost Famous" 2:33 a cut scene from "Vanilla Sky".

  • you can find this song on the ( ) album by sigus ros. its white

  • This movie makes me rethink the statement "It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all."

  • @xxJoeDog93xx What, so you're questioning that phrase? Or because of this video, you believe in that statement more now?

  • @robs912 I'm saying sometimes maybe it's better not to have loved at all because love turned his world upside down.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx But if he had never have loved, then he would have lived his rich, playboy life and never evolved as he did through the entire film. By the end of the film David has changed so much, ever since his accident, ever since he lost his good looks and charisma that helped him so much. This end scene is a revelation for the character, and even though he may have lost some important people in his life, ultimately he's become a better person because of it. That's what I think anyway :)

  • @robs912 I never thought of it like that it's true lol

  • @xxJoeDog93xx just an interpretation :)

  • thanks for uploading this

  • Sigur Ros.

  • where can i get this version of the song?

  • @88sic type in your browser: michoopro.wrzuta.pl/audio/9MW09kCZXkh/sigur.ros.-.njosnavelin._true.original.version.from.vanilla.sky_._the.nothing.song_._untitled.4_._four_._pal.dynamic_._michoo.pro

  • my favorite movie ♥ :')

  • Could someone tell me what that ride is at 1min05??

Always wondered - looks so strange! Thanks :-)

  • @loulabelle85 They say the very few moments before your die you whole life passes by your eyes and you see actually what and what did not matter.

  • I fucking love that movie... I will forever notice a vanilla sky and question my surroundings...

  • Very good movie.

I wish I could just jump like that and it would be the end of my miserable life.

  • I'd honestly say I think I'm a lil hard so to speak but I get tears in my eyes everytime I see the end of this movie it's pretty much regret actually the whole movie shows everyones emotions throughout the whole movie love happiness regret etc jus awesome

  • This movie is one of my favorites, but just that whole last 10 minutes make me depressed.

  • "I lost you when I got into that car. I'm sorry. ....Do you remember what you told me once? That every passing minute....is another chance to turn it all around?" :) Best and saddest scene in the movie. Still a fav after all these years ;D

  • @paulgreenonline everything after the bar when he passed out if where he chose it to begin his lucid dream

  • " Do you remember what you told me once ? That every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around."

    absolutely beautiful..<3

  • OMg This Movie Made me cry!!! Its such a Great Movie!!!! i Love it!!!!

  • Everything after the car crash is a lucid dream, you know this because of the presence of the 'Vanilla skies' - Well thats what the director Cameron Crowe suggested anyway..

    Classic film ~

  • @PaulGreenOnline I thought it was once he passed out on the street? I swear it is? :S

  • @MMAPodcast So that was her voice in the end? :)

  • @MrJoshuaYoYo No it was not. In the Directors Commentary Cameron Crowe insists that its a completely different actress/character. She's a Nurse in the Future who is waking him up.

  • I good you bid evening

  • Comment removed

  • I almost wanna watch this trippin but I kinda don't cus I'm pretty sure it will fuck me 2 times when he's in the car with the crazy bitch an deff at the end

  • Watch abre los ojos, its the movie that cameron got the inspiration, there David kills a cop when arriving in LE building, by the way the name David doesn't exist in thatmovie, but there is a young penelope cruz, because its one of her first movies

  • Why was the a picture of the police man getting shot just after Tom Cruise is holding a gun,i don't remember that in the movie.

Are the makers of the movie trying to tell us something?

  • @virtue08mofo I believe that was a scene which was cut out. Possibly... Or maybe David chose not to remember that? Or maybe theyre just messing around? Or its a reference to the original film?

  • @secretmiggles yes its probaly a scene what got scraped,it wouldn't suit his character to shoot someone.

  • Nice video and amazing song ! Where did you find this version of Sigur Ros - Nothing song?

  • @Wolvy128

To answer your question, this version of Untitled Track 4 is a recording from a live performance of Sigur Ros before the song was released. It is the same version used in the movie which also was released before the album containing the song was available. I have yet to find an album containing this live version of the song. Supposedly it is not available for purchase.

  • "When did you stop caring David?" "Caring about what?" "About the consequences of the promises that you've made? "Promises??" "Ya, the promises?" "I thought......shsh get the F*ck outa here, what are you talking about?" That was a funny part because at first you're also thinking WHAT? Your joking right?

  • CAN someone xplain whos voice woke Tom up at the end?

  • @vocaltalent1 It was literally a mix of Cameron Diaz' voice but its just supposed to a be nurse or doctor.

  • @Tehyamz I hope ur right, man, bc if not...lol. Thanx.

  • @vocaltalent1

    I know who it is!

  • @vocaltalent1

A lot of people seem to get this wrong, the voice at the end speaking the words "Relax David, open your eyes' is spoken by an actress who represents the 'future' that the character of David wakes up in. The actress is Laura Fraser, you can look here up on IMDB if you like. It is definintely not Cameron Diaz or Penelope Cruz or a mixture of the two. This is as explained on the directors Cameron Crowe's commentary.

  • @Theclearthinker1 Thanks. I like some closure. I still think I should watch it again, as most ppl tend to say.

  • I only saw the start of it, but it looks like a good film. Is it about a guy who's in a crash because this stalker goes crazy, and his friends and girlfriend dessert him because his face is a bit funny and then he goes crazy. And then kills himself?

  • Just Stunning.

My heart always beats abit faster and a tear runs down my face when i watch/listen to this and think of all the beauty in the world and in my dreams. It makes me want to die and live at the same time.

Anyway I wonder if the bit where David shoots that cop was gonna be in the film or if they were just messing around.

  • 8 dis likes ......that means they dont know there is no were to go, and they live in hell now !not a place u go.....good luck obtuse f u c k s

  • vanilla sky had everything for everyone....fans of romance/scifi/horror and the dudes that hate tom cruise got to see him jump off a really really really REALLY tall building!

  • 141 people only thing that matters if you don't think so have fun in hell

  • Relax David, open your eyes.

  • a modern day tradgedy

  • That was very cool. just saw a glimpse of a few shots that they could have used in the film. great stuff.

  • why was audrey hepburn so sad???

  • i think this film started the "bloom effect" visuals that is now very popular in video games.

  • great picture of Cruise during his wrestling days prolly highschool.

  • i cry every single time i watch this.

  • @jes61787 u are a pussy

  • i havent seen this film in a few years, what am i looking for when you slow the video down.answer please tahnks.

  • The sheer heartbreak.

  • UTUBE why didnt anybody tell me......it is far better to see the universe as it truly is,than to persit delusion however satisfying and reassuring it is.just look up at the stars at night and know there is no end and no were to go.you can use my idea for your life from non life...........you are telling me from absolutey nothing came a thing called GOD,then he made the whole universe and everthing in it,what would he made everthing from himself

  • This is awesome. Thank you.

  • dazzlingly beautiful

  • @FredLabosch84 the song may be beautiful, but the scene with the guy jumping off a roof is sad

  • Im never going to fall in love because it will be extremely sad when they die and i will probably commit suicide.

  • @diabloprey

    good idea. love sucks. lol

  • @ChinarEsRos But it sounds great at the same time, i was picturing being tom cruise in the situation and i was like why the fuck did he jump off the building when he will never see her again.

  • Ohh, this was beautiful. There's so much easily missed. Thank you!

  • IM IN A LUCID DREAM AS I TYPE THIS * THIS SONG IS MY TECH SUPPORT WHEN MY DREAM BECOMES A NIGHTMARE IT AWAKES ME INTO ANOTHER DREAM WORLD WHERE I CONTROL AGAIN * PEOPLE REALIZE AS WE ARE ALL ARE USING YOUTUBE WE ARE ALL REALLY IN LUCID DREAM

  • the voice of penelope cruz ...

penelope cruz revive in final, if not that, the film loses sense

  • louis 349 or whateve,r true that, the film tells what the feck its about!

  • I really really love this song and movie!!

  • i see this movie in a birthday( strange but is true) , and it is the best movie ever, i think it shows really what is to like some person besides everything. saudações de Portugal

  • I added this movie clip to my favourites about a year ago. There was much dicussion then and it is nice to see that there still is. This movie moved me more than any else. I think it made understand something...If I only know what the something is. Great movie, great soundtrack and great people discussing it here. :)

  • i meant aware* you are dreami

  • i thought the movie was about the spectrum of emotion and the ''universe'' in each person. all of his feelings for camern diez he "'takes out'' on penelope who he only met once by switching their faces with his subconscience. and a lucid dream is when you are away you are dreamin. throughout most of the movi he had awaken from penelope saying open your eyes, and at the end he wakes up to cameron saying open your eyes

  • Thank you so much. I've tried loads of times to capture these on the DVD and failed. Well done. Best fucking film ever

  • Thank you for this. Its awesome to see it slowed way, way down and be able to see things like patrick fugit and kate hudson as well as billy crudup from almost famous. I never knew that their images were in this movie and it is one of my all time favorites.

  • I say this with all due respect and in the nicest way possible. YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL F#%#ing CRAZY- LOL WATCH THE F###ing MOVIE. THEY TELL YOU EVERYTHING-LOL

  • cameron diaz should be heroin:)

  • This movie always had a strong effect on me. It always, ALWAYS confuses me.

I dont understand a thing from the beggining to the end =/

  • Nausy I want to have you in my mind forever...Rob

  • I believe he was still in a comma caused by the car accident when he dreamt all of this, at least that wouldve been the best ending for me...

  • @DRZREALEST well when you think about it theres a short scene right after he crashes where he talks to sophia about the crash and he has a normal face and he says it was a crazy dream

but in the other hand how in his comma could he have known about the crash and or how he looked like

its like inception dude the ending is up to you

  • @ploderino i know but think about it, he saw something on tv about benny the dog, since he was in a comma he couldve invented the whole thing, and he did know he was in a car accident... what i didnt understand was how cameron diaz character knew that she was his fuck buddy..

  • @DRZREALEST

idk it seems to complicated for him to just imagine that but u might be right

i think his best friend told cameron diaz at that party when he was drunk

because after the accident when tom cruise was drunk and he confronted his best friend about it and u could tell he was lying , he couldnt keep eye contact

  • there's Jonny Galecki (lenard of Big bang theory) at 2:22

  • he hitts the ground at 1:50

  • damn this movie, damn this movie to hell.

  • i want the elevator scene before this one...i cant find it anywhere tho :/

  • Ok, I have watched the movie probably a thousand times, and I get most of the messages..But..there is the point in the movie where David is arrested for the murder of Sophia and his attorney comes to the Police Station and there is a loud clanging bell that appears to catch both of them off guard, yet it happens twice in that scene so it is not an accident.............Yet nobody can explain what it means. anyone know????

  • @bernncross What that is (and what all these people refuse to get about this movie-thus all these crazy ideas) is that he is in the lucid dream which is going haywhire. Things are going wrong, bells ringing, people changing. It doesn't MEAN anything significant. Cameron Crowe put a couple of things- like the car registration sticker- which lead people down dead ends, his fault. Look at the whole picture people

  • I'll see you in another life, when we are both cats.

  • Hey dude fix your fuking face....

  • Yes I love this movie I watch it every year to :)

  • I found that this movie carries a funny subliminal theme in that only if you have "wrath of god money" like David Ames, you will experience a custom built heaven or a heaven at all for that matter. Is there a heaven for us poor folks? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

  • @Gumbyism What you should retain from this movie is that happinnes truly comes from your own mind. That's how I see it, no matter what he has in life, what I have and what you have, it all comes down to: can you accept your life, appreciate it, and live it happily to the fullest. Because after all, you won't have a second chance to do this, eternal lucid dreams don't exist for no one, you've got to create a happy life with the power of your mind ... NOW! That's right, NOW! not later!! now!!

  • @2CSST2 YES! That's exactly the meaning I get from the film. You said it perfectly. Thankyou!

  • @2CSST2 David Aames is asked twice in the movie "What is happiness to you?"

  • I've done this to this part of the movie as well, cool images. Try to do it with the film "Blow" wih Johnny Depp. During the part when they're making millions being cocaine dealers "blinded bythe Light" comes on by Manfred Mann and the director throws loads of images at you really fast. Play them slow and you will see Charlie Chaplin buying cocain from Johnny.

  • loved the real ending! lol no words to say how much of an incredible director cameron crowe is.

  • so is he still dreaming when he wakes up at the end.

  • @Only1Kanoli No. It's him all thawed out.

  • i first saw this film at a young age never understood it and now for the last 4 years i have watched it religiously, what amazing that can trigger something off in your head of an amazing idea and so different to so many people, this is why i want to go into film

  • @Dpapa0 I hope to one day make a movie like this.

  • who was Ellie

  • @Ghernanjose L.E. The Life Extension company

  • i am pretty sure that the whole thing was a dream....if you look closely at the scene where david and bryan are in the car, the sticker on the windshield says FEB 30, 2001....there is no february 30th in the gregorian calendar. but i'm still not sure cuz crowe says he intended for it to be a dream when david wakes up on the street and there is the first image of vanilla skys

  • @blinkpunk321 yeah, the tech support guy said at the end that his dream began where he passed out on the sidewalk.

  • ...consequences david!!!

  • is this REALLY the video ending to the film? I just noticed the "Houses of the Holy" cover, as well as "Blind Faith"?!?!? cool stuff man.

  • Every passing minute is a another chance to turn it all around - Amazing

  • completely different, everything changed. My life has turned around completely and mean completely. Not one person in my life at that time is a part of it now I am happy and I honestly forgot what happiness was for a long time.

  • I saw this movie once when I was really going through hard times when the movie went off I stood up and yelled as loud as I could " Tech Suppoooooort Im having a nightmaaare " about three times or so while really believing that it would work and I swear to god it really worked. At that time my life had been a real nightmare for about twelve years and right at that moment no tech support guy ever showed and everything didn't change immediately but in about three months from that time my life was

  • Love Penelope Lips 2:42

  • @Rockspider2 Cool LOL- just read another comment that it was all a dream so i'm going to go kill myself now-LOL. i'll let you know if cryonics works in 100 years or so. BTW I think the original movie SUCKS. So you can all shoot me for that also. Cameron Crowe loves all this debate about what really happened since it draws attention to his movie- so F#%K Him also-LOL. Hope this is all settled when I come out of my Lucid Nightmare. I'm sure I could get one of you to kill me-LOL

  • @Rockspider2 yes...its called existentialism/absurdism.

  • @Rockspider2 It's like if you are on a jury and you are a specialist in something. They want you to just judge on the evidence presented, not on your special private knowledge. You may know all about cryonics- I don't think the story was told for people who know the specifics of cryonic theory. To the rest of us we take the story as told. In this setting they can take a dead person and revive him 100, 150 years later. change the story debating what may be impossible any way, you know?

  • ON THE BEGINING OF THE MOVIE THERE IS PENELOPES VOICE,AND THE LAST WORDS ARE ALSO FROM PENELOPE, ITS LIKE A CLOSE CIRCLE; THATS A TRUE MOVIE!!!

  • @Elenai89 you just stole my idea

  • THAT IS PENELOPE CRUZ VOICE AT THE END. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. I CANT BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE CANT HEAR IT. ITS DISGUISED. BUT ITS HER.

  • @bradyischamp I just put on the ending again and I see what you mean, there IS a little accent, but If it is Cruz she isn't using Sofia's accent. I don't think we should change the whole story based on weather or not it's Cruz' voice. I don't think that's a signal to say "ahaa! their telling us the whole thing is a dream" anyway that's what I think. Good looking out

  • i love this ending! even thought its sad to me, it has alot of beauty.

  • @Rockspider2 He is dead in his Cryo-sleep and they resusitate him in the future. It's different than the suspended animation in Alien or planet of the apes. I'm not vouching for the technology but that's what happens in the movie

  • The movie tells you exactly what happens. There is no reason for the whole ending and explanation if it is all a dream, which would be silly. The story is perfect as it's given to us. The ending tells us everything. But I surrender. I only bothered because I love this movie. Fine- it's a dream, it's a coma, the movie is meaningless then. "consequences David"

  • the WHOLE FILM is a dream. at the very beginning when he wakes up, its her voice on his alarm clock. hes already met her and just keeps repeating this process.

  • this is way cool !why is the dude from roesanne and big bang theory flashed in the middle!! crazy weird! theres some wacky things flashed in there but thats awsome!!

  • this is way cool but why is the dude from roesanne and big bang theory flashed in the middle!! crazy weird!

  • if he simply woke up from his cryo sleep then why did sofia (yes that is her voice) tell him to open his eyes (after the fall)? or was he in a coma?

if its waking up from a cryo sleep, then maybe the director made a huge mistake having sofia ask him to wake up? that seems to be whats confusing a lot of people.

  • @bradyischamp NO it isn't her voice. Listen to it, there isn't any spanish accent. It is the voice of the (doctor, nurse, tech, whatever) person in the future waking him up 150 years later. But by all means if you want to think it's all a dream - taking away all the meaning from the movie- go for it.

  • @louis34997

there is DEFINITELY A SPANISH ACCENT IN HER VOICE AT THE END. THAT IS DEFINITELY PENELOPE CRUZ' VOICE.

cameron crowe fucked up there at the ending. he confused you and me. but i am correct, sorry hermano.

  • thanks for making this, you did a good job.

  • if the original does not have sigur ros in the back ground than is not as epic as this one sorry

  • sometimes I have dreams like that... they feel so lucid at times I don't want to wake up or can't differentiate if it happened for real. I relate to this movie in the sense of loving someone and then other forces that pull you down etc... and then being in a state of confusion and loss. This movie is quite cerebral, brilliant.

  • Wow! You found the version from the movie.. I've been trying to find this version for years.. Thank you so much. I appreciate you sharing it.

  • Abre los ojos, the original, is so much better

  • Abre tus ojos, the original is so much better

  • My all time favorite movie. Not because it was brilliant like The Godfather, or that it was empathetic like Shawshank Redemption, but only because it spoke to me personally. After watching Vanilla Sky, I feel like I have lived a life, and that is David Ames' life. I learned a lot from it, and it still is one of the few movies, if not the only movie that can bring goosebumps from within in a good way. Best decision on a movie I ever made, and I watched it 8 years after it was made. ;)

  • @TheAstonMartian That's exactly how I feel & I too first watched it in all of it's glory for the first time in 2009.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx Yeah, I finished my last exam that day. I watched the trailer in the morning, and made up my mind about going to the video store that day, and bring it. My first viewing confused me, and did not sink well. After reading the explanations, I have since understood how tragic the movie truly is. Brian lost a friend, Julie died because of David's selfishness, David committed suicide because of his own insecurity, and Sofia lost the man who she wanted the most. All in all, it was cold.

  • @TheAstonMartian Thats what I love about the movie, there are so many ways to interprit it. Even years later I still see people coming up with new interpritations.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx Well, I think the answer is already there. If you are not really sure, then the original is more detailed about that aspect, and does help me look at the movie from a linear perspective. Even though David would wake up, he has already lost a significant portion of his wealth, and Sofia. He did not just love Sofia, but he adored her. His subconscious made her so much more lovable, and perfect to the point, that when he wakes up, there will be a huge hole in his heart due to reality.

  • @TheAstonMartian This is what I mean. You just presented an entirely new way for me to look at the movie. It seems like everyone who watches that movie could take it a little differently. But that is what I love about the movie so much.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx Well, I did love his lifestyle, his wealth, his car, his women, his penthouse, etc. etc., but his attitude was to shallow. At least in the remake, he was more likable, but in the original, it was a pure psychological thriller with a narcissist protagonist. This movie is too sugercoated to make it dream like even when it was horrible, while the original was more or less a pure nightmare. What's your interpretation?

  • @TheAstonMartian Mine is a little more simple. "Money Can't buy happiness" He has all the money & possessions in the world but he isn't happy without Sofia and he spent all of his money on his lucid dream and he still wasn't happy. "Not even in his dreams" could he have the woman he loved.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx Nice. Well, he was happy, but as the movie emphasized, "consequences", he suffered as a result of his actions rather than his wealth. He was shallow, and destroyed Julie's dream. As a result, he lost his looks with the accident. After that, he lost his confidence, and Sofia was scared away. Lucidity wasn't the answer, as it was not perfect. He finds out that after his death, Sofia was never really happy, and that only provokes him to wake up, and live life for the 2nd time.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx Man, that's sad. But so true. Spot on man.

  • @xxJoeDog93xx They say "the truth will out". We try to hide from it, like kittens who think that if they cover their eyes you can't see them, but it always finds us. In the end you can get more done, can *be* more, if you just embrace it. But sometimes, like in the film, it takes a while to figure that out.
