  • What book is the one you read at the end of the video? I can't make out the title! Is it interesting?

  • 糞どうでもいい動画だけど音楽は素晴らしいね!クラリネット、フルート、ファゴット、ピアノ……よくわからないけど、映画音楽か何かかな?

  • Oh and you're really tall! Or is your house just small?

  • @TheAbbiexD The house was small because it's made for Japanese people and I'm 6' tall. My wife payed the bills, but I eventually found work as an English teacher. I lived there for 1.5 years, but now am back in Canada working as a power engineer. Thanks for watching!

  • @RisuMiso Oh & you're really skinny for a man your age no offance & how much do you weigh?

  • How do you pay bills?

  • WOW! this is exactly what i have been doing everyday now for the past couple of months. i can totally relate! its such a pain waiting for a reply when you don't even know if they're even going to msg or call you back. thanks for making me realized how much time i have wasted. now i'm gonna go out and try harder. seriously, being a neet is not cool or fun at all! sigh~ hope i get employed soon. hate waiting! >.<

  • @TRANJTHAO Good luck!

  • (cont.) mainly because it's a 'Man vs. Himself' scenario. the only one at loss is the man, and the only one to destroy the man is himself. it's great that you are dealing with it in stride.

continue to do your best !!

  • Fantastic Video!! it don't get more black & white than that representation.

what sucks about being in that type of situation is that from others perspectives it would seem that you aren't looking for a job but just browsing the internet for nonsense, or instead of physically going out to places inquiring on a job position they'll say 'you've been going out a lot lately.. how come you couldn't ask for a job during that time?..' it's a very, very frustrating predicament.

  • creativity and expression, free internet at its best.

  • Congratulations! Great video! This video recalls my toughest experience as an unemployed foreign immigrant from Japan to Australia. Just like you have gone through, I finally had a full time job after being unemployed for 8 months. I applied 400 positions total and managed to get 20 interviews which is 5%, and then luckily got only 1 job which is 0.25%. I still remember how much I appreciated the opportunity and mysterious encounter in somewhere I didn't have a clue. Life is interesting!

  • Nice to hear your story! Sounds like you are having a very similar experience! It's difficult living in a foreign country but it sure cuts the boring part of life down to a minimum. Also the broadening of the mind is invaluable. Congratulations on your job!

  • Wow, what a quick response!

Well, that was what I experienced several years ago and now I'm back in Japan and working as an engineer in automotive industry.

I totally agree with you, I mean "invaluable". And I think I could say that was my very first experience ever in my life I really appreciated "everything"

    Enjoy your Japan life!

  • Haha, I just happened to be youtubing when you commented! I like Japan, but right now it's sometimes frustrating due to my low language ability. I'm working hard at it so I can get back to working in industry though. It feels like that part of my life is on hold for now. But on the plus side it's improving my patience and self-discipline "skills?".

  • You are right! You are self learning patience and self-discipline skills in toughest bushido way!

Regarding to your career, have you thought about becoming an auditor to check compliance of factories, plants, or that sort with international standard while you are still learning Japanese language, as a first step to reach to your destination in your career?

  • It never crossed my mind to look into auditing, but to tell you the truth I always hated those guys when they came to my plant. I think they are important, I just don't think I would enjoy it (I also don't have a mec/chem eng degree). I'm just going to focus on Japanese, it's my biggest obstacle for now. Then I can get back to playing with electricity and/or steam.

  • Right, you prefer a hands-on job? I have seen quite a few foreign auditors to my office and plant and found one guy who was self leaning Japanese with textbook during the break time.

In Japan, most manufactures are so keen to reduce power consumption and emissions (gas, noise, heat, industrial waste etc..) while maintaining production efficiency, so I think there are a lot of chances for you to get your ideal job once you remove your "obstacle".

    がんばって!

  • Congrats on the new job! Funny video...it sucks being unemployed.

  • Thanks, it's good to be working again. I'm glad you enjoyed the video though!

  • Ah, those were the days! :p

  • How did you end up unemployed?

  • I quit my job and moved to Japan, that's how! I'm no longer unemployed though. Teaching the kiddies 英語。

  • my dream job is to be jobless in tokyo.

  • oh.. i see you chose the cheap prepaid phone.. :3

  • Yeah, they are a good option when you don't have a job or many people to call. Plus once you get a real phone you can keep the old one as a spare for when people come visit you. I think I'm going to get an iphone eventually. Japanese phones are cool, but I still think the iphone is better for what I want/need.

  • yeah youre right.. i chose the "expensive" one just bcs i fell for the "japanesephonesaresocool" thing..

  • Awesome video pretty much what my typical day was like when i was unemployed in Japan

  • My day isn't like this anymore. I don't have much time for reading, I just study Japanese all day long now.

  • at the end, your reading a jack kerouac book, thats is my dads uncle lol, dono I just wonted to point that out for no particular reason xD

  • that's cool. i already got a feeling of what the outside of japan looked like from that window. weird...five stars though.

  • This video is funny. I would be lying if I said that this video didn't inspire me to make my first video because it did. Thanks man!

  • Haha, I thought it might have. I didn't do anything new in this video myself. It's fun to do though.

  • Yea it was fun to do and great to entertain others with the boring crap I do all day...

  • Hi, man.

I am Japanese living in your country.

I have had hard time to find a good job, so exactly know how you feel. And I was living in east side of Vancouver.

Anyway, why don't you improve your Japanese quickly and find a similar job you did in Canada?

  • Hello! We traded countries with each other! Vancouver is a beautiful (and warm) city in Canada. Do you like it?

I am working very hard at learning Japanese. I have made it pretty much my full time job outside of looking for an actual job. I was a power engineer in Canada, and would like to do that again in maybe a few years once I'm fluent. Until then I'm trying to find an English teaching job.

    Thanks for the comments!

  • I very much like Vancouver and Canada.

I will choose to be a bum in here than in Japan.

But I will leave Canada for good in a few days for Yokohama Japan.

I will be an English teacher too, haha, but not coversation teacher but grammar teacher.

  • Haha, maybe I should change 'bum' to 'house husband actively seeking employment, while studying kanji like a madman'. Bum is just easier to say!

I'm finishing up a TEFL course right now, that should better prepare me for an English teaching job. I dread teaching grammar, I find it very boring if it's direct grammar. Overall I'd way rather learn Japanese as a second language, than learn English!

Were you in Canada for a course?

  • Good luck on your job hunting!

I went to a university in New Brunswick.

Yes, New Brunswick, which no Japanese ever k\now.

I loved being there although I was in a shock when I got there for the first time. I grew up in Tokyo area, haha.

  • Wow, that must have been quite the experience! I've never been to the East coast of Canada. I lived in various parts of Alberta. The furthest East I ever visited was Montreal.

It's interesting and challenging to live in another country. It sure makes life interesting though!

  • ha! i love reading too *_* ive even started writing some stuff but i have no time to continue due to my studies T_T

  • That's good! I haven't had much time to read lately either. I've been studying kanji and TEFL from the moment I wake until I go to bed. I'll be done my TEFL course soon though.

  • oh you study japanese? me too but how come? you want a certificate maybe, as I do.....but y? do u plan on living in japan some day xDDD?

  • Haha. I live in Japan! This is probably my only video not about Japan. おもしろいね!

  • haha! yes, its very interesting! argh, man, i so envy you T_T i would love so much to live there as well :(

  • 僕も :(

  • :( well one day we'll go there for sure xD

  • lol o noes! this looks like the future for me LAWL except id probably be playing a pc game rather then reading which is even worse :P

  • Haha, yup! Reading is good for your brain! Today I studied English teaching for a couple hours then studied Kanji for about three. I don't feel guilty about days like that.

  • out of curiosity Ry, how much books have to read since moving?

  • I've read four 1000 page novels, and three other less epic novels in the last 6 months. I've had some periods of reading laziness, but for the most part I read everyday though. Lately I don't have as much time between my TEFL course, Japanese, job hunting, and I've been making too many youtube videos!

  • Nice vid - Linda Linda by the Blue Hearts FTW!

I too am daily trolling for a new job - and finding that 5 years spent in Japan teaching English doesn't really qualify me to do much of anything.... :)

  • Yeah, I need to learn all of it for karaoke!

I don't understand why you left Japan. I know you have a limit with JET, but couldn't you have just applied to a private school and got them to sponsor you? If that is too personal, feel free not to answer. I think it is hard to find a job doing anything anywhere right now. The global economy has seen better days.

  • My mother is ill, so now was a good time to be home for a bit and take a short break from Japan, but I do hope to be back in 2010.

  • Good of you to be with her, hope she gets better soon! Maybe I'll even get a chance to meet up with you one day when you return.

  • I'm currently in the same situation and it gets kinda depressing after a while lol

    anyway nice vid

  • It does, but you just need to keep your chin up. Eventually you'll find something.

  • Hahaha funny

  • Thanks for watching!

  • This is a great video dude!

  • Glad you liked it!

  • lol same as me atm gambatte

  • Good luck, and keep your chin up!

  • I haven't seen a band play live for ages and I live in London! In fact it was Ian Dury and the Blockheads and he's dead now. Sure you'll see plenty in Tokyo.

  • Yeah, Edmonton where I used to live had a great music scene. I still need to worm my way into the one in Tokyo. I've only been to one show here so far, but it was a lot of fun.

  • Clash,Ramones,Stranglers and Gary Newman tunes on my Channel to cheer you up (and many more on theirs).

    Enjoy.

I think Bluesheeft will like it too.

  • Is that other channel yours? I just watched the Ramones cover on ukulele, made my day even if it isn't you!

  • No it's not me. I found the channel a while ago and seeing that bluesheeft had faved George Formby on his channel reminded me of it. I saw the Ramones play in Sheffield (UK) years ago, great band.

  • I would have loved to have seen them. I never got a chance to check them out living in the middle of nowhere in my igloo of a country.

  • Good luck finding a job. 頑張ってね!

  • ありがとう!

  • Good luck in finding a job! What a life! Does your wife work? Take advantage of being a house-husband for a short while!

Sending good luck thoughts through the looking glass. ƙarolyn

  • Thanks! Yeah my wife works, and I'm not a complete bum, I brought over substantial savings when I moved. But at least we won't be on the street if they run out before I find work. Men go crazy being "house-husbands" though. I need to hunt and gather!

Lewis Carroll is one of the many authors on my long list of things I need to read before I die.

  • You will have fun reading both Alice in Wonderland and my favorite Through the Looking-glass...There is a very interesting Tim Burton film coming very soon on Ailce in Wonderland. He is the only film maker that could tackle such a challenging story. By the way I found you on BusanKevin channel. K

  • It seems like a story Tim Burton would take on and very likely do well. BusanKevin is awesome, thanks for checking out my channel!

  • Nice video, best one so far with all the different camera angles.

By the way, does that Japanese tap water taste good?

  • It doesn't bother me at all. My wife won't drink it, so she buys water. Tastes like tap water to me.

  • Man, hopefully you find a job soon! I know I'm looking for one myself.

  • Come to Japan, lots of jobs with your type of degree!

  • Hahaha that's certainly an option!

  • DO IT!

  • Likely, it won't be for a long while.

Hey, shoot me an email or FB message or whatever!

    OR I WILL.

  • I will later, gotta go to my job placement thing.

  • i really like ur tatoos ;)

  • Thanks! Maybe I'll make a video of them eventually.

  • oh really? that would be great *_*

  • I wouldn't bother going far tomorrow there's suposed to be a typhoon on it's way. I'm getting a bit worried coz I'm flying in on Friday. Good luck with the job hunting I'm sure you'll be ok.

  • Earthquake yesterday, typhoon tomorrow. Experiencing all sorts of new-to-me nature. Unfortunately, tomorrow is my appointment with the government job placement (hello work). I wouldn't want someone to take my metro gum scraping job because I was scared of a typhoon! Have a safe flight!

  • Cheers. All the best with the placement.

  • Good luck with job hunting!

I saw you were looking at the wikipedia page for Linda Linda! I LOVE this song. It reminds me so much of my time in Japan! ^^ Blue hearts FTW!

  • Haha, good eye! Yeah I recently discovered Blue hearts, they kick ass. They have a similar style to The Clash, another band I also love.

  • haha that sucks man, been there. Hope you get a great job. I'm unemployed now in the U.S.A. I speak English I have no excuse! lol.

  • Worldwide recession doesn't help anyone find a job. Good luck in your search as well!

  • yeah true dat. Thanks, you too.

  • Go for the job those chicks have that hand out the little packets of promotional tissues near train stations. Everyone needs tissues!

  • Hopefully my situation doesn't reach that point!

  • Couldn't you and Bluesheeft just go and apply to the big english teaching companies like ECC, Interac and the others and see what you can land?. Just an idea.

  • Bluesheeft isn't worried, he has a degree and is still looking for work in his field. He could land a teaching job pretty easy if he wanted. I've applied to interac, but I don't have a degree, so it makes things more difficult. I went to college to run power plants, and now I wish I would have gone to university. I never planned to end up in Japan, sometimes life just happens. I'm persistent though, so I'll find something. Thanks for the ideas though.

  • ahaha good video!!!

  • ty!

  • Well made vid : )

  • Thanks for watching!

  • I quite enjoyed that! I was laughing my ass off when you took out the blanket. I found that so funny for some reason :D?

  • Everyone likes to be comfortable at work!

  • heh. creative. I applied for two things today, so am going to treat myself a little..

    .. choo choo..

  • I haven't started my search yet. Off to hello work tomorrow though! Have fun with TTD, I've never played it solo.

  • Haha, yes.

  • Boredom inspires me.

  • well done. nice vid.

  • Glad you liked it!
