Then Unmasked came out...I was so bummed out at the poppy sound. Then I got suicidal when kiss put out The Elder album. Found my happy place again with Creatures.

I guess I was referring to the time when these albums I mention first came out. It was culture shock for me personally. I agree that Ace's songs on Unmasked were some of his finest contributions. His '78 solo album was by far his best work during Kiss.

note how the kiss logo at the beginning is different. that's because in germany you can't have any symbols that look like the SS symbol. obviously, kiss' logo does, so despite two of the members being jewish, they were still not allowed to use it there (and they still aren't).

What Gene did wrong starting with his solo album is that he wrote songs that when he sung them in his demon persona did not match up. The same is true for the rest of KISS in the late later phase of their make up but more so for Gene. They finally got the formula right again with Creatures but by then the fan base dwindled down so they had to go without make up.

Notice the modified Kiss logo. Being they were playing in Germany, the S's in Kiss' logo looked too musk like the nasi SS which has been banned in Germany so they had to make the S's look less like the nazi SS.
