  • Beautiful

  • @neoguyneo123

Gerry is awesome. But this Phantom so cute!!!! XD

  • Okay I wouldn't like someone dumping a suitcase of rats on me...but I don't think I'd be THAT affected by it!!! Carlotta=drama queen....a very entertaining drama queen!!! XD

  • Carlotta's not crazy she's been smoking some "know what"

  • Comment removed

  • I'm curious to know why Christine changed into the white dress.

  • How can someone freak out like that because of some small rats?? :D

  • @Kaddinx Well, seeing them is one thing, having them thrown on you is another! ;p

  • @Kaddinx I'd freak out too if someone in a mask came into my room and threw a bunch of rats on me...

  • @neoguyneo123

so true.. not that i don't think he was cute in 2004 or the ittalian one-

-but that one was messed up

  • 6:51 wow, Erik is kinda stalker-ish... O.o

  • lol, Carlotta was so freaked out!!! xD

somebody send her to the looney bin!

  • Ahhh, I love that. "A rat for a rat." Oh, Erik. You're amazing xP

  • This was really disturbing. You need that element with the phantom, I guess.

  • carlotta is so annoying

  • I don't fully understand the whole thing with the baby doll's head (why hang it upside down?) but it creeps me out nonetheless.

I think Erik has successfully scarred Carlotta for life...mentally. "The rats! The rats!" Hahaha!

And I love the music in this. It's so beautiful, and then wonderfully creepy when it needs to be.

  • @phangirl1986 The babies head is hung upside down to represent how his own mother betrayed him and disfigured him for her own gain, hope that helps clear things up ^^

  • @MissPhantomMania But I thought Erik saw his mother in a good light in this version, as she didn't mistreat him in stark contrast to the book(s)?

  • @TheJazzyBReal But he would of found out somehow, most likley from his father, that his mother had tried for an abortion and he would most likley of believed it was because of him hence making him feel rejected and unloved. He saw his mother in good light for her looks and musical talent. That's my own personal view anyways ^w^ Hope this helps

  • @MissPhantomMania Hm, it was never referenced that Erik felt this way or knew about the events before his birth since he continued to cherish her. I think Pops avoided mentioning anything of her to him, so he goes off childhood memory alone. If not, he would've seen Christine as something to hate rather than fall in love with. This version kept attaching the fact that his mother was the only person that loved him in his eyes to Christine loving him in the same way [in his mind, anyway :) ].

  • ooohhh he's got that swishy cape epicness that i love so much XD I have to say that one of the best parts of Erik's wardrobe. The cape just add's soo much to it

  • @MissCuriousXxX i second that! lol

  • @neoguyneo123 You just named my two favorite ALW Phantoms of all time! Ramin Karimloo and John Cudia and simply glorious! :)

  • @neoguyneo123 I understand your point completely. I believe, though, that the majority are speaking of the actor or as if this version of Erik existed as is seen in the movie. I said so in a comment to the part before this one, but I will say it again. Erik may not be handsome (in his true appearance, as described in the books) but this adaption of him has a big beautiful heart. Much more so than most.

  • @ToxisGrey I agree with both yours and neoguyneo123's statement. Like you said his true appearence isn't handsome but in some versions he is. That's just Hollywood for you though. They tend to use handsome guys lol.

  • @neoguyneo123 I'm a Gerry fan, and I am listening. I consider him to be totally his own, not really a phantom, just his own thing haha. But he is way too attractive.

  • This version would be the *perfect* Phantom-- minus the "she's his mother" sub-plot and the creepy baby head . . .

  • @OvaltineEucerin That's a part of Kay's book as well. Christine looks exactly like Erik's mother.

  • @MissAliGrace

Yep. Its also part of the original musical production of this version. But it seems they intensified it even more for this television version, by having the same actress play both parts. It was an interesting creative decision to do that, but I don't know if I care for it, because it so precludes the possibility that Erik and Christine can be a valid romantic couple, if she's primarily a stand-in for his mother.

  • @OvaltineEucerin The question of whether Erik and Christine can be a real couple is actually explored in tons of different versions. In the Max Schell version, he loves her because she looks exactly like his dead wife (another version where the love interests are the same actress). In the Lom version, there's really no romantic interest at all. In Phantom of Paradise (ugh shudder), there's also a real distinct lack of romance between the EC characters. It's interesting, but not for romantics! :)

  • @neoguyneo123 I KNOW!!! it is so irritating. Ok, maybe the actors that play the phantom are attractive in real life, but their character is grotesque, NOT HOT, or CUTE!!! I understand your frustration man.....

  • @neoguyneo123 - pukes - Oh no. "Good lord man. She's. Your. DAUGHTER!" - PhantomReviewer. Yeah, Christine was played by the director's daughter. That film was just... noooo.

  • @neoguyneo123 I was such a Gerry fangirl until I saw this. It changed my life. :)

  • LOL< this is definitely different from the 2004 version, but it's good. I guess in terms of which phantom movie is closest to the original story, I'll have to read the book in order to know for sure

  • @neoguyneo123 I find Charles Dance ADORABLE as the phantom, however Gerard is definitely sexier. They're just different, but I love them both.

  • @neoguyneo123 he's not that bad. T-T but i understand where you are coming from. If they would have casted Ramin, I would have had a heart attack. I loved him in Les Mis and he makes a superb phantom! ^-^

  • @neoguyneo123

I'm a Gerry fangirl, a Lon Chaney fangirl and A leroux fangirl. I know that Erik isn't supposed to be gorgeous. It is his voice that counts(:

  • thts right stand up for the one you love eric punish those who hurt her >.<

  • i think it's pretty funny that Erik has not just ine mask on.. but two! XD huh

  • I think Gerry played Erik very well. I love the 2004 version. But that one is great too.

  • Anyone else notice that the sound of wind is audible in the "underground cellar"? ._.

  • Where Erik live, I can´t live!!! I can´t sleep there! Its so horrible there!!!

  • I support noseless Erik. Read the books. Kay/Leroux FTW!

  • @neoguyneo123 I agree with you. Gerry (though I love the man) should not have played Erik. I mean, the guy is a chain smoker. He's not going to be a great singer. Of course he's sexy, but Erik isn't supposed to be sexy! His non-sexiness is the reason why his story is so popular!

  • Can someone explain to me what's up with the creepy doll...

  • @musicalover4eva110 Someone once commented somewhere here that the doll represents how Erik looks, instead of us actually seeing it. I suppose, as a child, he destroyed the doll like this, pulling its head off, in terror and disgust of himself. Poor Erik! And I agree, it is a bit creepy...

  • @MrsJosephMerrick A BIT creepy? There's the twisted Erik we know and love: pulling the heads off little babies since he was a child! :D

  • @ShadowinEX Awwww!Iknow youre joking, but its sad really...Imagine poor little Erik defacing the doll to look like himself, and hanging it up by his beautiful mother for comparison(this is how I imagine it was meant). Yes, it IS creepy, and he IS a bit crazy, but you cant blame him for that - and making up an entire world for himself under the Op HOuse because he feels so alone!!!*tears*

  • @MrsJosephMerrick

That's an interesting point. That's one thing I can't figure out-- what exactly IS wrong with his face? SO based on the doll's markings, it just looks like some red scratches over the eyes and across the sides of the chin-- nothing so scary about that? I think it was actually a better decision that they didn't show us his face, but having so many open hints and teases about what his face looks like is frustrating.

  • @OvaltineEucerin I reread my comment and I think now that maybe poor little Erik just defaced the doll out of disgust for himself, its not exactly how he looks -anyway, it WAS someones esles idea, not mine. When they show the flashback of boy Erik wandering around to look in the lake at himself, he seems to have a hairy face??Its really weird. Not scarey, just strange.I really thinkChris's reaction is totally uncalled for!But I agree, it IS frustrating, as much as I love this version!:)

  • 1. Rats are cute and as long as they don't carry diseases you shouldn't afraid of them

    2. That doll always freaked me out when I was little...and it still does!

    3. Carlotta is very funny! :DDD I can speak Japanese so I can read the subtitles which makes it funnier. Nezumi, nezumi!!!! (rat/mouse in Japanese)

  • his pranks are funy until some-one goes insane

  • I swear Carlotta is off her rocker... -_-;

This is the second time I've watched it and I say...

Erik is the best! - also this is a lot better than the version that came out in 2004

v_v forgive me but I feel it in my heart that it is true...

  • Carlotta is a little crazy... 0.o

  • @neoguyneo123 sex sells, dear xD

  • So funny when he just dumps a box of rats onto her! I agree this is one of the bezt potos I have seen, just cos in a way it's more realistic.

  • Oh, I know. I hated that version. It wasn't even close to the real story. That phantom didnt even wear a mask (though he should have to help the viewers...he was weird looking without the facial deformity)

  • @rayna181 I didnt like the actual fim either, but I'm a Julian Sands fan, and I thought he was lovely( apart from the gorey bits, yuk, er , and the rats, weird). Its a shame, cos hes a good actor, lovely voice, sexy (in my opinion) - but why did he take the part???BTW, he should have played Lestat in Interview with a Vampire, and Cruse got it cos he was more box office I suppose. I think it was a GREAT shame, Sands would have been a BRILLIANT Lestat. My opinion!

  • Despite the changes to the plot; I think this adaptation is the most moving. Making Erik's love for Chritine platonic (which I think this is) makes him sympathetic. This love is about his mother more than anything; his sexuality is therefore neutralised (to an extent) and he is a sad figure rather than a frightening one.

  • I hate Christine cuz she was silly, naive, thoughtless! But I like Teri's acting, so convincing! Christine in 1990 supposed to be innocent and I guess nobody could show this innocence better than Teri. Not like Emmy who is pretty but emotionless, and who supposed to be sexy but failed. The way she keep her mouth open irritate me!!

  • I don't see where you're getting "thoughtless"., if you meant for this version. She's the only Christine I can think of that has been genuinely guilty about leaving Erik and actually does something to say "hey, I care about you even though I can't be the girl you want me to be".

  • @neoguyneo123 I like Gerry, but certainly Charles Dance is the best Phantom ever! The ideal man for me since I watched this version (19 years passed!). He didnt try to be hot but he was!!

  • Yes, Christine, go wandering through the crazy masked man's house.... :D

Also: The gun powder barrels! YES! Something realistic! I like this version. It fits the original book. Kind of. (full mask....)

  • It looks horrifying!

But I don't know why we don't see his face in this :(

  • 6:20

    PWND.

  • I like how he dumped rats on her. But it seemed out of character for him.

  • Hey that's Ben Stiller's girlfriend off Meet The Parents/ Fockers! She's a great Christine :D

  • CARLOTTA FINALLY CRACKED!!!!

  • Haha That was funny he put rats all over that bitch! Lol.

  • i like this new crazy Carlotta! :)

  • I don't understand why there is a scary face hanging next to Christine's portrait.:S

  • I like Erik in this version :D But he is not as hot as Geared Butler, in the newest version

  • He is just as hot :D

  • I'd give anything for a guy to be that protective of me!

    The doll's head? How.....strange.

    Lol. Carlotta needs her medicine......

  • Ah, Carlotta's face at 6:10 is priceless! Haha!

I love this version, in all of it's uniqueness.

  • Okay, the sound of the baby crying and the head hanging over the mother's portrait is like something out of a horror movie... XD

  • He's so creepy with the "rats for a rat" thing, but I guess everyone has a little crazy inside them.

  • Creepy bird, dark basement, dude dangling from ceiling...

    Yeah, it's a trap. Always a trap...

  • that doll is gonna force me to sleep with the light on... it's cool, but really freaky x|

  • lol the only thing i have to say is that the outer masks that Erik wears look so silly. :P

  • that baby thing was sceary

lol i love it when carlotta gose crazy

this is such a great film

  • ooh, im scared...whos that creepy hanging baby doll near the women portrait?*gasp*

  • HA HA HA HA HA POUR THE RATS

  • What's up with Carlotta? She just falls over and is like: "Eh" when he pours the rats on her. I'd be like: "AWESOME!" Okay, maybe not really with the plague and everything but I certainly wouldn't just lay there.

  • I think it's because she fainted?

  • its funny the phantom is talking about christine being betrayed, when its her who betrays him... :/

  • Okeeeey.... that little doll scares me! O-o"

Haha go Erik, scare Carlotta! MUHAHA

"And I wont send an angel to hell!" That was soooo cute! :D

  • Now I understnad the doll-thing!!!

Erik is, ofcurse depressed over his face and his mothers death (who loved his face). So he kind of made himself as a doll and hang it at his mothers picture as a love signe that he loves her to...

Well or something like that! 8P

I think it give us a clue of how he may look like! :D

  • His mother never loved him. She forced him to wear a mask. She never even kissed him once in his life. That is a picture of Christine.... But I can't seem to understand the meaning of the doll's head except that it is an altar....

  • In this version she love him and the big painting on "Christine" turned out to bee Eriks mother, so the small painting must be the same.

  • Actually, that's not true. Erik's mother loved him with all her heart. She was the only one who really loved him despite his face. But she died. Obviously :) But she didn't hate him. That's just in the movies/plays/other things. But it's never said in the book I think... I need to re-read it... :)

  • And the comment was for those who believe that poor Erik's dear mum never loved him :'( Poor Erik

  • Erik's mother in the original novel did hate him. She never let him kiss her and forced him to wear a mask. It's only in this version she loved him.

  • I don't know. I think she did but then she didn't, she never even kissed her child! She forced him to wear a mask no for his or anyone else's sake but mostly for her own. If she really love him she would accept his appearance and accept him as her own child. I don't rememeber the book all to well, I read it years ago but still not that strong.

  • In the book, Eriks mother did hate him, but in this version, Eriks mother did love him. Kopit's version is the closest version to the book, yet they make HUGE mistakes, such as the Mother/Son relationship and a few more... like not having Raoul when it's Raoul who loves Christine and not *ahem* is older brother.

  • The mother in this version did love him...

  • @TheWanderingchild I have to agree, but I think the doll head next to the picture represents how Erik's face might actually look.

  • @Rurushufan2010 Yes, absolutely. :)

  • not understanding the doll thing...what the hell?

  • somebody's in trouble

  • carlotta is gone crazy !!! XD

  • Yeah, exactly. XD

  • Uh-oh, Carlotta... the Phantom knows... RATS FOR A RAT!!!

That is a creepy baby doll...

I am almost sorry for lil' Carly now...

  • lmao she went insane

  • im i the only person who thought the doll thing was sooo creepy -.-

  • Not at all... *Shudders*

  • now, whenever some one pisses me off I'll just imagine dumping a box of rats on them lol

  • what's that sound anyway while Christine's in the lair? It can't be a baby, it's a doll! x_X

  • Loopy loo, Carlotta stew. I think the doll's head is some sort of a clue.

  • lol not in this version XD

  • Actually I think it's supposed to represent the phantom.. How he sees himself. The head has pretty much been mutilated, and is hanging upside down next to the picture of his mother. So I think that's him (when he was little, anyway). Just a thought ;).

  • Wow...His hands are sly as a fox's....

  • =) super film=)

  • "RATS, BITCH!"

  • Lmfao.

  • What a fitting punishment for a rat. Rats on top of a rat.

  • Wow, Carlotta's gone insane.
