Ukraine and Russia are two different countries. Yes everyone knows that. Ukrainian and Russian sound very similar but they are different languages. And Ukrainian and Russian people usually know how to speak both languages because they are similar and or just sound similar. I'm Ukrainian and Russian and yeah I know hot to speak both but not everyone does. So just keep that in mind.

They may be in the same general area, but that would be like comparing China to Japan, sure both are Asian, but with different customs. I hope in the future you will look past your narrow-mindedness and realize there is more to a culture than what meets the eye.

In America, we nothing this good as we got hip hop/wrap crap in USA. There is so much great music in other countries, much better than the pop music in America. Ukrainian is a Related mostly to Polish and Russian. All others such as Bulgarian/Romanian it only shares a few words. How i know this personally? I visited a polish woman and i never heard polish before and she does not know English/Ukrainian. I understood 50% of the conversation. Yes Same as Russian but i knew a little from family that only speaks Russian(some people from Russia through marriage).

No really dude. It's closer to Russian cause they share a lot of words. Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Russian are all from the same family, but Bulgarian leaves out a few of the letters from the Cyrillic alphabet, so they don't use all the same sounds. Likewise, Ukrainian has a few different characters that Russian doesn't have, but the sounds they make are all pretty much the same.

They're all very similar though, like French, Spanish and Italian.

Yep, whoever says Ukrainian is same is Russian, is ignorant or just not informed, even some Ukrainians don't respect their language enough to say "yes it is a language on its own", must be due to the brainwashing of the Soviet Union, which had it's good and bad points, but back to languages. To say Ukr is same as Rus is like saying that an Italian language is same as Spanish or Portuguese. Respect for all of us, people! Ukrainians, Russians, every nation in this world share one home, Earth.

I mean I could not make the difference betwen ukrainian and russian when I hear those languages as I cannot make the difference between mendarin and cantoneese .... I think people know it's 2 different language... but when you have absolutly no slavic notions it's hard to hear the difference.. whatever it sounds great :)

@pauls008 As much as I agree with you, Ukraine did get some influence from Russian. Italian is the same way with Spanish actually. They are different languages, but they have similar words and spelling of things. I do believe that Ukraine is different as Russian though.
