During the campaign between Nixon and JFK, JFK showed public support for King after he was arrested in Georgia. Then of course in '64, Goldwater ran and he didn't support the Civil Rights Act, so I doubt King supported him.
We have no proof he was a registered Democrat either, but considering conservatives supported Vietnam (King did not) and MLK supported social justice...

The downside to leaving the problem solving up to the regulators is than when we get another Bush clone in office, he'll stack the regulatory agencies with incompetent people or people with massive conflicts of interests and then they'll gut the regulation putting us back to square one, it'd better if they actually legislated the regulation, but of course since the banks run congress I guess that wasn't a possibility.
