I CALL HIM BABY B.B.HENDRIX BUCHANNON STEVIE , ETC, AL. HE IS OUTSTANDING ! WHEN ALL THE GREATS ARE GONE . HE WILL BE THE MAN . TILL THEN HE WILL BE ALRIGHT .
Pretty nice, but not really blues. I can hear the blues influence but I also hear the rock and funk influence. So it's not rlly blues. Awesome playing though, no doubt about that (y)
@abuseforapie So wait a minute(?) ...don't you know there are different styles within Blues? What was Jimi Hendrix playing when he was alive? If you'd asked him, like my friends & myself did in 1967, he would've said "BLUES". Where did Rock & Funk as well as every Western genre of music originate from?
@abuseforapie I just asked you a few questions on your "healthy criticism"(which you haven't explained) without actually offending anyone or calling YOU a "jerk off"..which is more than can be said about your response. If anyone needs to relax it's you i think.
I really don't know what Jimi hendrix and your friends interview with him having to do with my criticism of Kirk Fletcher. And when I mean Blues, I mean the real Blues like Howlin' Wolf or Otis Rush. This is more of Blues rock with a touch of jazz in it. So I don't think it would be quite right to call it 'Blues' but rather, a properly fitting name like 'Blues rock'.
@abuseforapie Otis Rush, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters did albums that were either soul/pop or psychedelic (check "Electric Mud" by Waters). So what, pray tell me , is REAL Blues. I'm not an authority but you obviously are.
I'm not angered in the least nor need to relax. I find your observation hilarious because most on here state how close Kirk is to Albert King on this video...and Albert played BLUES, not jazz nor Blues-Rock. Perhaps you should get in contact with Kirk (on "myspace") and tell him he doesn't play the REAL Blues?
@abuseforapie The reason i quoted Jimi was because he was criticised for not playing real black Blues...but, to me, all Western music comes from the Blues...even JS Bach used Blues phrases .
Quite right! No arguments in the lest there. All western music has originated from the blues. But I am still not convinced this is remotely close to that.
Just incredible! That solo just builds, builds and builds! He channels Albert King like no one I've ever heard... of course, making it his own with his own voice! What tone!
Kirk's got a new CD coming out soon (if not already) Click onto his "myspace" blog and hear some of the tracks. You won't believe your ears. He gets better & better.
I can't work out why you're getting the 'thumbs down. I've removed some of them. Tom Anderson actually is a friend of Kirk's and is on his myspace blog.
Can't seem to leave this video alone...wherever i go i keep coming back to this one. I actually wrote personally to Kirk commenting about this clip. He's really such a genuine guy. No pretense or ego. He's on "myspace". Thanks kevyp..can't thank you enough.
And that is just his posture to begin with, The way he just stands there and plays from his heart & soul. Just like Freddie did! And his phrasing is on par with both Freddie and Albert. I believe!
comeoninmykitchen: you are so right -- i've also found Kirk's style is a mixture of nearly everyone.(even country players) Sometimes his licks remind me of Larry Carlton especially when he handles a minor key Blues.(very jazzy) Larry's son, Travis, plays bass in Kirk's band now. Kirk's new CD is called "My Turn" If you go over to "myspace" and type "Kirk Fletcher Band" there are 5 trax from his new CD. Does Hendrix's "Catfish Blues" & Jimmy Reeds "Found Love". Best Wishes!
Hey, taildragger51....I see what you mean about sounding like Larry Carlton, and wow, this guy is new to me....he's amazing...thank you so much for sending this to me !.....Fabulous, indeed !...PeaceLoveBlues....spread the news !
@Juliasblues Kirk's on 'myspace' and "facebook" as well and always replies to any messages. He's a really interesting guy to talk to. I think Larry Carlton's son , Travis , plays in Kirk's band so the connection is real.
Anyone who loves Blues guitar should purchase Kirk's "Shades Of Blue" CD. I can't stop playing it! Kim Wilson is pure magic & Kirk keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire CD.(this is rare) He's a very inventive "chameleon" guitarist who plays with the imagination of a jazz player like Kenny Burrell then switches to Cornell Dupree mode. The Hollywood Fats influence is strong in Kirk but he takes Blues guitar alot further than anyone around.
Agree with these comments. Shades of Blue is an awesome CD. And what POWER! I can hear Albert, brought into this century on this song. Check out his CD's. This is a major new talent folks. There is hope for the blues!
jonathan1stewart; Yes..that's exactly what i think. I still have Kirk's debut CD that was issued in 1997 in the UK called "I'm Here & I'm Gone".(on the JSP label). It was more of a big band effort with horns but it has a solo like this on it called "Mr. Mann" (dedicated to Hollywood Fats). "Shades Of Blue" is definitely his best CD to date. Hopefully he won't change his style of playing. Today he's the BOSS.
jonathan1stewart: You are so right. Moreover there's hope for young BLACK Blues artists. This is such a RARE thing these days..infact Robert Cray was probably the most recent black guy and he goes back about 25 yrs. Just love the way Kirk just stands still, fully grounded and deeply intense. This guy plays from the heart.
I find it hard to comprehend why people spend millions on rap music when there are REAL talented young black guys like Kirk Eli Fletcher who can rip your heart out. This guy is the real deal.
mtskier05; Thank you! Wow, somebody that actually agrees with me! I usually get a torrent of abuse. Seriously though, this has to be one of the finest blues guitar clips on this site. This rates alongside anything done by Albert King.
Yes, it's a perfect solo..infact it has to be one of the best solos i've ever heard.(since 1966 i've heard alot) Furthermore like Mick Taylor, Kirk isn't a "poser'..no grimacing or flashy display..just PURE soul straight from the heart and a menacing left hand vibrato attack! Albert King must be smiling somewhere. Nearly 5 mins of absolute magic! Before i forget..Thank you 'kevyp'..you are a genius for giving us this film!
ronni2297: Actually he's the best i've heard for decades. His imagination and choice of raw tone (which he changes constantly to keep it fresh)i haven't heard since Magic Sam or Johnny Guitar Watson. I normally say the best music was done years ago. I'm totally wrong when it comes to Kirk.
Fabulous Kirk Fletcher !!!!
