Your springs are really loose and your footboard height seems fairly low. Would you say this is more beneficial? I think my footboard height is def too high to do this fast :s
@lalamike25 You don't actually hit with your heel when you do a heel-toe it's really only there for consistency and just a little power on the first stroke
@pray4plagues100 heel-toe is you catch the pedal hit with your toe after a hit with the heel. You bounce off the ball of your toe and hit with your heel. It kind of seems like a combo of heel-up and heel-down but I'm just an amateur drummer looking at videos for help but that's what (and correct me if I'm wrong) it is
i can't do this technique Mr Spikey because when i play drum ,i don't put my feet on shoes ... so if i do this technique then my toe would hit the shark tail :(
my friend is sick he can play double bass with a regular pedal with one mallet lol. i tried to copy he but i couldnt im gonna tell him to make a video
Whenever I try to do this, my shoe grips too much to the pedal. Is this because I'm putting too much pressure on, or because I have super grippy shoes? lol. Should I try it in socks?
How tight are you guys putting your springs? I have a DW 7000 and I put it on the max difficulty for strength training. Does anyone find it harder like that?
Hey man. I just stared learning this, but im practicing it slower and my foot seems to hit the middle, then rise a bit and catch the top for the second. So what I wanna know is, am i practicing this wrong or will what im doing eventually turn into a slide when I get more comfortable with it and faster
seriously, not only does his skill as a drummer blow my mind, but i could NEVER imagine him being anything less than a great person/gentleman, i really hope he has a good life, good people deserve it.
Do you think you could use slide technique for a fast double bass? One foot on the right pedal, the other on the left, using slide technique going R R L L etc.
Hi, i am currently using this technique, but funny this, i find it hard when i play with shoes because of the rubber soles, i find the grippy texture doesn't let me slide well. I have to play in socks to slide up and down the pedal cleanly. What do you suggest?
this is essentially like a gravity roll for double bass, only in this case the gravity is the spring energy from the pedal. when i do fast bass rolls i use my big toe idk why
- i can do it !! but .. the thing is ! i dn't know how to control it ... can u make a video of how to control ur foot .. if u know exactly wat i mean .
- my slide techniwue won't work .. i've been working on it for the past 3 months .. and still won't work ... well ... it's doing double strokes but not like u ...
hey man im trying to learn this and i cant get it down. do i need more tension on the spring of the pedel or what? im having a hard time catching it the second time.
Amazing. A technique used by Chris Adler none the less. The triplets are on Ruiner from Burn the Priest. Thanks for making me think i can pick up my drums and play properly!
I'm a total Heel-up player, but I must disagree that playing heels up allows you to play faster. You use your ankles, and smaller muscles as you go faster and faster. Most heel down players are able to go faster with more control easier than heel up, but they don't get power at all (which is why I don't really respect the hell out of them)
@keres993 Never seen anyone playing heel down past 220 or so. With heel up, some guys can hit 300. Playing heels up definitely allows you to play faster, because it DOESN'T isolate the motion to your ankles. You need to use leg and ankle motion to achieve the highest possible speeds, in a manner very similar to moeller. Its the exact same concept, really.
@keres993 I can play heel down at around 210, thats not really that fast. There are lots of guys out there that can play 260+ heel up, but none that I know of heel down.
any body who is a relatively good drummer should be able to do two kicks at virtually any speed like this. I can technically do a one handed drum roll at 500 bpm if I'm only doing two hits using a double stroke. What I'm saying is this is only technically double bass and in my opinion not amazing, but what a drummer should be able to do. No drummer should need to use heel toe to do this.

been trying to practice this for a while and I have a question hopefully somebody could answer.
when you slide up to "catch" it, do you use your hamstring or do you kind of propel your foot forward from the ball of your foot?
so I guess in other words, do you move your whole leg to slide up or just the ball of the foot?
thanks!
