Please sharpen that knife. Your slaughtering knife should be reserved only for slaughtering and kept as sharp as a razor. The objective is to make the slaughter as quick and painless as possible. Actually I'd recommend a brain shot with a .22, or smashing in the top of the skull with a heavy hammer. These result in instant, painless death if done right.
