i hate that battles are bad as well. we were going to get awesome little duels in battles but it looks so unrealistic they just make a line and have the front 20 guys fight their front 20 guys and these 20 guys are always like statues fixed with their swords out looking around for opponents like idiots, battles are boring and theres no excitement like other tws. also no one feels anything towards japanese like we did in mtw and rome so we needed a better game to compensate and we didnt get that.

i played shogun and now i cant play it again because its exactly the same and its no fun.. battles look nice but are boring, castles only have 1 map so where ever you are attacking a castle its the same layout and terrain and the load times are insane takes about 30-50 secs to load a fight where as m2tw takes 5-6 secs. i like the idea of the nobles, there should also be specific buildings that you build for the nobles to keep them happy and get delicacies for them as trade resources(ex.marzipan)

Man you have a good idea.The only thing I would add to your plan would be the campaigns.They should have the grand campaign but also some historical campaign like ceaser in gaul or some others and these campaigns to be completely historically accurate like the AI would move to a town where the unit they are representing would of gone and that there would be a choice to make the the campaign real-time or turn-based.And the ability to recruit mercenaries or for the romans auxiliaries

it'd be pretty cool, if you could appoint a general to be a governor of a place, like gail of spain for example. they would handle the taxes and recruitment (if you wanted) for that region. Also, units would be named after their region. like the 3rd hispanic archers. and if they are rebellious, they could rebel and take the region they control with them. and then they could be your advisers.

it's nice to see someone is as obsessed with rome as i am. i love all your infrastructure ideas. whether going this in-depth is even possible in a game, i have no idea. In addition to your ideas, though, what i really want to see is roman politics. As much as i love rome TW, creative assembly's representation of the senate is laughable. Roman politics was like mafia families all vying for power; way more in-depth than 5 spots that give your generals a slight boost. TW can do much better =P

i have an idea for activision.Rome TW has 2 parallel games inside the main game: Campaign Map and Battle Map.My idea is to combine those 2 into one.Looking from above you can see the whole region but when you zoom in you would get to be on the street level and actually be able to take control over ur units . By doing this you would get a free world TW game with endless possibilities Build settlements on your own view Hire Architects ,Craftsmen,Merchants,INFRASTUC­TURE-ART(real ambushes-raids.

@lokna Dude rome total war was made 6 years ago. They have improved a lot since. their new games are accurate and AD14-500AD isnt what people want. In my opinion that time in history is one of the most boring ones. They also made 2 Empire total war, 2 Medieval and now a second shogun. This translate people liking there remakes of games.

I honestly am pretty ticked that they changed all the 'esthetically pleasing' kind of things that were present in Medieval2. like construction scrolls/queues and character hiring/usage. It moves at a considerably slower pace as well. I guess it's personal preference, but If they make a rome 2 total war (which would be the sensible next step in the series) then I would prefer they switch to a more Medieval2 campaign/battle feel. With elements like ship combat and stuff you mention in this video

You use population from the city you make your soldiers in RTW. Say if you make an Urban cohort (82 men) the population in that city drops by 82.

mm the last 1 with the borders is way to easy to "miss use" because if start in a corner (like Russia in M2TW) then its just about taking a huge circle of land and then all the counties inside that circle would be yours... hope you see what I mean? :)

these are good ideas but i dont want it to be very difficult with micromanagement... Total War should be based in action and realism i just want to see more at that part, new naval battles, tactics... new fight animations(also faster melee), unique way of gameplay for every faction (imagine that in a next gen game).... that's just my opinion

Sounds like you need to play Europa Universalis. If you havent already. I personally like it more than RTW. Waaay more in-depth. Just make sure you get the VV with EU 2.

I love the ideea about a general starting his own faction and rebel.

The ideea about being able to build up own strategies during a siege is also really cool, i really missed that.

But again, I have to say this concentration on micro-management would be too much to handle in such a large-scale game, there should be another game focusing on only one or very few countries that could handle this.

Other than that, good ideeas, if u ever become a game developer and make it real, let me know ;)

I wish I could put links on here. Technically pikeman only used pikes in battle. There was a technique used when pikeman were fighting against other pikeman where they would lock their shafts with the opponent in battle, making them vulnerable to the swordsman and other infantry. Rarely did they carry a sword or a secondary weapon.

whats the point? Just wait for the rome super mod for Medieval 2 total war. Creative assembly  is too occupied on Empire total war and w/e expansion packs are to come. I hope after that, they move into a ww1-ww2 type of total war game. All these ideas your stating have been used in other mods for medieval 2 total war. Look at Stainless steel 6.0-1 and the new super mods Dominion of the sword and Basilia total war.

The next game they are working on now is Empire Total war, maybe after they have made that one, they will start working on a new rome or sumthing, but i think they will first release a expansion to empire before they make a whole new game, but it will look great on the engine from Empire;) Ciao
