Part 2: So, for those who are curious, the jumps, one foot spins, fast footwork (close up of feet) are all a stunt double. It's Roman when he first steps onto the ice, his mohawk (edge change) is very stiff, forward or backward crossovers (he needs to check shoulders and finish the stroke), slower 2 foot spins, hand expressions, bower (long open glide on 2 feet), knee slides. That's all Roman.

Part 1: I just love Roman. It's difficult being an ice skater because I can see when it's really him and when it's a stunt double. Also, little things about how Roman moves on the ice show that he's not really a skater. But I give him a lot of credit and they've obviously put him through a lot of training. He's very expressive and his bower is damn good! That stuff's not easy! But his stroking (i.e. forward and backward skating) and edge changes need work. See part 2.

Shelly, this is a gorgeous video. I love to see clips of Roman skating. One question-in real life, how good is Dennis on the ice??? I know the actress that plays Diana has the background in it, but what about Dennis? Obviously, he needs to be fairly good, but has it ever been stated how he preps for his skating scenes?

Well I think he's better than he used to be when the show first started. ;) From what I understand, Dennis didn't have any experience in figure skating when he was hired to play Roman. You can tell he still does some of the skating, but there is actually a double for the more complicated maneuvers.

OMG I love this so much, Shelly! I love how you put the skating footage together, and the memories of Deniz permeating even the one thing that used to be Roman's alone... so painful, and so gorgeous! The contrasts (like with the fall and the memory of Deniz catching him) are so poignant. Good lord. I'm all wibbly now. I LOVE IT.
