I think it went something like this: All these scientists (ex. Einstein) had been taken out of time and plugged into the brain to make calculations needed to create a cataclysm, but none of them knew Time like the Doctor, so once he was wired in he thought nothing but gibberish which screwed everything up, which forced the Rani to release him since he was being purposely useless. Of course it's been 20+ years since I've seen this one so I could be wrong...

All the orchestra hits made it sound like Weakest Link. That ONE clip of Doctor Who encapsulated all that was bad with the series--especially at that point. Sometimes shows need to go away for awhile...

Yeah, the show was coming off several years of bad storytelling at that point, plus the head of the BBC at the time absolutely HATED the show. The later McCoy episodes started to find their feet and improve, but the plug had been pulled.

I do think the several years off the tube were good for it.
