  • So what about the people surfing facebook or youtube or some other websites during the class? Who knows they could be playing flash games too !

  • this isnt a good idea, this is a great idea!

  • I will use social media for an Adult online Bible Study. Thanks for sharing.

  • Ayee! that first girl who talked is one of my assistant coaches (:

  • nice.. good idea... simply awesome!

  • At Brooklyn Center high school in MN my Tech8 class is starting using social networking. I'm in charge of some of the Social Networking (The Twitter)

    Hope it works too..

  • Bad idea. One hundred and forty character does NOT allow analysis and discussion. If you want to engage them, pushing them onto limited, superficial media is pretty self-defeating. I really have to ask where all the personal interaction is in all of this. Does this not undermine class bonding and the establishment of face-to-face interactions with the lecturer and other students? Does this not depersonalise the class experience and trivialise the experience of learning and analysis?

  • I lurned awll I need to no in a book, y0u won't lurn et all if yous been surfing the niternet all klass, fuk compters in schole, I hate computrs.

my teechur oulda fryd that tekkie bich, compters to imform the yiuth of amrica? no its tragic, scholehouse rok wuz how we taut ourself,

  • Umm...this is all well and fine, but students (especially HS students) need to learn to communicate effectively without the use of technology. They need to be able to communicate face-to-face, written - not typed, as well as whatever communication they use on the computers. Don't get me wrong, I do understand the concept, I just don't think that it gives students the right message or motivation for verbal communication.

  • our class uses mac books also

  • what the hell!! they get macbooks and my skewl gets fucking acer notebooks? gay

  • @derekbloxom this is not a gay-straight issue. your ignorance is showing.

  • I would love that at my school.

  • AND U WONDER WHY KIDS BECOME MISSING

  • You should try to get on Twitter or Facebook in our school.. It's all blocked and you get detention.. :(

  • what the hell is a fucken mexican doing in minneapolis?

  • @jimmyjohnson691 dude there is alot here lol, we got the best wellfare, so we got walks of all shitholes of the planet

  • That all sounds fine, but HOW is it being used? All I am seeing is how great the world is becuase Haug is using Twitter and Facebook in class, but I am not seeing how she is using it in class.

  • this seems a great idea, our english teaher was strugling to get control of the class because he's new,,, because he's a media teacher aswell, he know teens love technology, so he gt his laptop and used the cam on it and projected it on the smart board, it was great fun.... (UK)

  • Where can we find out more about how the curriculum or learning outcomes are being expressed via twitter and Facebook activities? What are the kinds of activities which are being used? But, overall, great approach!

  • If you're a teacher, you could try contacting Cynthia Lewis (the researcher in the video).

  • subcribe to me everyone who sees this and dont spam this either!

  • woow my former school is getting help by my current school. good stuff

  • awesome twitter in the classroom man thanks for this video i really love it and if u have a twitter account follow me on twitter and i will follow u back my name on twitter is dante9359

  • This sounds really exciting. Student engagement with course material is vital to learning. How many classes are using this approach now? How are the students doing in their classes that do not use twitter? What are the challenges in using this kind of approach? "Doc A"

  • Hmmm, no wonder incoming college freshman can't read.

Seriously; there was a time (10 years ago) when the better mathematics students had no trouble reading and understanding an applications problem. Now, very few of them can, including those who can actually do the mathematics.

  • Twitter and Mac Books are all well and good, but it's what we LEARN that is important. We are learning about all kinds of technology as well as all the other stuff that everyone else thinks is so cool. We are a school, a giant pool of information, that works together to create awesome stuff.

  • Great Project Minneapolis Students, Well done!

I'm doing really similar things (Podcasting for oral fluency, social science videos for motivation and expressing our thoughts, Twitter for E-Twinning etc.)

It too has proved to be really popular. with my students. Feel free to drop by our wiki sometime to check out what we're up to.

    Best of Luck,

    Mr S. Dickens.

  • wow that is so cool. i wish we have that in our education system here in Manila..

  • We're using Twitter @gradeguru to provide notes for college students.

  • Mother Nature's falling down, falling down...

  • Taking education to "where kids live" is a great idea, and seems to make so much sense. Wonder why more teachers haven't gotten on the bandwagon?!

  • That is awesome....Engagement is happening...

    how is the achievement???

how are their API and APY scores???

no statistics were given on that....hmmmmm????

  • IntelligentCreature: since when has the students learning anything counted?

  • thats awesome !

    so much macbooks !!!

  • so many macbooks

  • Haha, that's exactly what i thought ... look at all those macbooks! :)

  • Brilliant! Smart teacher.

  • I saw some students using Edmodo as well, which is another great tool for classroom use.

  • Awesome stuff. Don't forget EDMODO at 0:37 and 1:53, another great web application for the classroom!

  • awesome... I like the laptop bank in the classroom... want to know more! It's about time that teachers stopped living in the seventies and joined the digital information age. Get the kids skilled in the skills they need. typing... information technology... etc
