Interesting, I wonder if a mourning dove's feathers are similarly structured--they make a less crisp fluttering sound as they take off. Fantastic footage! I've only seen American Woodcocks flying overhead once before in the Michigan LeFurge woods preserve early one morning.

Haven't come across the American Woodcock in our area yet.....we're only 2 hrs. east of Ithaca. Now I'lll know what to look for if I hear that sound. Thanks for sharing this great video.
